Loving this new one from Overmono - out on XL Recordings.

The duo were responsible for the music on the MOBO-nominated director Hugo Jenkins' recent documentary, 'Better Days: The Story of UK Rave'.

For the past 4 years our studio has been in an old magazine printing building. after moving in we ripped up the carpets to expose this amazing wooden flooring and thought to ourselves – ‘why the f*** would anyone cover this up?’ – turns out ink from the old print presses that used to be there still comes up through the floor and makes these grimy swirling patterns that slowly shift over weeks and months.

Earlier this year we found out the building was being sold for re-development. We had two weeks to get out. Packing down the studio was left till the very last night and we spent the rest of the time making one last tune there. The chords in “Bby” are those ink stains. Woozy and morphing, feeling like they might swallow you up.”

Finally a new banger to play on repeat. Stream Gunk

Oh my. Love this one too, the artwork for this whole project is wonderful <3

Cash Romantic EP is out on April 8th and will include Gunk alongside 4 other new tracks.

1. Cash Romantic

2. Gunk

3. Gfortune

4. Bone Mics

5. Phosycon

We found this box of old tapes we’d recorded when we were kids where we’d basically try and mashup old records of our parents with whatever records we were buying at the time.

After listening to some of these old tapes, we wrote this record and realised our heads are still pretty much in the space as when we were kids.

Full EP out now and on repeat

Pitchfork gave it a 7/10.

Another stellar release from them. Title track works as a nice intro and a foray into DnB, but nothing spectacular. The trap sample on Gfortune was a pleasant surprise. Bone Mics was a highlight for me, some really cool and hypnotic production. Phosycon is a gorgeous ambient epic (for fans of the amazing Bby). Their sound is so refreshing and unique.

The vinyl looks gorgeous.

'Bone Mics' is a full fat banger :cheeseblock: (really like 4/5 tracks from this EP, 'Phosycon' is a little weaker but still good)

New collab with Joy Orbison is f***ing insane

SO SO GOOD.

Pitchfork track review:

Both on their own and side by side, Joy Orbison and the brothers in Overmono have a knack for big-room anthems. Overmono cuts like “Le Tigre” and “So U Kno” strike the perfect balance between potent and pliable; credited to Joy Overmono, the collaborative production “Bromley” pulls off a similar trick. (Orbison, of course, pretty much invented the supersaturated, endorphin-rushing style that currently rules UK dance music with his 2009 single “Hyph Mngo.”) “Blind Date” is the first release from the three musicians since “Bromley,” and it might cut an even more imposing figure than that 2019 song. Like its predecessor, it’s built around a snatch of vocals that’s been chopped into wordless delirium. But where they deployed the “Bromley” hook only sparingly, sending it tearing across the stereo field at unexpected moments, a tightly looped vocal snippet stretches across the length of “Blind Date,” like a particularly inviting expanse of shag rug. The real drama happens in the extended breakdown, when a more extended vocal sample goes sailing out over a void sketched by yawning, detuned synths. Oscillators whir; that hiccupping monosyllable pans desperately back and forth. It's dizzying, vertiginous, practically a parody of festival-sized drama—cartoonish in the best way, like the moment Wile E. Coyote goes skating off the cliff’s edge and hangs suspended in mid-air. Then, bang, the downbeat returns, and everything goes plummeting giddily back to earth.
