yeah, this time the Swedish televote were wrong, I'll take this. I haven't been getting as excited about it as others but it's a good song, and probably one I'll end up liking a lot more than most Swedish entries.

Hold Me Closer is solid but people are really doing WAY too much :lol:

Other than Run To The Hills, yes, and it is vey good and could well win, but a lot of people are acting like it's a foregone conclusion now which I just don't see. It is great to see Sweden sending a solo female with a genuinely good song again though instead of male mediocrity!

I definitely don't see it as the deal done sort of winner that a lot of fans are currently raving about, when obviously it was even some way from winning the televote in its own national final. I suspect it will be a safe top ten overall with a top five jury vote and a top ten televote.

 

So I'm definitely not getting carried away with how it's likely to do but on a personal level it's nevertheless still one of my favourite Eurovision entries of the last few years. It ticks all the boxes of what I love in an entry - catchy melody, big chorus, gorgeous brooding Scandi electro production, heartfelt and honest lyrics, effective staging, raw emotion, a likeable performer with an underdog story and all presented in a typically Swedish fashion, it's gorgeous.

You've hit the nail on the head - so much good will is thrown towards it to win because she was the underdog. Fans are almost blind-sighted by the fact it's just a 'good song' that unexpectedly won. I can't see it romping easily to victory but I can see it having both jury and televote potential. Even John L who land-slided the jury vote (in Mello in 2018) couldn't repeat the same feat at ESC. Cornelia didn't even score consistently top with juries in Mello this year. She did well with them, but it's non a foregone conclusion.

This is absolutely my favourite entry of the year and it's great to see Sweden a) not be sending a man again and b) sending something that doesn't sound like it's engineered specifically for Eurovision (although it probably still is, it just sounds more authentic) and I'm sure this will give them a nice re-bound in the televote in May.

 

I think it's a potential jury winner, a lock for top 5 and will be a contender on the night, but not a surefire win at all. I still think we'll be seeing back-to-back Italian victories.

I'd say Frans wasn't expected at all when the 2016 artists were announced but I'd be interested to find out which one of them was further down the initial odds.

Not much to note about the full results BUT if it was just down to 'amount of votes' rather than the 'demographic points' system then Alvaro Estrella would've made the final over Anna Bergendahl and Lisa Miskovsky would've made the final over Cazzi Opeia.

I'm usually not a raving fan of Swedish entries (not even Euphoria), nor have I been a huge critic either.

 

But this song is on another level. The authenticity is undeniable.

It's pleasant but for me, forgettable.... still, am sure it will do well.

I went to see Cornelia in Berlin this week. Bought the ticket on a bit of a whim (thanks social media advertising) not really sure what to expect, other than a stunning rendition of Hold Me Closer of course. It was a bit of a gamble but it paid off handsomely. She was so good!!! I really enjoyed her catalogue of previous releases and some upcoming slices from the album. She was really warm, funny and engaging. Overall it was a really great experience and I’m so glad I went. Looking forward to getting the album whenever she finally finishes it!!

 

In any event, while I quite liked this at the time, since the contest this has just stayed with me and kept growing in my affections. It’s just such a wonderful song

Ooh great, I'm going to her London concert on Weds. Really glad the new material is sounding good. Hold Me Closer was enough convincing for me to pay for the cheap ticket. I did see her at the London Eurovision Party in April and she was great there too, but was left wanting more!

That’s the same boat I was in. Ticket wasn’t expensive and it was worth a gamble from Hold Me Closer. I had a really great night. Hope that you do also!
