After voting for all of 41st-45th I so far haven't voted for any of the songs revealed from the top 40 oops :kink:

'The Way' has grown on me a fair amount over the years but still never been a huge fave. 'safety net' and 'my hair' are both around the middle of my ranking of 'positions'.

safety net  Certainly the strongest album track from positions and would have made a great single.

The Way was the first Ari song I heard too and the nostalgia is why I gave it a few points. It was the only 'Yours Truly' track that I voted for as I think she's only got better since then.

36. everytime (80 points)

35. 34+35 (84 points)

everytime’ is the highest placed album track from sweetener and for good reason. If the quick release of tun meant that the potential for a further single from sweetener was squandered, then it’s definitely this track that ended up missing out. While a majority of the album was produced by Pharrell, pop legend Max Martin did co-produce (with Ilya) 3 tracks for the project, the lead single (ntltc), the 40 second intro (raac) and this trap-pop ballad with an earworm of a chorus. The song is concise with it running under 3 minutes but it packs a lot into the short time and there’s not a wasted second. Lyrically, the song focuses on her imperfect relationship with Mac Miller and how her infatuation keeps leading her back. Everytime picked up points from Julian (28), myself (17), Cremey (15), kath (9), Jade (8) and Nick F1 (3).

At 35 (sans the 34) is ‘34+35’. The 2nd single from positions, the song peaked at #2 in the US and #3 in the U.K. after the Doja Cat & Megan Thee Stallion remix was released. However, despite it being eligible, nobody decided to give the remix any points in this LoveChart with all the points being awarded to the original version. Anyone who was good at maths class will know exactly what this song is about from the title and if anyone didn’t from the (slightly) cryptic title, you certainly would from the lyrics with some of the most unsubtle, over-the-top (albeit less aggressive) sexual lyrics since WAP (4.5 when I make the bed shake, Just gimme them babies). In a similar vein to Jhené Aiko’s ‘P*$$y Fairy’, Ari’s heavenly, pristine vocals mixed with the explicit lyrics just give this song another layer and makes the song stand out all the more. Despite it being firmly tongue-in-cheek, this is still one of Ari’s sexiest songs with a perfect video to boot. She hasn’t always been known for her dancing ability, but the choreography that leads to her split is hot and her portrayal of an Ausin Powers themed fembot is the exquisite culmination of the slightly ironic but sexy tone of the song. It was in my top 10 and picked up 31 points from myself, others in favour were Nick F1 who awarded it 27 points, kath who awarded 19 points and …ready for it who awarded it 7.

I totally agree that 'everytime' seemed like the most appropriate single #4 candidate from 'sweetener'. That singles run was perfect as it was but I also wouldn't have been mad to see that added to her canon of releases too, beautiful song. How neat that '34+35' landed at 35 :kink: oops at the remix not getting anything here - I prefer that to the original!
I didn't vote for any of those but 'better off' was very close to making it!

'Popular Song' was the first Ariana song I ever charted :cheeseblock:

Popular song is awesome. Can’t believe didn’t know it existed until recently.

Edit: plus I’ve loved Mika and Wicked for years. So what a combo.

41. in my head (75 points)[/b]

I’m enjoying this song from Thank u, Next

Would have given this points had I heard it earlier. Love her voice against the background sounds.

Only listened to this song tonight - definitely agree this was a missed single opportunity. On my fifth listen. I’ve always liked Max Martin productions and it certainly feels like one.

34. Piano (85 points)

33. Break Your Heart Right Back (feat. Childish Gambino) (94 points)

Kicking off today's results is the last song standing from Yours Truly! Yes, with 85 points, Piano has outlasted even the singles from Ari's debut album. We have never had a Yours Truly rate in the forum before (although next year seems like a pretty good idea for the 10th anniversary...) so its popularity here is a fresh insight for us. 'Piano' is a joyful sonic moment on the record with its hand-claps and celebratory chorus - with the encouraging "I wanna see you rock to the piano" lyric rounding it off. In general she appears to be battling whether to write a soulful song about love and heartbreak (which is understandable, when she dated three of the collaborators on this album - Big Sean ('Right There'), Mac Miller ('The Way') and Nathan Sykes ('Almost Is Never Enough') or a more uplifting pop banger that the radio would be all over. The lyricism is pretty to-the-point really and Ariana would develop it a lot more over time. It's a cute moment nevertheless and seems like a natural progression from something like 'Put Your Hearts Up' - dialling down the bubblegum pop execution but having a Disney-esque spirit to it all the same. The voting pool for 'Piano' included myself, ...ready for it, JulianaGrande and Lunar - two 30+ scores (from ...ready for it and Lunar) propped it up quite a bit.

Now we jump from the debut to Ariana's sophomore record and it's another album track. Taken from My Everything we have Childish Gambino collaboration Break Your Heart Right Back. I had the honour of seeing this live as recently as 2019, five years after release, as Ariana still included it on the 'Sweetener World Tour' setlist. 'Break Your Heart Right Back' is about Ariana being cheated on by her boyfriend with another guy. Childish Gambino drops hints to the back-story in his part when he spells out: "Yes I'm G, from the A, and they ask why". On Ariana's first live album 'k bye for now (swt live)' Ariana retorts "oh, he's gay?" in response to that line. The track also interpolates LGBTQ+ anthem 'I'm Coming Out' by Diana Ross. Ari's own lyrical content is quite venomous as you would expect from the title. She is not pleased with the situation, obviously, so is waiting for karma to do its thing. It's wrapped up in pretty slick production and has a hooky highlight of the album with the repeated "my baby loves me" line. The 'I'm Coming Out' usage works surprisingly well too when it easily could've been a misfire. Ari would later work with Childish Gambino again in 2020 to return the favour for a song called 'Time', although under his name Donald Glover for that occasion. The points are jumping up now, with 9 more than 'Piano' here. They came from: myself, Highausakite, JulianaGrande, Kath and LewisGT - with Haus being its biggest fan, as 30 points came from him.

All of these songs dropping out are absolute faves. I listen to 'everytime' just as much as the singles from 'sweetener', totally single-worthy. 'Break Your Heart Right Back' was my favourite album track from 'My Everything' after it's release and when I finally got around to listening to 'Yours Truly' in full for the first time, I was searching for that real upbeat pop moment to change the tone and it comes at the perfect moment.

32. Moonlight (98 points)

31. Don't Call Me Angel (with Miley Cyrus & Lana Del Rey) (101 points)

The song that was originally intended as the title track is the gorgeous romantic ballad 'Moonlight' which opens the 'Dangerous Woman' album and has wedding first dance song splashed all over it. It is our last track below 100 points, just shy of 2 points. Point's came from an impressive number of us: London (30), Cremey (22), myself (21), Lunar (11), Highausakite (8), Jade (6).

Our first track to reach the 100 points mark is the Max Martin produced mega-collab 'Don't Call Me Angel'. The song was used as the lead single from the 'Charlie's Angels (2019)' soundtrack. Ariana performs alongside Miley Cyrus, whilst Lana Del Ray takes on the bridge. The track was released during Ariana's 'overexposure' stage of her career where she seemed to be dropping tracks left, right and center. The track came in a #13 on Billboard and only just missed #1 on the UK Charts, coming in at a (still impressive) #2, missing out to Ed Sheeran & Stormy's 'Take Me Back To London'. It didn't stick around for long though, only managing 9 weeks on the chart. It went on to achieve a 'Silver' cert with over 200,000 chart sales. It was also certified 'Gold' in Australia and Canada, though failed to make much of an impact anywhere else. Points came from a slightly smaller number of generous voters: Riser (29), Brer (29), kath (26), Nick F1 (10), Lewis (7).

Break Your Heart Right Back is such a fun track. Great use of the sample and the Gambino verse is solid.

Don't Call Me Angel is good but was overshadowed by everything else at the time. I recently watched the 'Charlie's Angels' movie and found it surprisingly good.

I still need to watch the 'Charlie's Angels' film - flop fan  I have listened to the soundtrack several times though at least! I loved 'Don't Call Me Angel' when it first came out but I think that appreciation peaked quite early, I do still like it though. 'Moonlight' is a beautiful album opener!

Finally another song I actually voted for, I know it's not exactly one of her more acclaimed songs but I still think 'Don't Call Me Angel' is a bop. Happy it has got over 100 points.

'Moonlight' is a lovely song too, that was one that I relistened to ahead of voting although fell just short of my votes.

30. Sometimes (115 points)

29. bloodline (123 points)

Two album tracks in this section starting off with Dangerous Woman’s 'Sometimes'. Despite appearing at #10 of 15 on the edition of the album most of us will be used to, Sometimes isn't officially included on the standard version of the album. I don’t think I personally realised how popular this is on the site, especially with it only finishing at 13th in our Dangerous Woman rate last year, as I wasn’t expecting it anywhere near this high. The standout moment in the song has got to be the wonderfully lush bridge that concludes with “Hard to breathe when you're not here” before transitioning into one final chorus where some powerful high-pitched background vocals are added to end on a real high (note). I’ve always felt the clumsy track-listing of having this follow a track called ‘Everyday’ always meant that it doesn’t stand out as much as it could but others obviously disagreed as it really managed to score big with all its voters; gaining 25 from Jade, 24 from both kath and Lunar, 23 from Liam.k. & 19 from Brer.

At #29 we have ‘bloodline’, an album track from thank u, next that really seemed to become a bit of an instant fan-favourite. However, it’s one where the hype completely passed me by as I would rank it near the bottom from that album. That’s not to say that I think it’s a bad song, it’s just that the standard of the album is so high. The song has had to do endure numerous comparisons to ‘Side to Side’ with many people thinking this had post-album single written all over it. Alas, it wasn’t to be as the era was over as fast as it began with the day-and-date release of the album and the 3rd single buwygib being the untimely final release from the album. The track opens with a snippet of Ari’s grandmother Marjorie talking about a hearing aid but cut in a way to hint at something else entirely and set up perfectly the brash tone of the track. bloodline fans include Nick F1 (31), Julian (30), Liam.k. (25), Riser (21), Cremey (10) and HausofGucci (6).

Very pleased to see 'Sometimes' in the top 30  especially after its pretty poor performance in the Dangerous Woman rate as you mentioned. Gorgeous song!

'Sometimes' would be a huge highlight on any of the other albums and I still love it where it is.

I'm definately on team "Bloodline should have been a single". That album is so strong she really could have dropped any. But I'm also a 'Side to Side' lover so it's only natural that I love it's successor.

I have kept struggling to remember what song 'Sometimes' is before (the generic title probably doesn't help) but I think it is finally sticking in my memory now after revisiting it to vote in this :kink: a good tune.

Never been a fan of 'bloodline', it is very much just 'Side To Side' part 2 for me really, not keen on that sound from her. The robbed should-have-been-a-single from that era was definitely 'bad idea' for me so happy to see that has finished higher here.

28. Dance To This (with Troye Sivan) (137 points)

27. Knew Better/Forever Boy (145 points)

Starting off today's duo is Dance To This from summer 2018! This is a much-loved Ari feature from Australian singer Troye Sivan's sophomore album Bloom. Rewind back to this year and Ariana was dropping both the sweetener and thank u, next albums. Well, she also fit in features (with Nicki Minaj's 'Bed' also being released around the same time) to her busy schedule, like the superwoman she is. Troye's own words when hyping up Ari as the feature mirror those of a lot of stans, as he said: "Yes! The rumours are true! [Ariana] is my pop queen and I can't wait for you guys to hear our song." Sivan also revealed that he was nervous to ask Ariana to appear on the song but she instantly loved it, phew. The two conjured up electro-pop bliss - with their voices sounding like they were meant to be on a record together. Ari effortlessly glides across those beats. The gist of the single is when you feel like you've been to enough house parties and events in life by now - and having fun staying in is actually what you're craving at the minute. Honestly, my introvert ways can relate a lot of the time. The music video is simple but effective - as the two command the screen with some natural, goofy dancing, as people gradually leave the room - but it comes off as very charming and watchable. This song sadly only peaked at #64 in the U.K. which is a travesty! If only it had been released a little later down the line - as Troye achieved a couple of chart smashes just a few months later alongside Charli XCX ('1999') and Lauv ('i'm so tired'). Ari tends to have a habit of working with people just before they've properly hit the mainstream, see The Weeknd with 'Love Me Harder' too. This is a very impressive showing for a feature that was merely a minor hit anyway! Its points came from myself, Brer, Cremey, Haus, Lunar and Riser. Haus was the biggest 'Dance To This' fan of the lot - with it receiving as many as +37 of his points!

Next up at #27 we have another pretty lush offering from Ariana - this time an album track from one of her own records. This is Knew Better/Forever Boy taken from her hugely popular third studio album Dangerous Woman. The song definitely feels like a cooling down moment on the track list after following a certain synth beast ('Touch It') and proceeding the emotional 'Thinking Bout You'. It's a track of two halves as we're introduced to 'Knew Better' first, which is a reflection of a relationship that has recently ended (largely speculated to be about big Sean). This is Ariana's personal favourite of the two halves. This then mellows out into the more hopeful 'Forever Boy' section, as she now moves on to talking about her current relationship at the time, which would've been about Ricky Alvarez. He didn't quite turn out to be her "forever boy" but at least their time together was inspiration for a well-loved album track. This is the first time Ariana has ever combined two songs into one after not wanting to sacrifice either of them. She also treated fans to 'Knew Better Part Two' - an extended version of the first half - after posting it to SoundCloud later down the line. The production behind 'Knew Better / Forever Boy' is courtesy of Mr. Franks & TBHits - the latter would go on to also produce Ari smash hits 'thank u, next' and '7 rings'. The longest track on Dangerous Woman has a plethora of fans, with its 145 points tally coming from the votes of myself, Cremey, Haus, Julian, Kath and Lewis. Once again, Haus was the biggest fan, providing it with 33 points.

Knew Better / Forever Boy has grown on me so much over the years.

The transition between each part is so smooth! Forever Boy is my favourite of the two parts.

26. Santa Tell Me (164 points)

25. ghostin (165 points)

The certified Christmas Classic 'Santa Tell Me' is yet to reach the top 10 in the UK charts, but we are confident it will do it at some point, it reached a new peak of #11 during Christmas 2020, falling just short a #13 Christmas just passed. A massive 9 of us gave it points. Riser was it's highest scorer awarding 32 points. ...ready for it, Lunar, Nick, Jade, Highausakite, Brer, Liam and myself all awarded it points.

The gorgeous emotional ballad 'ghostin' is a real highlight from the 'thank u, next' album. Ariana is yet to perform the track live due to it's emotionally triggering and highly personal nature. She revealed in an interview that the process of recording the track "sucked" and that she really didn't want it to be on the album, but was encouraged by her manager Scooter Braun. We are thankful it was included as it made our top 25 favourite Ariana songs. Liam gave it top marks, awarding all 40 points, Jade put it in her top 5, scoring 36 points whilst ...ready for it, Cremey, Lewis, Lunar and myself gave it good scores, Brer kept it from drawing with 'Santa Tell Me' by awarding it a single point.

Oh I adore 'ghostin' so much  the heart-felt lyrics, just the right amount of power in her voice, the haunting strings... so close to being my favourite Ari album track. It would be such a moment live but I completely understand why performing that would be too difficult for her.

Fingers crossed that 'Santa Tell Me' does reach the top 10 one day! Love how it is part of the annual festive canon now nevertheless.
