This song is really not good.

It's a shame as I really liked 'Bad Habits', 'Visiting Hours' and 'Shivers' and felt like he was winning me back around but this is back to what I really don't enjoy about him - cringeworthy, cheesy, saccharine, lyrics that sound like they were written by a 7-year-old. Bleugh.

its an interesting one because it feels like taylor hasn't been much of a streaming force, but 'All Too Well' did really well, and with limited promo - 'message in a bottle' seems to have a life of it's own.

This is pants… but hey, it is essentially the 6th single from a successful campaign. I don’t think it will smash just because of who’s on it either.
Don’t think this was the best choice for a single even with the Taylor remix. ‘First Times’ sound more like a hit out of the ballads on the album so probably would have been the better choice. Giving he filmed a video for ‘2step’ I imagine that will be pushed in time for summer.

This has to be the most boring song he’s released. Very odd choice of single in my opinion.

If by 'a life of its own' you mean it's charting on the Hot 100 on basically only radio airplay... :P

And I know you could fall for a thousand kings

And hearts that could give you a diamond ring

When I fold, you see the best in me

The joker and the queen

Such profound lyricism

I'd love to hear how he describes the Ace of Spades.

isn't it ironic, like Alanis would say, that he won songwriter of the year at the Brits and then releases this... :)

I wonder how much difference it would’ve made if he released this a week earlier than he did then performed it with Taylor at the BRITS.

I don’t actually think this is that bad a song their voices go together quite well but I think the impact of having Taylor perform at the BRITs would’ve really worked even if it was just via a link like when P!nk and Rag N Bone Man performed last year.

I'm generally a fan of a lot of his singles but there's always at least one absolute turd he releases each era and this is certainly this era's one.
i personally think this song is beautiful

I really like it too! The lyrics are no worse than most of the big pop girls ballad efforts either!

I liked this song when I first heard it and listened to it a lot the first few days, but then I quickly got bored of it.

Taylor not having a credit for this song is pretty lame and I’ve lost any interest that was left in the song since I realised that. I’d say a lot of other Taylor fans would have too.

Expecting a big drop for this song next week.

I think it is a beautiful song. The amount of people who are criticising the lyrics as being cheesy or naff but then stanning other artists amazing songs with similar cheesy lyrics is quite funny to see.

I think the difference is, these songs you may be referring to are perhaps knowingly cheesy. This is actually trying to be serious.

Ed also received a songwriter award at the BRITs. Let's discuss this subject when the other cheesy pop stars get those because they won't.
