figured we needed a (new - rip 'What are you playing?') general recommendations thread as keeping the forum running via the vagaries of release dates doesn't work because it's far too expensive to keep up with games that were released five seconds ago, nor is that normally the best assessment of a games' quality:

focus IMO should be on indie games that aren't already attached to a big franchise name, so no Pokemon, FIFA etc. but perhaps less mainstream franchises are fine x

going to start with SUPERHOT as I've just started playing it after seeing a vtuber (the clock vtuber I was on about in the shoutbox x) play it yesterday - good shooter as time slows to a crawl when you're standing still, allowing it to become more of a puzzle - feels like I'll finish this really fast.

and Frostpunk that I've also installed because I know I'll like it and managing society in a freezing wasteland sounds like the best time ever.

I Need peeps to play Apex with me, that is all I have to say. If you like battle royales but with strategy or abilities like overwatch then Apex Legends is for you.

I shouldn't be interested in Apex but the force of nature that is Kureiji Ollie (scrolling through her Twitter and drinking every time she mentions Apex in all caps would be very dangerous) keeps it in my mind.

I'd probably be very bad at it, I'm normally bad at battle royales.

I've been having mild FOMO from my Apex friends although most of them live on the other side of the world so it's not feasible for me to play with them anyway. I'm sure there's another timeline where I'm really invested in battle royales that aren't Fall Guys or Tetris.

Can second the good word to SUPERHOT, recently played through myself and though the main game is a bit short, the achievement hunty bonus missions were satisfying to beat. Actually I need to remember to boot up the game in a month or so because there's a seasonal achievement I need to finish the set.

Lately myself I've been playing through Sekiro and being very up and down with my opinion on it but at its best it's stellar. Similar going with 12 Minutes which I played last week on account of Lisa Simpson coffee meme -> it's a time loop game. Not everything lands but it has a unique atmosphere.

I like short games, because I can't finish most (non-map painting) games unless they are. So I'm really surprised to be able to say I've actually finished Superhot: most innovative shooter i've played in years - will beat achievement hunting side missions later.

on another note I want to be a real gamer and I've been led back to Undertale (seeing numerous genocide routes streams helps - though in such a way as to avoid true spoilers for what's going on (I think?) - only watching the big boss fights and appreciating the skills on display - as has seeing my students doodle Sans (they also doodle amonguses)), I actually finished one of the boss fights this time so maybe I'll complete a route of that soon.

I have to admit I used a program to take me straight to the two key genocide fights rather than actually do the run proper because it was too tedious/sad. But they are great spectacles.

this game (Jump King) is currently haunting me

it's a great choice for playing while listening to song contests though, as long as you can handle the frustration of losing progress every time your jump is a fraction of a millisecond off.

This has been kinda spurred on thanks to Club Bizarre but has anyone been playing Super Auto Pets lately? I found the website and haven’t done the premium stuff but it’s really addicting and rage inducing

Just finished Elden Ring. Had a rocky start but once I got into a good stride with it, it was an excellent time spent. Probably my favourite FromSoftware game of the 5 I've played.

I play easy light games that help me to test and improve my mining skills. I found cool ethereum games at https://rollercoin.com/ where I can buils virtual mining center and even earn few coins while playing. Now these games are my favs. Hope I'll earn some extra coins in the near future.

Been playing quite a bit of Deep Rock Galactic - really fun!

Also playing Chicory: A Colourful Tale. Quite a nice relaxed game and quite addictive! I'm not much of an artistic person either so was surprised at how much I enjoy this.

I've recently got Chivalry 2 as well which is so fun and brutal.

I just started playing Saints Row that I got off PS+ recently (ish) for the first time. I’ve never played any of the previous ones so this is totally new to me but I’m having a blast! Reminds me a lot of GTA but you get to totally customise your character which is kinda cool
