I guess Im in the minority but prefer Get Up to Pump up the Jam

not crazy avout Informer, was he a one hit wonder?

I prefer Get Up as well, it’s a cracking dance tune.

I believe Snow was a one hit wonder. Reminds me of being in the 6th form at school :D

I think I prefer 'Get Up' too, although both are classics for me. I guess PUTJ is just a bit too overplayed.

Love Snow, fairly novelty but what a jam. And of course that genius album title.

36 - TLC - No Scrubs

16th best seller of 1999

Chart Run

7-13-8-6-9-3-5-5-9-12-12-16-22-29-37-37-44-60-69

Despite all the yoyo-ing No Scrubs' sales actually increased for the first 6 weeks.

The rap is a thing of wonder from the magical and much missed Lisa Left-Eye Lopes.

No Scrubs is just an amazing song!

35 - Youssou N'Dour featuring Neneh Cherry - 7 Seconds

16th best seller of 1994

The very definition of a grower. I remember following this poignant and intriguing song from its entry at 40 right up to the top 3.

Its ascent was finally blocked by Kylie's Confide in Me (what a pair of songs  ) and Love is All Around.

It was the 4th most played song of 1994 radio.

It is.

It came out on the same day as Aphex Twin's Windlowlicker and System F's Out of the Blue. Three tracks at the peak of their respective genres.

34 - Extreme - More Than Words

16th best seller of 1991

Chart Run

8-2-2-3-4-7-11-15-26-34-54

With one of the shortest chart runs in this rundown, it was selling enough at number 2 to be number 1 in many other weeks of 1991.

Bryan Adamns' (Everything I Do) I do it For You blocked its path to the top.

1994 features in this rundown more than any other year and here's its next persistent entry - a staggering 14 weeks between positions 5 and 12. ohmy.gif

I'm sure you already have your opinions on this track but I loved it at the time.

It became the biggest selling single of the 90s no not reach the top 3 for a period.

This is the only song in the top 50 to get stuck in 5th position in the weekly charts. The songs that kept it there?

Doop - Doop, Bruce Springsteen - Streets of Philadelphia, D:Ream - Ur the Best Thing and a song from further up this chart.

7 Seconds is brilliant, Set You Free good, as is Janet & Luther - it was on radio 2 this morning and is a regular 90's playlisted track where none of the others in the latest batch are. Diana Ross suffers from the Westlife re-tread of what was a dull biggie. Extreme is still lovely, TLC a classic. The others are more disposable to my ears..

7 Seconds is all kinds of amazing, the combination of Youssou N'Dour and Neneh Cherry is perfection <3

I read recently the title refers to the first 7 seconds in one's life

thats a very short run for More than Words, don't mind the song but don't love it either

Edited by Bjork

Didn't realise 7 Seconds had such a slow climb there, funny how it got stuck a couple of times on the way up, even falling back in its third week. I guess at various points it probably looked as if it was going no further and then started to accelerate again. It is indeed a classic track, so it's good it didn't stop getting support after it faltered at No.36 or No.24 for the second week.

31 - Bryan Adams - Please Forgive Me

15th best seller of 1993

Chart Run

3-2-2-2-3-4-7-9-11-11-11-25-40-56-65-69

I really don't recall this song being big and listening to it now, I still can't figure out its popularity. Perhaps he was still just a huge star and that drew the masses to the tills.

I really liked Please Forgive Me back then, I think it was a pretty big single, think it was the first new song since the Waking up the Neighbours era

30 - Roxette - It Must Have Been Love

14th best seller of 1990

Chart Run

38-21-6-4-3-3-5-6-7-10-18-28-43-64

Not a band short of decent songs, this was their best seller and the only one two reach any End of Year Top 40. It was unlucky not hit hit number 1 in its second week at number 3. Elton's Sacrifice and a song further up this chart stood in the way.

I love this.

Another ballad that I have a soft spot for and a slow burner too.

Its bid for the top was thwarted by a combination of the ABBA-esque EP, Mariah's I'll Be There and Nick Berry's Heartbeat.

28 - Salt-N-Pepa - Let's Talk About Sex

14th best seller of 1991

Chart Run

24-13-7-3-2-2-4-8-9-14-21-45-74

Summer 1991 was awash with song titles containing the word sex or derivatives. I can't say I'm a fan of any of them.

Bryan Adams struck again - keeping this at number 2 for a fortnight.

It Must've been love is a classic, too bad it missed #1, the ones blocking it from the top were not really that great

Always had a soft spot for Hazard too

Used to like Salt N Pepa and Push it is one of the best singles of the 80s but Let's talk about it was rather silly and disappointing for me
