I was reading the other day this Billboard book on US #1 songs and they explained that before sending it to Christina Aguilera

they had pitched the song first to Paula Abdul

Imagine if Paula Abdul had released it, could easily had been her "resurrection" song and re-start he career

Almost definitely for the same album that she wrote "Spinning Around" for.

^that's true forgot about that, what a comeback could have been with Spinning Around/Genie in a Bottle...

too bad it never happened, her musical career lasted too little

Those 3 are all good records - albeit not my fave tracks by any of the 3 artists involved. To The End, Deadringer For Love, Dirrrty being the top tracks - granted none of them topped the charts and 2 of them are wrong decade :D I'm not at all still bitter that most fail to see the beauty in To The End.... :P

Freddie’s death spurred this to the top along with some help from “Bohemian Rhapsody”- this is not only Buzzjack’s favourite Queen chart topper of the 90s but the third favourite No 1 from 1991.

More Norman Cook here with his only solo chart topper

2 losses for me there, both from the rather small pool of remaining early 90s songs.

Dub Be Good To Me is actually one I got properly hooked on with the TOTP repeats.

TATDOOL is another childhood memory - my mum had the cassette single with the black sleeve and I remember being fascinated and listening to both tracks over and over again.

Praise You is one I’ve never really got actually - find it a bit dull.

I have to say - I'm really pleased that the great people of Buzzjack have favoured that set of 40 songs.

I expect to see the Manics soon enough.

Continue to be excited to be reminded of what I actually gave my top marks to because I genuinely can't remember

double Norman Cook elimination!

Praise you was quite an unexpected #1, It's good but much preferred Rockafeller Skank or Right here right now

‘Praise You’ is an amazing pop song for me!

Also That Queen song is so emotional with the video and all!

Of course you never know what might have happened if you separate the hit song from the artist i.e. would Spinning Around have been a #1 hit if it weren't for Kylie's gold hotpants but yeah there's definitely an alternate reality somewhere where Paula Abdul had a great second wind to her career after releasing those two as singles!
