PUSH THE BUTTON: HOLLERWEEN

London's premier pop party is BACK celebrating 25 years of SPICEWORLD

PLATFORM BOOTS AT THE READY. SHUT UP, GERI! We’re celebrating two gay holidays: Halloween and the 25th anniversary of Spiceworld!

HAI! SI! JA! HOLD TIGHT as we SPICE UP the Royal Vauxhall Tavern as we Never Give Up On The Good Times. Don’t worry If U Can’t Dance - there’s a show to enjoy at 00:30 with Mama Cola and Shakona Fire.

We’ll be playing SPICE GIRLS HITS, SPICE SOLO HITS, and HALLOWEEN HITS. This is going to be a HOT MESS OF A HOLLERWEEN. Say You’ll Be There!

Fancy dress is STRONGLY encouraged - and though the Spices are a nineties band, this is 2022 so keep it classy, white Mel Bs.

Don't be afraid to play my game (let's go)

It’s a celebration of all things Spicy, but we’ll also be playing the usual HITS: From Robyn & Gaga to Aqua & Schlager, PUSH THE BUTTON is a celebration of the last 3 decades of POP! Synths, guitars, keytars, drum-machines, girl bands, boy bands, impossible princesses - it's a glamophonic, electronic, d-d-disco baby!

PUSH THE BUTTON gets very busy, very quickly, so we recommend purchasing a ticket to save queue-ing.

Over 18s ONLY.

Newcomers: if you've not been to PTB before then check out our Twitter/Facebook to see the sort of stuff we play.

Shut up, Geri! What an iconic line.

I remember how much hate Melanie C got for constantly rolling her eyes each time Geri spoke in the movie but wasn’t it Victoria who said that line?

I mean. That’s what we were all thinking. Geri used to speak a lot And sometimes she barely breathed. I can’t count how many times I’ve rolled my eyes.

Spiceworld artwork has FINALLY been updated on streaming services!!!

No more yellow scans of an 2nd hand CD they bought in a car boot sale down in Stoke on Trent!!! We did it girls :cheer:

Hallelujah! :cheer: It’s about time, it looks soooo much better now.

Agreed! It only took 84 years :teresa:

I know we moan about this campaign but things like getting Step to me on streaming, the lyric video, new SUYL video and high quality cover for Spiceworld the album do make it worthwhile. Those things will be there for years to come thankfully now.

TBH sammy, things like Step To Me being on streaming and the cover of one of their biggest album being in at least ok quality is not even the bare minimum... those things should have been done years ago...

The campaign overall has been terrible..

I’ve just noticed that they’ve used the cover image where Melanie C’s shoe is cropped weirdly (like it is on the vinyl cover - both the 1997 and 2020 versions), so it’s not totally perfect *sigh*!

Whilst this is true their music was left to gather dust for years, even when they did the Olympics/Viva Forever musical so I am thankful for these anniversariy releaees at least getting those things right now.

I am thankful we have all 4 albums on various vinyls now, new online content on streaming and Youtube. That was almost unthinkable in 2009-2018.

Whats the difference?

This is the scan that was on download and streaming platforms before today, for approaching 20 years. Presumably it's a scan of the original CD:

This is what they've replaced it with:

^ This replacement cover is the same artwork that was used for the 1997 vinyl release. The vinyl artwork doesn't have black dots outlining the SPICE logo like it does on the CD. The globe image is smaller on the vinyl than on the CD. Plus there's the aforementioned Melanie C foot cropping issue. The 2020 vinyl release ended up using the original vinyl artwork, and it has now gained a new status as being the official digital artwork.

A gif to compare the old and new digital covers:

^In terms of overall quality, it's obvious that this replacement image an improvement and preferable over what it used to be.

However, ideally it would have been better if they'd used this instead! -

An interesting thing about the Spiceworld 25 artwork is that they've more closely followed the CD design instead of the vinyl, in terms of the globe image being larger and finding an image source where Melanie C's foot is full. Though for some reason they decided to shift everything upwards and slightly reduced the size of the SPICE logo:

A few more gifs to show the differences between various covers:

Original 1997 CD vs. Original 1997 Vinyl+2020 Vinyl:

I prefer the 'Spice' without the black dots round it.

Same.

And my god, the Spiceworld25 cover will haunt me for the rest of my life... I didnt think it was possible to get worse than Spice25 and Forever, but I think this does it for me....
