guess Adele didn't like it very much either... in the best artist speech she mentioned all the other great nominees, Little Simz, Dave, Sam, but omitted... then in her last speech she mentioned nobody releases personal albums, which seemed to me like another go at Ed

This didn't happen at all, she mentioned Ed between Dave and Sam...

The latter part being a dig at Ed.... I mean, there's nothing to say either way so it's jumping to conclusions and putting words in Adele's mouth.

they made up an award for Ed?

but best songwriter? he writes like if he was 12 years old, his lyrics re some of the worst in the history of music :D

lol most successful doesn't mean best songwriter

Think you thought you were watching the Mercury Awards Bjork!

We really need mods to do this more Joseph some of the stuff that’s repeated in these threads is like fake news with no evidence for what is being said!

You are a great mod Joseph.

I can't at all the people complaining about Ed's "made up" award. I mean the guy has had more #1 singles than anyone this year and the second biggest selling album of the year, he writes all his own stuff (whether you like it or not) and has been a present feature in the music industry for years now flying the flag for British music all over the world. It would have been a travesty if he had been snubbed completely and not won anything, a bit like Spice Girls in 1998.

But it's not like he hasn't won anything in the past....

It’s also not like he wasn’t one of the most successful artists in the world and representing British music in the past either… if your biggest home grown talent doesn’t win it kinda makes a mockery of the whole show.

I mean I get it is industry “experts” but does anyone for a second think Adele’s album would have won album of the year if it had charted at #5 and sold 60k altogether? She has only won them because it’s “Adele” and the album has been huge. In reality this album is not on par with her others at all (albeit that is my opinion of course).

Adele admitted on the Graham Norton that she knew she was going to win an award, which presumably was album of the year seeing as she said for the other two that she wasn’t expecting to win them.

Kinda taints the whole point of the awards as I guess part of agreeing to come to the show was if they gave her the biggest award which is disappointing. And Ed probably got a similar deal for the songwriter award.

I thought the awards were fan voted this year anyway?

Regardless just watching it now and it honestly seems like it might be time to bin off the Brit awards and replace it with something new.

Abominable ratings, a relatively boring show, too much faffing, bloated length, all making it less exciting by the new year.

If they're telling artists they've won awards in advance anyway why not have a British showcase where the winners perform - it would be done under 90 minutes. Bin off the comedy rubbish, get a straight-presenter (Scott Mills or a aging pop/rock star who can treat it with reverence), move it to a weekend.

I'm not against the gender neutral awards, but the 8-10 nominations for half the awards are far too many.

They should play more with performances - like the Grammys do: tributes, unexpected pairings, old songs out of nowhere etc... Ed and BMTH were pretty fresh on paper but the performance was lame. They at least tried!
Only the Song of the Year awards had 15 nominations, all the other categories had 5.

Anyway, finished watching it. Dave is getting into a bit of a habit of steeling the show isn't he? An absolute stand out performance (and he's not really my type of music tbh) on a night where many artists seemed to be phoning it in/going through the motions.

Bit late watching this.

Adele looked so not bothered about winning, like it was a huge effort to be arsed to go up and accept her award. Seems completely ungrateful to me.

Best thing about the whole show was Sam Fender - wish he had won more!

they all know what their going to win... like Olivia wouldn't have travelled to the UK to sit at an award show she didn't win.. it's all label politics.
