Jeff Stelling is to leave Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday at the end of the season after more than 25 years at the helm.

The 66-year-old, who has presented the show since 1994, made the announcement on Saturday and was met with a standing ovation by fellow pundits.

Hartlepool fan Stelling, who joined Sky in 1992, does not intend to retire.

"I have come to the incredibly difficult decision that this will be my last season," he said.

"This is my decision - there has been no pressure. Sky have been absolutely brilliant with me, as they always have been.

"I am not intending to retire but it is time to let somebody else have a go at what is the best job in the world."

He added: "I have loved every moment of my 30 years with Sky, but like every Saturday afternoon the time eventually comes to blow the final whistle.

"I am proud to have been part of such a winning team for so long and look forward to the many more special moments on Soccer Saturday for the rest of this season - and perhaps even another promotion push from Hartlepool United."

Ah sad to see what a legend, I didn’t even know soccer Saturday had been on since 1994 thought it was like from 2000 or so. And he doesn’t look a day over 50 never mind 66!!

Unbelievable Jeff!

I found this hard to believe. I remember when a player called James Brown was playing for Hartlepool and he got a tad carried away when he scored.

Been a pleasure watching Jeff over the years. Highlight from his presenting was when Kamara missed a sending off and mistook it for a sub...

Wow, can't believe it has been 25 years. He always injected some humour into what could have been quite a dry show, which I guess explains much of its (and his) success.

There was a fantastic player at Exeter called Adam Stansfield (who in 2010 sadly died at the tragically young age of 31) which I always remember Jeff referring to every week as 'Lisa Stansfield's brother' when he inevitably ended up on the scoresheet for Exeter, which was most weeks! I think he was never red carded in all his appearances, anyway Jeff made a really heartfelt tribute when the sad news broke.

I always thought this would be THE impossible job to follow once Jeff leaves and now we will found out. Soccer Saturday was my absolute staple every week for many years and Jeff was the heart & soul of the show. So many highlights and it was just a show watching people watch football (as someone who struggles to understand how the concept of Gogglebox is entertaining, that's quite ironic actually).

Admittedly I had found myself drifting to BT Sport Score in recent years but Soccer Saturday definitely had the best moments.

Sad to see!

His best moment:

“I FEEL GOOD DEHNANEHNAH”

James Brown scores for Hartlepool!!

I seem to recall that he had a prop for when that happened as well once or twice.
