His new Christmas song exclusive for Amazon and his Finsbury Park show announcement were probably the signs something was afoot but The Sun are reporting today that George is returning to the charts early next year:

Single-minded George

It has been almost four years since Budapest singer George Ezra last treated his fans to new music – but he will make a stomping return to the charts in the New Year.

I can reveal that he is ready to make a comeback with a new single in January, followed by his third studio album just a few months later.

A music source said: “George has been working hard on the record for the past two years and is finally ready to come back.

“The single is set for the start of 2022 and there are talks about a possible performance at the Brit Awards in February, which would be perfect timing. The album will follow closer to the summer. It is sounding great.”

His last album, Staying At Tamara’s, became his second No1 in early 2018. It featured hit single Shotgun, which was one of the year’s biggest-selling tunes.

If George can repeat that success again, he will be selling out massive venues across the country again in no time.

I've loved both of his last two albums and 'Shotgun' was my favourite song of 2018 so I look forward to hearing what he brings us next. Hopefully his audience has stayed with him when he does return.

yes, a launch at the brits would be incredible!

George is so much more likeable and his music more interesting/fun than his peers (cough Ed Sheeran/Lewis Capaldi/James Arthur and every other boring straight white male artist with a guitar).

Here for more bops! :D

I kind of thought last time he'd left it so long that he might get forgotten (and when 'Don't Matter Now' completely bombed I assumed that had happened), but I think he's proven more than capable of maintaining his success.

But why isn't Alexa pushing this? or any of the Amazon exclusives

Xmas songs are already crazy high on Amazon, Mariah is #16, When #27

but the George Ezra Xmas song is only #150-ish at the moment

This isn't going to stand up so well if he properly flops.

Why are people on here obsessed with labelling things a flop? He hasn't even released anything to do with the album yet. Everyone seemed to write him off with Don't Matter Now underperformed. He then went on to have 2 massive selling singles, one being his first number 1 and then the album to sell extremely well.

I'd imagine he'll be able to replicate the success again - even if it is just with a big selling album given the state of the singles chart these days.

That did say 'if' tbf

This article framing his comeback as a 'stomping return to the charts' is a little presumptuous and prone to ageing like milk especially after his last lead single did not exactly smash (obviously the following singles did) but yanno, it's The Sun, I don't expect great writing.

I wasn't labelling him a flop - it was a comment to the OP article saying 'It has been almost four years since Budapest singer George Ezra last treated his fans to new music – but he will make a stomping return to the charts in the New Year." - there's no guarantees in music these days and there's certainly no guarantees that he'll make a stomping return to the charts.

His last album came out in 2018 and his last single "Pretty Shining People" peaked at 25 in 2019 - he could very easily become one of the many new breed of artists who'll grab a No 1 album with no chart single.

Thanks, glad someone got my point.

PSP was the *third* post-album single to be fair though, it making the top 40 was quite impressive!

Yeah, I'm not sure what that point was supposed to prove. An artist having THREE top 40 post album singles (one being a million selling number 1, one being a Platinum top ten and another still being a Gold top 40) when most artists can't even make the top 40 with one post album single just shows how big his last album was.

Yeh was gonna say an album with three post album top 40 singles is a huge album. Really want to listen to it again now!

hope we get the album sooner than later
  • 3 weeks later...
The album will be released on June 10 and there's going to be 16 tracks on the Apple Music edition. "Anyone For You" is the first song.
