Gosh not Ed Sheeran's week! He will probably release a single/video along with the album, and Bad Habits will return to SCR. I wonder if he will beat Adele!

I swear they always end up with the same release weeks as the biggest pop stars in the world.

Break Up Song - Future Nostalgia

Holiday - Folklore

Sweet Melody - Positions

Love Sweet Love - Drake

Ugh.

I suppose if its gonna be a hit then it will be a hit regardless but its just annoying this will make the debut look worse than it is (especially on streaming services when Ed takes over the charts for a while  )

I really hope they go all in for this, a hit before the album release would help the pre orders massively.

I really don''t see why they do this when everyone knows when artists are releasing. Although I think they're hoping this does a Sweet Melody and climbs a lot in the new year which I don't think is the worst idea tbf.

Why does it matter who else is releasing? It's not 2010 where 'chart battles' on iTunes are a thing. They're not looking for a number 1 debut with this.
Yeah but when someone big drops a whole album it could get in the way of their Spotify/AM exposure, like folklore did with Holiday. Holiday was always near the Top 50 but took ages to stabilise in there because folklore's album tracks refused to leave.
positions was the only thing that didn’t massively affect them iirc but probably bc the video saved it - the girls are back to “weaker” videos now (by no fault of their own) so they need a quiet week to capitalise. Ed’s release week is quite possibly the worst time of the year to release it. (Or y’know, Drake’s release week )

Because having buzz on week 1 helps a song get off the ground massively. I feel as though releasing Holiday on the same day of Folklore definitely hindered the song long term, and the same with Break Up Song, I believe both would have had higher peaks if they didn't choose those weeks in particular. Sweet Melody was the same day as just positions the song so fought with his video, and got good recognition. These things do make a difference.

^ not very solid examples. Yes if any of those songs even entered the charts in the top 5 but they didn't so blaming another release is not the reason.

Fact is they're 10 years and 32 singles into their careers. They have never ever been a group that is guaranteed high entries or even high peaks and releasing against the likes of Ed or Adele is not going to change that.

I mean, the higher is goes on spotify the likelyhood of it increasing on playlists like HHUK

They’re fine examples? For instance, as someone else pointed out, Holiday took ages to find its footing due to Folklore being in the top 50, along with the competition around Summer 2020 - Little Mix may be a huge act but their support on streaming generally isn’t the best, so they do need the buzz and quiet weeks to capitalise.

It’s not about an initial high entry but if there’s no buzz in the initial first few weeks a song is pretty much dead.

I still haven’t listened to any of the leaks but I’m tempted
I can see No being a lot more stream-friendly than the last single. I do really think it has hit potential.
Can someone please send me a link to 'No' please??
I thought Holiday did well enough in the end. It's sold 440k and spent a fair amount of time top 20.

Me neither. My excitement for the album is already pretty low with the Jesy feud, imminent split rumours and LSL being pretty bad, so I want to save the remaining songs for when they are released.

All this Holiday slander lol. In the end it didn't really do much worse than Break Up Song, especially when you consider BUS was a lead single. Both are also gold certified, and they also have similar worldwide reach in terms of countries they charted in.

Unpopular opinion: I prefer Holiday to Break Up Song. Jade's parts are my bests.

^ exactly. Positions mean very little these days. It is all about longevity. Better to have a top 20 that stays around and goes gold than to have something like Bounce Back that hits the top 10 and has barely scraped silver 2 years later.
