So this party mix is just previously released remixes strung together. Yeah, this sums up these anniversary editions. Strung together cash grabs.

Exactly what I thought it would be. Uninspired.

The GH megamix already delivered that, unfortunately.

I also had to wait until Christmas to get the album!! I remember I asked for a Spice Girls Christmas that year, said I wanted everything to be Spice Girls themed and I got the album, a pencil case, a drinks bottle, a lunch box, one of the GIANT ASDA cards, the ASDA beanbag, the Spice in my pocket series, One hour of girl power, Live in Instanbul aaaaaaand... A BIKE (not Spice Girls related but like I gave a shit by that point haha it was a bloody bike!!!)

New Zealand fans are saying that Spiceworld25 is not out in Dolby Atmos

Honestly what the f***... Didnt Biff say he did both albums last year?... What the hell..

Apple released it 1hour in advance so I am currently listening to it and yeah, the overall quality is piss poor, im sad to say...

Step To Me (Demo) is slowed down?... I quite like it, personally.

The original tracks do sound slightly better so they must have mastered them at least.

The live tracks are a real let down... Just really terrible quality, sadly.

Too Much, Viva Forever and Stop live are interesting to listen to as I don't think I have ever heard them, just wish they had done some proper mastering to these tracks, they are sooo poor quality... For instance, Viva Forever's beautiful and gorgeous sonic landscape of the live arrangement is so flat in this, jesus....

Stop is so fun live though, and still their personality does come across!!

The Extended Mix of Step To Me was completely unnecessary to be honest. It brings nothing new and it just sounds like it is taking up space in a CD where there are two other versions of it, one of which is too similar to the remix.

I don't even want to talk about the Spice Party Mix.

It absolutely is a shambles in terms of overall sound mastering in CD2... The levels are all so different, no equalisation was done at all... It sounds like they just ripped a few things from YouTube and put them on a CD without any editing or proper care for the music.

A shame because if Spice was seminal to their introduction to the world and success, Spiceworld really is the album that changed so many kids' lives, it is pure pop perfection and deserved much better than this lame attempt at a crash grab...

Oh girls... I shall not go back much to this at all, sadly.

Also, if Apple released the downloads 1hour before midnight, does it mean that the downloads on pre-orders are not going to affect the chart positions?... Im hopping this isnt the case, damn...

It’ll still count towards its release week, this 1 hour early thing is just something that happens because of the clocks going back! It’s happened in previous years too but the download sales never got included too early.

The feedback from Popjustice is similarly terrible about this release. Sometimes I feel like there’s such a small handful of us here on BuzzJack that those who are criticising may seem like they’re just spoiling the fun, but this is really being widely and dare I say deservedly criticised. These posts are all different people:

The Party Mix isn't even mixed well. An intern was given GarageBand and the tracks and this is what they came up with (I'm guessing...)

I can't believe they pressed these YouTube rips of the live performances on vinyl records. Travesty.

Because of how much the album means and has shaped many of us is why it's so upsetting.
Good grief, the quality of the live Viva Forever. They could've at least got someone to beef it up in Audacity or something.
The "Viva Forever" live arrangement is stunning and it was the one I was looking forward to most - if only for the two Mel's outro - but the mix is awful. So quiet and muddy!
This is such a sad day to be a fan, what a wasted opportunity. It feels like (I know they have) chucked a load of random files on a disc without any thought of mastering or equalisation. The vibrance and the punch of the live arrangements is completely missing, it all sounds so flat. The Party Mix is an embarrassment. This release is almost like a couple of people at Universal thought it would be funny to put together the worst possible

package and see if it got signed off.

It's just such a strange release. It's like someone started to do the work by finding the Manchester and Toronto shows in the archives but then it all just fell apart.
How the Spice Girls' label didn't commission anyone of note to do the Party Mix is beyond me.
I’m so deeply gutted that this is basically it. Given they’ve managed to source the Toronto and Manchester shows, why not just release them on YouTube in full? I’m sure most fans would at least be pretty chuffed with that. There is clearly more stuff out there but as per, they’d prefer to gatekeep.
The Spice Girls deserve better.

Sorry, it's the DJ/mixer in me that comes out when shoddy work gets released for the public.

the party mix is not good. They’ve put almost full lengths of each song in so it ends up almost 15 mins with hardly any songs in.

1. Spice Up Your Life

2. Step To Me

3. Stop

4. Never Give Up On The Good Times

5. Wannabe

6. Who Do You Think You Are

….that’s it

and that’s before the majority of them will be awake to give even more feedback. Not one positive thing to say about Spiceworld 25. The only positive comes from talking about the actual album itself and memories from 1997.

I do wonder if a talented fan will attempt to tidy up the files so that they sound better.

Of course the album has a lot of problems but popjustice is a hell hole you would do your mental health good not even going near it.

I wouldn’t say that personally, there’s so many people on there who are just like us, very passionate about music and artists. I mostly lurk on there and a lot of them write very insightful posts and have interesting discussions! Sure there’s a few characters on there who are not my cup of tea, but I think the same can be said on BuzzJack too, and definitely DenDen ( :kink: ) but I’ve always tried to focused more on the positive points of what these places bring (and for me that includes constructive criticism, which definitely applies to what is being said about Spiceworld 25).

I think in the Spice Girls Popjustice thread though there are some very genuine big fans who love them, and for that reason feel so let down by this album. Because it’s become so clear that not much care went into its creation, and that is gutting. The Spice Girls themselves deserve more (if those girls truly feel that this is the best they could have done, if they’re actually proud of this re-release, then wow) and we the fans deserved better too.

On a completely separate note, my bundle of 3x Vinyl & the cassette was processed & I got a dispatch email. It’s courier delivery so I’m a bit *eyebrow raise* that the dispatch email includes no tracking information. I’m not going to hold my breath that it’ll arrive today but fingers crossed.

Can the person who oversaw this project be fired. damn that mixing is awful. Viva Forever live sounds like it was recorded at the back of an empty arena with sound issues. This is an horrendous release and i can't believe Melanie C told us it would be better than Spice25. The only thing that can save this era is a tour announcement.

I am gutted about VF live because this was beautiful but you wouldnt think so.

Also disappointed with the partymix!

Five, Girls Aloud, Steps and many more have amazing mega mixes this is shite!

This negativity may stop any future releases but that is the girls fault! How they signed off on this is unbelievable!!

They are the worlds best selling girl group!!

^ I also think if this proves to sell badly, which my gut feeling is telling me is what will happen, then Universal/the girls will not interpret that as being a sign of "the release just wasn't good enough and we could have done better" but see it as the demand not being there, and feel shocked/confused/disappointed. Thus deterring them from bothering with other releases. But like you say, I think that's their fault, not the fans. A few of us have bought it, but I know that many have voted with their wallets and not bought a thing, and I won't hold them responsible for it because those fans have every right to decide not to invest in this.

I would like to have been a fly on the wall and seen who was involved in handling this project overall, and all the decisions made along the way. See if they truly and honestly hand on heart all thought that they gave this re-issue the best treatment it could possibly get. If there was any passion at all, or if any of the team had insight into what makes a good re-issue. Like... this is their job. It's mindblowing, really.

Over the years I've taken interest in other artists and their reissues, whether I'm a fan of theirs or not (I read threads that include many posts about reissues). I've never seen anything from any other artist that could be considered worse than Spiceworld 25, based on reaction I've read from other fans about quality/appearance/packaging etc.

Agree with everything Jay.

To me it sounds like the fans are complaining because they do care about the girls and their releases. The Spice Girls thread is one of the most popular ones on Popjustice with really good analysis and insights most of the time, with genuine love for the girls and their legacy.

I have never seen such dissapointment though, but that seems to stem from the fact that this album is deeply loved by the fandom at large who wanted to celebrate it in the best possible way.

I think the fans demanding something better is perfectly reasonable to me, and I have not seen any hatred this time, just genuine complains about the quality of this release.

I thought they were listening to some fans suggestion this time but clearly they just used them and did the bare minimum. Really they ought to fire the team who oversaw Spiceworld25. It didn’t even get same care or treatment like Spice25. How could they drop the ball like this?

I think it just reflects on the girls overall attitudes towards either the group or music as a whole. Unlike other bands who are genuinely passionate about making and releasing music the majority of the girls simply wanted to be famous or to perform in any way they could. That is why they are not invested in releases music wise anymore because it was never the main aim for them.

It's sad that such an iconic album like Spiceworld has been mistreated like this. For a group who got it SO right for a few years in the 90's they get very little right anymore.
