November 3, 20214 yr So, Ed sold 24k physical units since Monday update. That's pretty good. Either sold or belatedly added on.
November 3, 20214 yr Yeah I would assume the majority of that is the HMV Friday sales being added on - now only needs 15k or so more to secure the highest opening week sales of any album since '÷'.

November 3, 20214 yr Until Adele. I mean Abba will surpass him next week. And then Adele 2 weeks later. Edited November 3, 20214 yr by iain
November 3, 20214 yr Unless the pre-order figures turn out to be bollocks then I expect ABBA will take a higher first week sale than Ed.
November 3, 20214 yr It’s not helped that reviews for Ed’s album haven’t been v encouraging Ed has never got good reviews (his first two albums were marginally better reviewed than the ones since then but still hardly massively acclaimed), I don't think there's much of a crossover between people whose buying habits are swayed by reviews and people who buy Ed Sheeran albums. See also Coldplay the other week. From what I have seen the reaction among actual listeners has been better to this album than it was to his last two.
November 3, 20214 yr From what I have seen the reaction among actual listeners has been better to this album than it was to his last two. fwiw I didn't enjoy = as much as No.6, though I did prefer it to ÷. + and especially × are still easily his best albums for me though.
November 3, 20214 yr I've yet to hear Ed's album in full, but I already know it has at least more than one listenable song which is more than I can say for ÷ (which literally only had 'Castle on the Hill' going for it) To be fair I thought his first two albums were actually really good, so I think maybe the horror of the ÷ era is what put me off.
November 3, 20214 yr with all the Sheeran nonsense, a much better album from a real singer-songwritter Tori Amos - Ocean to Ocean is at #12 and that's without vinyls!!!!! could have been easily her first top 10 in ages if synchronized properly I eill listen to it. Manufactured Fad Sheeran is the worst thing to happen to the charts since Pop BratJustin Bibber, Eating Expensive Food Whilst Staring At His Writwrs Forced to Camp In Studios To Create His Trash "Songs"Drake, or even Westshite.
November 3, 20214 yr I mean Abba will surpass him next week. And then Adele 2 weeks later. Tbh I'm not convinced Adele will trounce ABBA. That could be quite close as far as first weeks go.
November 3, 20214 yr Very underwhelming sales for Ed. Whoever compared it to the release of Rachel Stevens' Come & Get It was spot on. You spend the whole week hoping sales will improve and it just never happens.
November 3, 20214 yr fwiw I didn't enjoy = as much as No.6, though I did prefer it to ÷. + and especially × are still easily his best albums for me though. For me, ÷ > x > 6 > = > + (now there's an equation that makes no mathematical sense)
November 3, 20214 yr Tbh I'm not convinced Adele will trounce ABBA. That could be quite close as far as first weeks go. I know ABBA will do huge numbers but I'll be mega shocked if Adele won't do more.
November 3, 20214 yr For me, ÷ > x > 6 > = > + (now there's an equation that makes no mathematical sense) For me, × >> + > No.6 >> = > ÷
November 3, 20214 yr For me, × >> + > No.6 >> = > ÷ Funny that your favourite is my least favourite and vice versa. Proves the world's not a boring place
November 3, 20214 yr I haven't heard '=' yet but I think I'd go 'x' > '+' >> '÷' >> 'No.6 Collaborations Project' - the first two albums were definitely noticeably better as full bodies of work, the latter two both have their moments, 'Castle On The Hill' in particular is my favourite song from him across all eras, but they also have far more duds which drag them down as overall experiences (perfectly forgivable for 'No.6' considering it's not even trying to be a coherent album, trim off the fat and just keep the best 6 or 7 songs and it'd be fine as a continuation of his earlier EPs).
