I've often thought that signed things are a scam, I swear they must have a team of people who are taught the vaguely appropriate scribble and then they do it instead.

I mean it's hard to say that the very notion of convincing people to pay extra amounts of money for something that has someone's signature written on it isn't some variety of easy money scam itself :lol: But we all ascribe our own values to things.

The fact they are being sold for 99p kind of implies that they're not even trying to pretend they have any value...! (I'm not sure if the people making these offers are even also selling non-signed CDs?)

 

I do get the value of having a signed item from a physical meet and greet signing as a souvenir to remember the meeting but buying one online definitely just seems a little pointless to me as it involves a lot of blind trust that the signature is legitimate (and even if it is, the fact that it was signed in a different location and not even intended for the person buying it specifically diminishes the value of it considerably lol)

Any updates on Maneskin? I was hoping they could go top 40 this Have they a chance next week?

 

So far they have fallen on each daily update on Spotify since debuting at #35, currently down to #107. I predicted before release that whether it becomes another big hit or not is almost entirely dependent on if TikTok takes to it or not so I'm guessing so far it hasn't really, although there's still every chance it could in some later week (there are far too many recent examples to name for why it's no longer safe to write nearly any release off after just the first week). As things stand it looks like it'll probably be falling in its second week though.

 

I think it's important to remember though that even though they did happen to strike gold with getting 2 big hits earlier this year, they are still an Italian rock band who got popular through Eurovision, the cards are not exactly stacked in their favour to have sustained success in the UK :lol: so I don't think there's much shame in this song not necessarily doing as well as 'I WANNA BE YOUR SLAVE' or 'Beggin'' or even 'ZITTI E BUONI'. And this song is still doing better than attempted follow-ups by some other acts who had big songs on TikTok, look at Masked Wolf, Arizona Zervas, CJ etc...

you know what...#1 is #1.

I loved signed stuff but only if I randomly meet the artist after a gig and they write my name and write something personal and then sign it

With the latest midweeks Dua and Elton hardly need Ed’s endorsement to get the no 1. He really has managed to manipulate the situation so that it appears he’s graciously “given” them the no 1 rather than them getting it because their sales and streams were more than his. I mean I’d normally stan that level of petty, but he’s just insufferable.

Excuse a minor nitpick but Ed's actually ahead of them on streams (3k chart sales ahead if we look at streams alone)

I really like signed CDs. It just feels special knowing your CD has been handled and signed by the artist themselves. Not so keen though on the trend for signed inserts though, that's not as good. I want the outside signed!

Grace Davies is really plugging hard today to get Roots in the top 100 tomorrow, sounds like it's really important to her bless her. I guess she's gonna fall short but good effort.

Yeah they're not stamps - you can usually tell it's a marker pen... but yes if you look at different images of ones that have been received for pretty much any act, the variety in signature is often really telling!

That's not what I mean by them being a scam - I just mean that it would be so easy for them to claim the signatures are genuine when they actually aren't that it kind of defeats the entire value of the product. (I'm not even talking about them in relation to the charts, just the concept of signed CDs being sold online in itself)

 

I guess if you are willing to trust that it was a real signature from the actual person and you find value in that yourself then that's fine. I just never would myself. Maybe I am just too cynical x

It does make you wonder how many artists do actually sign them though (not that we'd ever find out), though I remember a few years ago The 1975 did several hours of livestreaming them signing art cards for the album.
