September 8, 20214 yr 6-10 7 ABBA - Don't Shut Me Down * 8 ABBA - I Still Have Faith In You * It was a stupid move not to have two physical formats for Don't Shut Me Down. In hindsight, they should have made it the main single over I Still Have Faith In You.
September 8, 20214 yr it would be hilarious if Stay avoids ACR by the smallest of margins and then goes on to deny Ed from going to number one. but that probably won’t happen Ed will pull out every promotional tactic he can think of next week.
September 8, 20214 yr 'STAY' to avoid ACR and go on to break the record for most weeks peaking at #2 :cheeseblock: (I wouldn't mind seeing it sneak a week at #1 even if it'd be rather flukey x)
September 8, 20214 yr It was a stupid move not to have two physical formats for Don't Shut Me Down. In hindsight, they should have made it the main single over I Still Have Faith In You. I expect they probably knew Don’t Shut Me Down would perform better, it’s way more commercial and similar to what they’re known for, and more likely to get airplay. They probably feel it made more sense for them to put the main focus on I Still Have Faith In You as it’s lyrically fitting for a comeback single after such a long time, is the first track on the album, and better fit that nostalgic video. But it definitely would have been nice to have the two formats for both indeed. My two CD singles arrived today! According to the credits DSMD was recorded in 2017! I guess we’ve known they’ve been holding back new music but it still surprised me that it’s just been sitting there finished for four years. They don’t rush things!
September 8, 20214 yr Iron Maiden vs. Drake still looking hard to call - if Drake keeps closing 2.5k per day as he did today then he will get the #1 (counting it as being effectively 3 days left to add due to the streaming lag) but there's not much room for error as that'd only put him ahead by <1k (so easily caught if Iron Maiden have another sales bump or if his own stream dropoff continues to accelerate). Whatever you think of the artists in question it's great to have a genuinely close race for the #1, and with both on pretty respectable sales by 2021 standards! -cue it ending up not being close at all- I presume there is not much chance of Simz hanging onto the top 5? Guessing she is likely to fall behind ABBA and Olivia at least. She already has enough sales to have been in last week's top 10 though so top 10 should be assured which is still great, just would love her to hang onto the top 5 so she would get the mention on the chart show.
September 8, 20214 yr Everything to still go to ACR but Shivers to flop and Industry Baby to go to #1 by default as Drake dwindles. (I can be deluded lmao)
September 8, 20214 yr The true blessed outcome: everything goes to ACR, 'Shivers' flops and Drake drops off hard, resulting in 'Bad Habits' hanging onto #1 even on ACR.
September 8, 20214 yr STAY to avoid ACR and block Ed from #1 next week :cheeseblock: (I can dream x) Stranger thing have happened!
September 8, 20214 yr Little mix drop fast Already forgot that they released a single. They picked pretty busy week.. Edited September 8, 20214 yr by Sour Candy
September 8, 20214 yr I prefer Don’t Shut Me Down, so I’m happy that’s ahead of I Still Have Faith In You.
September 8, 20214 yr Off topic but does anyone know how OCC's estimated Thursday streams actually work? I know that Thursday's streams from Spotify, Apple Music, etc are usually estimated because they don't report on time, but I don't know how. Is it just based on the average streams for the week as a whole or does it take into account the song's trend and whether or not it's been increasing or decreasing through the week? Because that could genuinely make the difference for the #1 single this week.

Because that could genuinely make the difference for the #1 single this week. it's not the average, it's an estimate obtained using the machine learning method. Basically you make a model, first you feed it with the all-time Spotify data, so the machine learns how songs perform, then you put the weekly data, and it predicts how they will perform on Thursday... it's like... imagine for the Titanic... you first feed the model with all the real data of all the passengers, sex, age, social status and if they died or not... then you put your own data, man, 36, poor... and the model tells you: you die :) Thursday streams are almost identical to Wednesday streams, so easy job anyway for the OCC
September 9, 20214 yr Why is Mariah Carey's Fantasy back on charts? What did I miss? A 4k video release of it that has been aggressively promoted on YouTube, and I mean aggressively promoted including thenremix video so that's a immediate doubling of streams as well Edited September 9, 20214 yr by chartfridays
September 9, 20214 yr Fantasy appears heavily in the new film Free Guy so I’d imagine that is helping quite a bit too.
