...and another load of early 90's goodies exit in this late-90's weighted spree - I know there were twice as many chart-toppers in the latter half, but Chesney, Ace Of Base are goodies and especially Freddie and Take That were top-50 worthy. East 17 I OD'd on years ago, I'd be quite happy to get through a Christmas without hearing it (as if!) and hear some of their more typical hits instead that never get played. The Tamperer is great fun, love it - though it's not nearly as perfect as the Jacksons Can You Feel It. Wannabe not in the 50? I mean, really? It's iconic and a key pop track of the decade globally. OK I didn't vote for it either, though

Well, with that peek at the remaining 50 I'm going to go "eh?" :o Blue? 9PM? Sunscreen? Celine? Widow? 3 Lions?

This one did very well! Lifted from one of his films and combined with a cover of the Rozalla hit.

Could anything stop the Spice Girls making No 1? Not until this track it seemed, and a million seller too. 12 voters is a new record too.

Ooh a triple whammy of songs I pointed! 'Everybody’s Free (To Wear Sunscreen)' definitely one I expected to get double figure or nothing points! What an idiosyncratic #1.

'Say You'll Be There' is my third favourite of the Spice #1s (after 'Viva Forever' and 'Spice Up Your Life' that I mentioned earlier) - one of their best videos too.

'It's Like That' is a fab hip-hop/dance fusion, I quite like 'Stop' but I enjoy this more so I don't mind that it won that chart battle!

I’m not a Spice Girls fan so had to listen to ‘Say You’ll Be There’ to remember how it went 😬.

No other huge songs I love a lot but the Run DMC song is iconic so not sure why I didn’t vote for it!

Say You'll Be There is my favourite Spice Girls record by a small margin, great pop song and fantastic classic 90s video.
It's Like That is amazing. Good to know they stopped Spice Girls at the time :P Run DMC got another top 10 hit in the 80s called 'Walk This Way'. Another fantastic song. :D
actually 3 decent but not great songs none of which should have been top 50 here :D,

Say You’ll Be There is my second favourite Spice song after one that’s to come - I think it really proved that they weren’t a novelty act.

The other two aren’t my cup of tea but I respect their cultural impact.

Say You'll Be There is great pop, Sunscreen is touching in a weird way but it's not the sort of track you can play over and over unless you are trying to clear a dancefloor in a club to close the doors and encourage everyone to go home  It did top my personal charts at the time though.... It's Like That is banging, good and I can see why it's top 50 even if I prefer Spice Girls of the 3 these days.

Maybe the recent Euro success helped here but it seems that those that like it REALLY like it!

Who would ever have thought Tori Amos would get a No 1? Well more to do with Armand Van Helden but she’ll take it.

..Ready for it’s 30 pointer takes a bow here but it beats almost all the other boyband chart toppers of the decade.

I do wonder how much the timing affected the positions of the football songs. Voting a few weeks earlier I'd have probably had them #1 and #3 rather than #2 and #5, but would probably have been a few places lower than that if run at the beginning of the year.

Three Lions was the first song I bought as a cassette single so I do have a fondness for it but not quite enough to score it.

Professional Widow is great and a one-off. Fun fact - it was only the 3rd entirely self penned female Number 1 after Wuthering Heights and Move Closer. Unfortunately I’ve never quite been able to shake hearing the lyric as “he’s got a big d*ck” after someone at school said he was convinced it was that.

I Want It That Way came really close to my votes - it’s very of its time but what a tune.

Wait! So I DIDN'T vote for Tori?

I'm not a huge fan of the song in itself but I still get a buzz from hearing it and love that it was a hit.
