I like to think that the Essential boxset - shit as it is - is a sign of Universal's willingness to revisit the Sugababes catalogue. They'd be plain stupid not to release vinyls of the golden years. Additional material would be absolutely unreal, but I'm not sure if that's been the case with other Universal/Island reissues?

I’m not sure what Island have done but maybe the girls will be more involved, especially if they’re releasing new music and then maybe we will get archive material

But I guess it’s harder for them to do archive stuff without Heidi. Unless they just drop and run and rely on 1.0 not ignoring it

Universal must be testing the water, maybe we need to buy this collection to show some demand.

Do we even care?

Might get it in the full numbers later but anything would be a huge success for this

I'm really curious to know, surely it will perform similar to S Club 7's release.
That’s worse than I’d anticipated for it! That could be about 600-ish sales so far.

What did you expect? It's a budget compilation that's been put out due to One Touch being re-released.

A very similar S Club compilation reached the top 40 with the same level of promotion and exposure (ie. none) so top 40 would've been a reasonable expectation for this I think.

I'm actually very happy to seems to be bombing, such a cheap and pointless release. Especially when she much thought and effort was put into One Touch, by the girls themselves, and now some cheap management decision to bank on that.

This! Essential S Club 7 started out at midweek #25 and almost 1k sales… and that album really came out nowhere, without any notable hype. Even if Essential Sugababes technically has nothing to do with Sugababes 1.0’s comeback and their reissue, it’s clear by the timing of it that it was meant to piggyback onto that. So I’m surprised it’s doing quite a bit worse than the S Club album.

Part of me wants it to bomb because its a cheap cash in attempt. Part of me wants it to do well to prove to Island there is value in the catalogue so I can get a vinyl of Three.

I think we were worried about this canibalising sales of OT but maybe its the other way round. In that OT is getting the more prominent spots

Well this is bombing a bit, it's #68 in today's update. 809 CD sales. I genuinely thought there'd be more interest!
I'm kind of happy that it's not doing well because it's such a trash release, on the other hand Sugababes having two top 40 entries would've been nice.
I thought for a second this was OT and I was like WTF!!!

Im fine with this bombing tbh

omg same that made me panic bad

I'd rather it missed top 100 and then there's less of a trace of it.

Midweek #84 on Thursday, total is 1,044 copies so far (up 112 copies on the previous day). I'm not sure whether it'll be able to stay Top 100 on Friday, once all the streaming of other albums around them is accounted for! Seems to be on course for 1,200-ish copies.
