March 3, 20223 yr Yeah Spaceman is sounding good, particularly among the current crop of entries, if it does indeed end up being ours. It's a little bit Elton, or John Lewis advert sounding (and not dissimilar to Delta Goodrem's Dear Elton from last year), but would be a much better production than anything the UK has sent since Molly. It has a soaring chorus and clearly Sam has a fantastic voice so I'd expect it to do ok with the juries. Not convinced it's televote bait but hopefully it could lift us out of the bottom five.
March 3, 20223 yr Given the hype around the TaP collaboration, I’ll be livid if send a Radio 2 bothering, vanilla bed-wetter entry. Why are we so timid in sending something interesting?
March 3, 20223 yr Here's the Radio Edit of Space Man that was played on radio earlier, it clocks in at 2:50: p8s_5_P8D70
March 3, 20223 yr It really does sound like BBTory does Eurovision tbh  It's a good sang, but not a Eurovision song.
March 3, 20223 yr I'm still not convinced that's the song tbh - I think people are clutching onto the "what if the song's already been released" thing that was only a fan rumour a bit too hard.
March 3, 20223 yr A lot of songs are under 3 minutes anyway as attention spans are shorter these days.
March 3, 20223 yr I don't know why they would have cut so much of the song though to get it under three minutes, plus it's Scott's tune of the week. I think getting the song out there and then announcing it as our entry later on is a good approach if that's happening. I'm all for it being something better, but rather this than waiting months to find out it's Chelcee Grimes who could've been predicted since the day of the TaP announcement.
March 3, 20223 yr I really like Sandman! :o I'm still not convinced it's our entry though. Edited March 3, 20223 yr by mald487
March 3, 20223 yr I like ‘Space Man’ but kind of wish we could of send something more like this remix of ‘Tiny Riot’ sp5GBtg0Gbg
March 7, 20223 yr Space Man has definitely had more money behind it than most of the recent entries which makes a huge difference. However, I feel like I’ve heard a copy of this song every year (I can literally picture it in the song recaps) and I swear it always lingers around the bottom of the leaderboard as again it’s a bit bland and gets forgotten about. I just wish they’d be more experimental (and not in an Electro Velvet way…!) as that’s what stands out more. Blending into the background is the worst thing to do when there’s 25 other songs! Even Never Give Up on You was slightly more unusual with its structure and that kind of paid of in at least getting us into the teens.
March 7, 20223 yr I have an intense dislike of bed-wetter Radio2 bothering songs. I really, really don’t like it. However if I get out of my strop, I think it had a lot more gravitas and with eye bopping staging, who knows? If “You Let Me Walk Alone” can come 4th…
March 7, 20223 yr Space Man doesn't really excite me that much, but it's a step in the right direction for us. It doesn't matter so much how it does, I just think for once sending a song that's getting airplay and could organically be popular is a solid step, rather than some random, cheap nothingy song.
March 7, 20223 yr Honestly, it's hard to say how well this song will do. It's easy to say this kind of song always gets ignored, and yes, sometimes it does. But for every 'Bigger Than Us', there's been 'You Let Me Walk Alone', 'Nobody But You', 'Love Is On My Side', 'Color Of Your Life' etc. Sometimes a Radio 2 kinda song CAN actually do really well if it connects and I think (if this is our entry, of course, we're still speculating) this has potential to do so purely because it's feels genuine rather than Eurovision-made. Equally, it could come bottom 5 due to it being nobody's favourite. Both are a possibility, but I definitely don't think is a write-off just because it's not immediately different to what we've sent in the past.
March 7, 20223 yr Sam Ryders gig in May has been curiously pushed back. Gutted. He also been removed from the line up for that festival he was going to be performing at. I think there is no doubt he is the artist. The only hope is that ‘Space Man’ isn’t the song which I think is unlikely now. Edited March 7, 20223 yr by darrens94
March 8, 20223 yr Not related to this year but I've just noticed that Freaks by Jordan Clarke, from You Decide 2019, has 62 million plays on Spotify. Whaaat? That was my favourite that year, we definitely should have sent it over Bigger Than Us. I'm not sure how it went viral exactly but I'm sure we could have picked up a few points if it's proven that popular on streaming.
