Can’t believe Greedy has finished so low! When I listened to it for the first time last summer (AF rate), I was obsessed with it for the second half of 2021. It’s a masterclass. Really surprised it’s not more well loved!

Side to Side (feat. Nicki Minaj) (204 points)

Surprised to see this one so high.

Despite (usually) being one of Buzzjack's least liked singles, the summery reggae-fusion tune 'Side to Side' was chosen as Dangerous Woman's third single and went on to become the most successful, not just from the whole campaign but of all of the singles she had released at that stage of her career in 2016 (that's if we exclude Bang Bang). Although the song sold millions of copies worldwide, it only reached #1 in Venezuela and on Greece's digital chart. We are sure had it been released pre-album it would have been a different story. It did manage a top 5 peak in both the US and UK reaching #4 on both charts, a very impressive feat in the streaming-era for a post-album single release. It's success was aided by a truly ICONic music video, still Ariana's most viewed to date, with just on the verge of 2 billion views at the time of writing.

It appears that the track has gained a little popularity of late as Buzzjack members have been rather generous.

....ready for it (+36), Nick (+35), Riser (+30), Liam (+28), I gave it (+26), Lewis (+16), Lunar (+14), kath (+12), Highausakite (+7)

Well we've got what I'm pretty sure were the 2 worst remaining songs gone in the last 2 slots, hooray! I think I must have voted for most of what's left now.

The music video for 'Side To Side' is iconic of course but the song has always been pretty bad.

The choreography with the exercise bikes that was then used in the performances of Side To Side on the DWT was brilliant. The whole video is iconic and very deserving of being her most viewed.

pov (215 points)

The third and final single from the positions album, ‘pov’ just misses out on our top 15 leaving the title track as the only remaining song from her latest album. pov is an R&B ballad about her now husband Dalton Gomez. The lyrics describe how Dalton loves her for herself even when she doesn’t and wishing that she could see herself in the same way that he does. It’s quite an emotionally raw track with Ari opening up about her perceived flaws and how she’s learning to love again after her previous experiences with love. After 34+35, this felt like the smart choice for the next single with it already making some impact on TikTok and feeling like a refreshing change of pace after two poppier, upbeat records. It might have had it’s official video eventually cancelled but that didn’t stop it making an impact in charts all around the world, most notably peaking at #27 in the Billboard Chart and #19 in the UK. It was the first video for the Vevo Live Performances we got last year and is still the most viewed of the bunch.

It wasn’t quite anyone’s absolute favourite but pov still managed to receive high points from a lot of voters. Lunar is the biggest fan awarding it +35 while it also appeared in Nick F1 (+33), …ready for it (+31), Julian (+27), HausofGucci (+25), Brer (+25), Riser (+23) and Cremey’s (+16) charts.

bad idea (223 points)

Kicking off the top 15 is the album track bad idea! This is taken from Ariana's super successful and critically acclaimed 5th studio album thank u, next. It has come out on top as the highest placing album track from this record - beating out huge social media fan favourite 'in my head', much-loved tear-jerker 'ghostin', essentially 'Side to Side' part 2 'bloodline' and concert-chant favourite 'NASA'. The three singles from the era are still to come. A lot of fans (me included!) thought that the album could've easily stretched way further than 3 singles, with 'bad idea' definitely standing out as a single #4 contender. Perhaps with a radio edit, as brilliant as the extended instrumental outro is. 'thank u, next' is a massively personal album and this song is no different as Ariana continues to let us into her mind. At this point of the record Ariana clearly states that she needs to "numb the pain", as she's in a negative state of mind about herself and her relationship history up to this point. She thinks up a "bad idea" to block out that pain, which she knows she'll likely regret, but she goes ahead with her plan anyway and calls a mystery lover over. It's a stark contrast to the following album 'positions' where Ari is in a really happy place with her love life. This theme is accompanied by energetic trap production which was very on trend for 2019. But there's a lot more to it, with a striking opening riff and a slamming of the breaks into more of an orchestral sound later on too. The accessible pop melodies and Ariana's enunciation of the title also prove to be memorable components. It's easy to see why this is such a popular album track really. This had a pretty big voting pool, with: myself, Brer, Cremey, Haus, Julian, Kath, LewisGT, Liam, Lunar and Nick F1 including it in our lists. Brer unfortunately loses his +39 pointer although his top favourite is still in the game. We now have 3 album tracks left fighting for the honour of highest in the LoveChart!

I’m happy to see Bad Idea as the top album track from tun. Such a great track and would have worked great as a single if it cut the outro.

Catching up and amazing to see 'pov' so high!

Elsewhere my big favourites are: Dance To This, Knew Better/Forever Boy and Just A Little Bit Of Your Heart <3 all incredible.

I heard "pov" at a wine farm yesterday and it sounded quite lush in that environment :)

Certainly sounds like an environment I'd like to be in. B-)

break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored (233 points)

Probably Ariana at her "baddest", 'break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored' (often stylized as 'buwyg,ib' because that title is longer than this bracket.) was released as the third and unfortunately final single, alongside parent album 'thank u, next'. Another Max Martin, Ilya concoction, upon release it left fans divided, however it collected acclaim from music critics and went on to hit #1 in no less than 8 countries. It was blocked from the top spot in Ariana's home country by.... herself. B-) In the UK she managed to topple her own super-smash '7 rings', scoring her fifth #1 single in said region. She became the first female artist to replace herself at number one on the chart and only the second female artist to occupy the top two spots on the chart since Madonna in 1985. I really believe the album could have gone on to break many more records had she kept releasing singles from it.

'buwyg,ib' is one of those songs that has been very slow to gain my affection but it's certainly getting there, I didn't give it any points this time, however I can see it sneaking up there. Buzzjack loves it enough to provide it a comfortable top 15 position. Big points came from the likes of Nick (who rates it in his top 5), kath, Jade, Cremey, Lewis, Riser, Lunar and Brer.

I was obsessed with buwygim at the time but it's probably the single from the album I go back to the least now. Still bangs though!

thank u, next (235 points)

Making it three tracks from the album in a row, title-track 'thank u, next' drops out at unlucky #13 leaving 7 rings as our last remaining competitor flying the flag for ‘tun’. Released late on the Saturday night of 3rd November 2018, hot on the heels of the ‘sweetener’ album, I don’t think anyone was ever imagining that this was resonate in the way it did. But, despite the close proximity to the previous album and the unconventional release, this still managed to break records left, right and centre, breaking the Worldwide Spotify record for a female a couple of times and bagging Ari her first #1 single in the UK since her introductory double-header of Problem and Bang Bang in 2014 and even more notably, her long-awaited first ever chart-topper in her home country. It’s impossible to underplay the importance of this single to her career as the #1s have not stopped flowing in since.

A song this big deserves a big video and Ari wasted no time in teasing that it was re-create famous scenes from four classic teen romcoms from the early 2000’s: Bring It On, Legally Blonde, 13 Going On 13 and Mean Girls. The hype to see Ari portray Regina George was obviously high as the video broke the record for the most opening day views and became the fastest video to reach 100 million views at the time.

Lyrically, the song is about self-empowerment and learning to be by yourself after a relationship and not about some woman called Aubrey unless your Apple Music. The song gained a lot of press at the time due to the drama of it being released in ‘retaliation’ to Pete Davidson’s SNL promo video after their break-up and for her direct references to her previous relationships with Big Sean, Ricky Alvarez, Pete and Mac Miller. Despite the controversy, the song is a very mature way to discuss what she learned from her past without resorting to anything disrespectful or personal.

Three people placed thank u next in their top Ariana top 10 with Cremey awarding it it’s highest score (+35) and myself and London awarding it +33. Despite being one of her most iconic and signature hits, most people ranked it towards the middle of their votes, including Lunar (+26), Riser (+25), …ready for it (+23), Julian (+20), HausofGucci (+16), kath (+13) and Nick F1 (+11).

'break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored' is by far my favourite of the singles from 'thank u, next' (a very good album overall but I don't think the singles represent its quality that well), expected it'd be the lowest of the three by a much larger margin though so quite happy with its performance here! And great to see 'bad idea' winning the prestigious honour of being the highest non-'Dangerous Woman' album track *.* (wow at there still being 3 album tracks from that yet to come though! all well deserved). 'pov' is fab as well, was already one of my faves from 'positions' right off the bat but it just got better over time, shame it never did quite turn into a massive hit as I thought it had the potential to (and boo at the music video never happening).

I loved Thank U, Next a lot. It was the first solo Ariana song I played over and over on release.

Such a great message as well. In many ways, this song seemed like it was the one which really catapulted her forwards.

Couldn't quite fit 'thank u, next' into my votes but I definitely appreciate its lyrical maturity and it brings back tour memories of it being the closer *.*

Thinking Bout You (242 points)

Finishing just 11 points away from the top 10 is Thinking Bout You! It is the closing track on Ari's third studio album Dangerous Woman which still boasts another 3 songs left in this countdown. A deluxe edition of the record including 'Step On Up' and 'Jason's Song (Gave It Away)' was finally added to streaming in recent years, however, I think most would agree that Thinking Bout You feels like the one and only grand finale for this special album. 'Knew Better / Forever Boy' slows down the tempo as track #14 and 'Thinking Bout You' follows on smoothly, as the emotional ender. You know you're in for a heart-tugging experience when the opening lines are: "I've been thinking about you, I've been missing you". Although, Ari then switches to a more concerned "where the hell are you?" so her spectrum of emotions is laid out bare. The meaning is certainly up for interpretation but it seems like she was going through tough separation periods in a relationship with conflicting, busy schedules. "At least I have the memory" feels like such a universal line no matter who you're missing - a partner, friend, family member, pet etc. It's a really powerful song and a bit of a comfort blanket at the same time. Ariana sells it vocally too, with a wonderfully paced mix of both soft and yearning approaches to the delivery. The production takes on a life of its own towards the end, after the aforementioned "but at least I have the memory..." line is sang for a final time. The synths are so dreamy. It's easy to see why 'Thinking Bout You' is such a popular song amongst Ariana fans.

The Dangerous Woman era mostly consisted of uptempo single choices so this could have been an interesting pick to break it up a bit. Alas, it gets that fan favourite album track status instead. It finished 3rd in the Dangerous Woman album rate, so has fallen one spot comparatively, but it performed extremely well here nevertheless. myself, Brer, Cremey, Haus, Julian, Kath, Lewis, Liam, London and Lunar all pointed this. Haus was its biggest fan as he gave 'Thinking Bout You' his top +40 points!
