looks like the Bruno climb was a Sunday effect and is already down on Spotify/Apple

but hard to tell what's gonna happen come Friday cos we don't know how it's doing on Amazon, maybe it's #1 by miles and we don't know

On its 4th day of release 'After Hours' was down to 3 songs in the top 20 ('Blinding Lights' at #1 obviously, and the other two at #14 and #18, so not that far ahead of 'Dawn FM' currently having its second and third songs at #21 and #23). 7 in the top 30 and 11 in the top 40 vs. 'Dawn FM' having 6 and 9 respectively. That's really not a particularly significant decline considering this album did not have a massive hit single before release like 'After Hours' did. I guess it maybe feels like The Weeknd 'should' be a bigger streaming force overall than he is considering that he has been capable of having absolutely massive singles but in the context of how well his last album actually did I'd say this album is still doing pretty well for itself.

 

I have now finally heard 'We Don't Talk About Bruno' and honestly I'm kind of down for it being a future #1, it does have a bit of a 'lacking context' factor to it but the production and melodies are strong enough that it's good fun anyway. And definitely miles better than say 'Let It Go' as far as Disney songs go xx (I kind of wish it was 'The Family Madrigal' instead being the big breakout song though as that's my favourite of the 3 that have charted on first listen, that was my unshakeable earworm of the day lol)

I'm only just getting over thinking it's about Bruno Tonioli every time I see the name lmao. (Appropriate enough because it sounds like the kind of song that could easily pop up on Strictly tbh :lol:)

I would argue ‘Take My Breath’ is a huge hit pre album release. Also, after a huge hit like BL from the last era I would have thought this would have led to a cumulative effect of his sales increasing in terms of this album release which is normally the case but The Weeknd is one of them artists that seems to go against the grain in this effect.

So here for this to be a massive hit. Has a bit of an Apollo 440 vibe. Much better than most generic recent dance covers.

'Take My Breath' was a reasonably big hit but not even in the same universe as 'Blinding Lights'.
There aren’t many hits in the same universe as ‘Blinding Lights’ this century though x

Hence why it was fairly obvious 'Dawn FM' wasn't likely to be as big an era xx

 

I don't really know how to feel about this 'Down Under' remake, I think the hook sounds pretty good over drum n bass production but not quite as sure about the verses - overall it just seems like one of the more baffling songs to be successfully revived by a dance remake but the original is a bit of a classic so I'm not opposed to it being back in the chart in some form :lol:

Aside: while Bruno Mars himself doesn't have a new single (unless you still count anything off the Silk Sonic album as new), I have just discovered that the rising hit 'TO THE MOON' by Jnr Choi is another song that samples Bruno's 'Talking To The Moon' so he did sort of have a new hit in last week's top 100. It's the second charting song in the span of less than 3 months which uses that sample following 'WFM' by RealestK which got to #65 in October. Both TikTok hits of course.
Tbh if you look at Take My Breath's Spotify stats you see a rapid exodus from a lot of charts after months of relative stability, suggesting that playlists were keeping it up but it wasn't really sticking. Someone who merely heard a song a bunch 4 months ago is probably not going to rush to its accompanying album on impulse.

We Don't Talk About Bruno has returned to the Amazon Music chart - at #1.

 

No sign of Surface Pressure or any other Encanto songs though.

The Weeknd dropped a deluxe version of the album!! No new songs but with remixes, the Take my Breathe remix is incredible!

I had the feeling Bruno had to be #1 on Amazon!

Assuming this is the Alternate world version you’re talking about? Moth to a flame has been added as the last track on this version of the album and that isn’t on the original so great to see it added

And as we all know the release of a new version with a few bonus tracks means the original album no longer exists x
