This is fine, but it really isn't anything they've not done before and much better. Sadly, they're just not a band I'm rushing to hear new music from anymore unless there's a major sound change.

Still my best ever live concert experience though.

What older stuff from them are people saying this sounds like? Unless I'm forgetting something obvious I feel like this actually is quite a different sound from them? I certainly can't immediately think of another Muse song that's as heavy as this one!

Agreeing with the general consensus that the chorus is much better than the verses but I think on the whole this is the most I've enjoyed a Muse song for quite a while, shame it's not going to be making the top 40 after initially looking like it had a chance.

“Won’t Stand Down” charted at #56 today, just behind 2015’s ‘Psycho’ which got to #55. But it has easily out peaked anything from Simulation Theory.

There's a few chords that feel like a callback to the types of melodies they were doing on Absolution (the 'stronger/longer' lines instantly make me think of nearly every song from that album), and some of the heavier stuff is reminscent of parts of Black Holes, but this heavy, probably not something they've done quite to this level before, it's a pleasant change of direction from them.

Shame it didn't go further chart-wise but this is encouraging for the upcoming era.

I'll wait until we get the song but that premise sounds worryingly like they're about to go into full on anti-vax/anti-"woke"/conspiracy mode yikes. hopefully not but I don't know their politics and whatnot.

Won't Stand Down remains great anyhow so hopefully that's not a one off for the era and we get disappointments from here on.

Those were my initial thoughts too. Though so so many of their songs in the last 10 years have also had a 'rising against the oppressor' theme, so hopefully not!
August... I was expecting May. I guess there's another song coming after 'Compliance' before the album release.

Completely different to 'Won't Stand Down'! A lot of people will be disappointed by that, but I think it's really really solid - very Daft Punk-y.

It is a shame that it's so long until the album though, I thought it would be out before they headline IOW in June. I just hope they don't release too many singles before it.

I like it, very poppy tbh but I really like it on 1st listen

but wait, album out Aug 26th? really? still a 6 month wait? really really hate this long pre-album campaigns with a 9-month rollout, makes no sense

No one really talking about this then. I wasn't expecting pop-Muse so soon after the return of rock-Muse but I really like it!
I do kind of have to consciously avoid thinking about the lyrics on this one but the actual tune of it is still solid.
The tried and trusted Muse formula. It's bound to work now and again and I think it works in Compliance. It could have come from any of their albums since 2006.
I thought Compliance was crap if I'm honest

Agreed. Among the worst I’ve heard from them

Their social commentary has gone downhill over the years (though I normally do appreciate them trying to tackle it rather than not), this time it's a very lazy lyrical message and it's below par musically, sad after 'Won't Stand Down' was so great.
