but she's gonna be out of the list from next week already and we'll have a new 1?

for some reason I thought she was gonna still be #1 for a while cos she was miles ahead and gradually drop as she'd lose defending points

but just read she's gonna be starred out from the next update and I guess Swiatek is gonna be the next #1

Barty retiring is a bit of a surprise but perfectly reasonable given how much she's achieved at such a young age. Hopefully she's able to find a new career which she enjoys!

Has she? I think she could achieve much more, I mean, thought she got just 3 Gram Slams...

Really sad to see her go, the ones fighting for #1 are so terrible. Just look at Miami, Sabalenka lost in her first match against Begu (world #70),

Sakkari who just hit #3 lost easily 4-6,6-1,6-2 with some terrible Brazilian player (world #62), Kontaveit also lost first match against Li (world #65) after winning the first set 6-0 etcetc

The state of the women's seeds in Miami, half of them losing their first match  Surely shocking even by WTA standards
The seeds are and always will be a joke but on the plus side we get stories like Raducanu coming from nowhere to win a Slam so no Serena Williams type dominator isn't necessarily bad for the game.

sure unpredictability is nice, more than anything it's surprising to me, like Sakkari in Miami

she just got to #3 in the world, her best ever, she should be invigorated by that and full of confidence

then she plays Miami and loses first day with some Brazilian no one's heard before

the one that has been playing awfully later is Medvedev, since he got to #1 he's played the worst I've ever seen him

yesterday he was awful and lost rightfully

was nice to see Osaka play well again

Yeah but that's understandable re Medvedev as all Russian sportspeople's are now automatically pariahs unfortunately so his confidence will be shot to pieces.

Guess you're right, in that sense, Azarenka announced she's stepping down for a while

Zverev and Tsitsipas have been playing awful lately too

Carlos Alcaraz claimed the first Masters 1,000 title of his career as he beat Norway's Casper Ruud to become the youngest winner of the Miami Open.

The 18-year-old Spaniard, ranked 16 in the world, and Ruud were both playing in their first Masters 1,000 final.

Alcaraz overcame a slow start to win 7-5 6-4 against the world number eight.

He is the third-youngest winner of a Masters 1,000 title after compatriot Rafael Nadal and the USA's Michael Chang.

Great to see Cam Norrie manage to go top 10, not sure he'll be there for long with Alcaraz hot on his heels but hopefully he can manage some deeper runs at the slams

I didn't think Iga was overly impressive during the Indian Wells final but three Masters events in a row is, guess she is a worthy successor to Barty

Norrie needs a quarter final or two at Grand Slams - I can see him doing it as long as he avoids certain players!

Alcaraz played like a champion al thru Miami, really deserves top 10 soon

Swiatek has really played well for the last weeks, so sure she deserves it now,

as expected Sabalenka and Pliskova out pretty fast from Charleston

Norrie Top 10 is good to see, well deserved. Alcaraz not far behind at all but hopefully Norrie will be able to stay in that part of the rankings over the next few months.
