Just been thinking about how Olivia Dean has made her UK top 100, and now UK top 40, debut with a Christmas song and thought how this seems like quite an uncommon thing to do! I've had a look back through the chart histories of all the current top 40 Christmas songs plus a few others and the only examples I could find were Band Aid (lol x), the Harlem Community Choir (lol x) and Darlene Love (who, interestingly, has only charted twice - both with Christmas songs!).

I was wondering how many examples we can think of, I'm curious who the most interesting examples might be! One off the top of my head is Matt Terry, whose X Factor winning single was the Ed Sheeran-penned When Christmas Comes Around. Depending on how you classify the John Lewis advert tracks, I suppose cases could be made for Gabrielle Aplin and AURORA

Yup I mentioned her in post 1, that was her first and her only other top 40 hit is Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) a few years ago!

Ladbaby we only see him at Christmas

If restricting to Top 40 debut songs which have Christmas in the title, other than Matt Terry, the only example I can find who went on to have at least one more Top 40 hit at another time of the year was The Goodies - very much a novelty act. Jane McDonald made her singles chart debut with a Christmas medley, but despite several hit albums after that, never made the singles chart again.
None of whom had Christmas songs

LadBaby’s ‘We Built This City’ does have this line :magic:

“I’ve done this for my missus

‘cause she loves Christmas songs (Christmas songs)

Oh what more could she wish for

(Yes Mate!)

Than a sausage roll singalong?”

Is jive bunny one

That was their 3rd hit after Swing The Mood and That's What I Like

These are the ones who had more than one Top 40 hit:

Mantovani - White Christmas

Beverley Sisters - I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus

Harry Simeone Chorale - Little Drummer Boy

Nina & Frederick - Mary's Boy Child

Goodies - Father Christmas Do Not Touch Me

Chris Hill - Renta Santa

Santa Claus & The Christmas Trees - Singalong-A-Santa

Band Aid - Do They Know It's Christmas

Aled Jones - Walking In The Air

Darlene Love - All Alone At Christmas

Matt Terry - When Christmas Comes Around

What aboit Davina McCall and Patsy Kensit on the Bo Selecta version of I've Got You Babe. Do they count?
What was Band Aid’s other hit?

There have been 4 different versions chart so technically 4 separate singles. One of those grey areas people will have their own opinions on so I put included it anyway and let the individual decide for themselves whether it counts or not.

They've not had any further Top 40 hits.

Darlene Love had previously charted in the 60's as part of The Crystals.

The Jingle Belles only hit in 1983 was Xmas spectre

All were under different names though (Band Aid II, 20 etc).

My first thought was “who the hell is Olivia Dean?”. Then I googled and it all made sense. Alexa Dean would be more appropriate!

actually it's not 1 act 4 songs, it's the other way around, 4 different acts (Band Aid, Band Aid ii, Band Aid 20, Band Aid 30) same song
Yeah four different acts, but the same song. Effectively all four “Band Aids” are one hit wonders
