Yeah, 1 billion is probably a lot to ask but I can see doing 700-750 million WW, which would be amazing result regardless!!!

Mm that's not great, considering the first one got well over 90, and that was with corona coming and security everywhere. Maybe the musical aspect put people off.

I just looked it up and they arw saying the pre sales figures for this were horrenfous and there is very little hype :/ This coulf actuwlly be a disaster. I thought this would be huge and a great platforn for LG7!!!! Not a Marveld-style flop. Sonething's gone wrong and I blame the musical aspect

It's got rerrible reviews, snd they all ssy the same thing: boring, plodding, and rhey criminally under and misuse Gaga!!!! Total misfire. Shite director.

The critic reviews are slightly worse than the first one (currently it's 63% to the firsts 69% on Rotten Tomatoes) however their debut scores should be more comparable as the 1st has over 600 reviews and this one just 40+ so far. From what I can see the first one debuted with 85% after 27 reviews and the new one debuted to 59% with 41 reviews (it's at 63% with 48 reviews now I think). It'll be interesting to see where it lands a couple of days before release/after the weekend of release. Iirc, the first one tanked in critic reviews upon general release, but that clearly didn't stop it become the monster hit it became.

 

If the reviews for this were better out of the gate, I don't see why a $1bn+ total for a follow up to a hugely successful film couldn't happen (after all, sequels *should* technically do better), but nowadays I think reviews (sadly) play a big part in the success of certain movies (like this one - horror and musicals (which are promoted as full on musicals - ala 'The Greatest Showman' etc..) are exceptions). $70m-$90m is less than I think it will get and I do think it'll open with over $100m+... it just needs strong word of mouth to prevent it from dropping massively the following weeks. Otherwise $700m-$800m is where this will end and that's somewhat disappointing for a follow up to a beloved (by audiences - 85% on RT for audience) $1bn+ grossing movie.

 

I loved the first a lot (need to rewatch actually) so I'm intrigued enough by a second. However, I don't think a sequel was needed so we'll see.
