1. How many copies will Adele's '30' sell in its opening week?

(points: 10, 8, 6, 4 and 2 for the five closest guesses respectively)

Coffin A Feel: 235000 | rio309: 288850 | chrissmith276: 506000 | PeteFromLeeds: 700000 | n4yr: 326713 | Doctor Blind: 285450 | jimwatts: 262144 | LewisGT: 263000 | Ansel: 300000 | JulianT: 248000 | Jade: 337000 | Danvember: 269000

Seen by many as something of an underperformance, '30' sold what is still a whopping 261,856 copies last week. Jimwatts somehow managed to predict this to within 288 copies (colour me seriously impressed!) and therefore is awarded the maximum of 10 points. Great predictions from LewisGT and Dan too.

Points awarded:

jimwatts 10 (262,144)

LewisGT 8 (263,000)

Danvember 6 (269,000)

JulianT 4 (248,000)

Doctor Blind 2 (285,450)

2. Who will have the second highest new entry on the album chart behind Adele?

(points: 10 if correct, 6 if your answer is the third highest entry, 3 if your answer is the fourth highest entry, nothing otherwise)

Coffin A Feel: Ed Sheeran | rio309: James Blunt | chrissmith276: D-Block Europe | PeteFromLeeds: Elbow | n4yr: D-Block Europe | Doctor Blind: Elbow | jimwatts: Elbow | LewisGT: Oasis | Ansel: Elbow | JulianT: Elbow | Jade: Oasis | Danvember: Elbow

I must admit, If I'd been taking part in this I'd have picked James Blunt and received a big fat zero for this question. And this is despite me being a huge Oasis fan! I just didn't think that a live album would attract quite so many sales but of course the Knebworth gig was nothing short of legendary (I should know - I was there!) Anyway going back to the question, well done to Jade and LewisGT who both correctly predicted Oasis for this question. Clearly Buzzjack completely under-estimated the collective selling power of Alison Krauss & Robert Plant because nobody went for them and instead Elbow was the most popular answer. Well done to the couple who went for D-Block Europe and pick up 3 points for their trouble.

Points awarded:

Jade, LewisGT 10

n4yr, chrissmith276 3

I was expecting everyone to pick Oasis. I was shocked it was just Jade and me but I'm glad it was

Yeah I was fairly confident with the Oasis answer and then panicked when I saw so many people picking Elbow thinking have I missed something?!

Glad that actually was a good answer, I definitely need it :kink:

3. How many copies will the #10 album sell?

(points: 10, 8, 6, 4 and 2 for the five closest guesses respectively)

Coffin A Feel: 10000 | rio309: 10250 | chrissmith276: 9678 | PeteFromLeeds: 10500 | n4yr: 8724 | Doctor Blind: 8500 | jimwatts: 8192 | LewisGT: 9000 | Ansel: 6000 | JulianT: 7800 | Jade: 5770 | Danvember: 8500

The #10 album was 'Between Us' by Little Mix and it sold 9,497 copies. With an impressive prediction of 9,678 (only 181 copies out) the full 10 points go to chrissmith276!

Points awarded:

chrissmith276 10 (9,678)

LewisGT 8 (9,000)

Coffin A Feel 6 (10,000)

rio309 4 (10,250)

n4yr 2 (8,724)

Oooops I didn't anticipate quite as many high new entries this week and presumed sales would be a fair bit slower, which was a bit dumb as we get closer to Christmas. Never mind
Going for a power of 2 didn't work for me there  Elbow's last album entered at #1 with 27k so I didn't expect such a comedown, but then I suppose the last Oasis album opened with more!

4. How many Greatest Hits collections will there be in the Top 100? *

(points: 10 if correct, 6 if 1 out, 3 if 2 out, nothing otherwise)

Coffin A Feel: 6 | rio309: 12 | chrissmith276: 21 | PeteFromLeeds: 10 | n4yr: 12 | Doctor Blind: 9 | jimwatts: 24 | LewisGT: 21 | Ansel: 21 | JulianT: 19 | Jade: 23 | Danvember: 21

I counted (and double-counted) 19 greatest hits collections in this week's Top 100, which is a few less than usual, probably explained by the high number of new entries and Christmas collections present this week. JulianT predicted this spot on for 10 points, nobody was one away and a handful of you were 2 away (picking up 3 points).

Points awarded:

JulianT 10

LewisGT, Ansel, Dan, chrissmith276 3

I counted 20 in this weeks chart. I wonder which album we disagree on.

Let's come back to that

5. How many new entries will there be in the top 10?

(points: 10 if correct, 6 if 1 out, 3 if 2 out, nothing otherwise)

Coffin A Feel: 3 | rio309: 3 | chrissmith276: 3 | PeteFromLeeds: 6 | n4yr: 4 | Doctor Blind: 7 | jimwatts: 5 | LewisGT: 5 | Ansel: 3 | JulianT: 6 | Jade: 4 | Danvember: 5

Less ambiguously, there were exactly 6 new entries in this week's Top 10. JulianT and PeteFromLeeds were spot on for the full 10 points, but unsurprisingly most people scored some points on this question.

Points awarded:

JulianT, PeteFromLeeds 10

LewisGT, jimwatts, Dan, Doctor Blind 6

n4yr, Jade 3

Yep as mentioned earlier I blindly answered that thinking it was about the singles chart - well, that went better for me than the past couple

Yep as mentioned earlier I blindly answered that thinking it was about the singles chart - well, that went better for me than the past couple

I did put that the first five questions relate to the album chart and the remaining five questions relate to the singles chart, but maybe I could have made it clearer or specified it per question, sorry!

Haha it's fine don't worry I just rushed a bit too much (speaking of which... better do the next quiz ASAP )

The Gregory Porter album. I was assuming it was a greatest hits album because of “the collection” but I honestly haven’t even read about it.

6. Who will be at number one in the singles chart?

(points: 10 if correct, 6 if your answer is at #2, 3 if your answer is at #3, nothing otherwise)

Coffin A Feel: Adele | rio309: Adele | chrissmith276: Adele | PeteFromLeeds: Adele | n4yr: Adele | Doctor Blind: Adele | jimwatts: Adele | LewisGT: Adele | Ansel: Adele | JulianT: Adele | Jade: Adele | Danvember: Adele

At the time of compiling these questions, this week's number one was slightly less predictable but with the release of 30, it was clear that it was only ever going to be Adele! And of course no one dropped any points on this one.

Points awarded:

Everyone 10 :cheer:
