The original is what I meant by "the song itself" Although MJ Cole is a dance act, classifying the original version as dance would be a bit of a stretch. April 28, 20232 yr #1 on iTunes we love to see itttttt. Great support for I Feel Love everywhere too. Hoping Radio 1 support this one...it's PERFECT for them and arguably the biggest single on the album.
April 29, 20232 yr Is she talking about Ireland here? UK wise she should be set for top 5 right and then with the Kings Coronation she shouldn’t actually drop too drastically for week two compared to most 2023 releases.
April 29, 20232 yr Is she talking about Ireland here? UK wise she should be set for top 5 right and then with the Kings Coronation she shouldn’t actually drop too drastically for week two compared to most 2023 releases. I doubt she cares much about the Irish chart? She’s got the early mid update for the UK charts I’m guessing however I wouldn’t be surprised if there is data missing as no way she will miss the charts. None of the physicals are in the Top 100 Amazon best sellers so it’s certainly not being snapped up by the GP however it’s still at #2 on iTunes.
April 30, 20232 yr I was so surprised when I saw the video, I think she’s been given an early number and it isn’t what she had hoped. Surely the album will chart at least too 40 so not sure what was meant by probably won’t chart. I’m still hoping for top 10. Edited April 30, 20232 yr by Karma
April 30, 20232 yr Bless her, I’m shocked if it’s set to flop. The lead single did fine despite Radio 1 mysteriously snubbing it so if this isn’t in the running for the charts at all I’d be super surprised. I got the CD the other day in Asda and they weren’t even stocking any of the other new releases, just Freya and the new Now albums. I guess when you’ve had a debut single become a million seller top ten hit then you maybe get used to success a bit and create your own pressure, and others create pressure on you, to follow that up. But four years was a long gap between albums, the UK music industry has never been good at supporting British female singer/songwriters as they move past their debut album. So with that considered, Weekends did well even if it deserved significantly more based on the song itself. I’ve not actually listened to the album yet but will do soon. It also feels like this album was moved forward a week to not clash with Ed, and instead she’s run right into this crazy chart battle on the most stacked week for releases so far this year. I guess maybe the label were aiming for a No.1 at some point but things have gone astray since the scheduling, due to the lacklustre streaming support for Weekends, the Radio 1 snub, one of the pre-album songs was even tagged on Spotify for a few days as Freya Riding and didn’t come up on her artist page and maybe missed out on Release Radar for some fans because of that. April 30, 20232 yr She will definitely be Top 10, if not Top 5. How definite is this? Because if this was the case she wouldn’t have posted that video? Is it likely that the first set of figures were just missing a lot of data? As they will be happy with top 10 I am very sure. Top 5 would be ideal.

April 30, 20232 yr Missing data does seem to be the likely explanation. iTunes #1 doesn't mean all that much, download sales can be rather low. Her physical sales on Amazon also seem weak for some reason. Currently the unknown factors regarding her physical sales are: her official online store, HMV, any other stores i.e. independents. I still think it's likely to be a misunderstanding, and that she may not have the deep knowledge of charts and sales data reports to realise that it's more likely the case that something is afoot with the data than her seriously missing out on the charts altogether. Though her record label really ought to have appeased her before letting her get upset and believe that she's going to miss the charts. I feel like it would be highly difficult to miss the chart entirely these days. She was so upset and that did strike me as being genuine, I truly think she is under the impression that she's completely bombed. If it proves to be the case on Monday that her position is actually decent enough, then I'm sure she can save face by spinning it as being a reversal in fortunes. I will say that she seems to struggle to have much of a presence with her promotion or media interest. No one reported on her Instagram story, for instance, and you'd think that could be worth a story. I can think of so many artists where if they'd posted a video like that there probably would have been articles up within 5 minutes of it happening.
