Maybe they could've got someone like Miguel instead of R Kelly to feature on it?
omg Miguel would have SLAYED in that song, also he was a rising star in 2013 after Adorn and Power Trip so it would have worked well for both parties

Yep, #Beautiful was that year too! Ugh, this has made me really wish he did it so we could still replay DWUW and stream the shit out of it :'(

Aww now I also wish a Lady Gaga/Miguel duet had been a thing!!
I have done some research. Here are the climbs that the following singles made on the week + week after their videos were released in the US:

Telephone: 14-12-11 (+2, +1)

Alejandro: 6-6-7 (+0, -1)

The Edge of Glory: 8-7-6 (+1, +1)

You & I: *made a re-entry* at 96

Marry the Night: *made a re-entry* at 97

I am genuinely curious as to how you think Do What U Want's video would have DEFINITELY 100% made it a #1 when there is no evidence to suggest that the music videos for singles previous made any sort of dent that way? I can probably do the same for the UK and there would be similarly climbs of ~2 positions there..

Then research better, because none of this data is true.

Telephone rose from #9 to #3 after the release of its video:

Lady Gaga and Beyonce dial up the biggest mover within the top 10 as “Telephone” soars 9-3.

The Edge Of Glory held onto #6 after the release of its disastrous video:

Lady Gaga‘s “The Edge of Glory” – featuring a sax solo from the late Clarence Clemons – bullets at No. 6 for a second consecutive week on the Hot 100.

www.billboard.com/music/music-news/katy-perrys-friday-flies-up-hot-100-adele-still-no-1-470092/amp/

However, the video was released on a Thursday night and only had 3 days of counting until the end of the tracking week, an unusual move for her as she always released her videos on Mondays or Tuesdays, and this would have happened again if she hadn't scrapped the original video for that song, fired Khan and rushed to release that hastily amateur video. Even with a $5 video, it made the song hold at #6 for the next three weeks.

Alejandro rose from #7 to #5, reaching its peak after the release of its video:

Lady Gaga‘s “Alejandro” reaches a new high point, advancing 7-5.

You and I climbed over 60 positions on the Hot 100 after the release of its video, rising from #96 to #35:

Lady Gaga boasts the Hot 100’s Digital Gainer award, as “You and I” flies 96-35. Following the premiere of its video Aug. 16

Marry The Night jumped nearly 30 spots after the release of its video, jumping from #59 to #32:

Lady Gaga's "Marry The Night" vaults from #59 to #32 in its fourth week.

See? All of her videos (except that $5 video) have either made her songs explode on the charts or made them peak. That said, at no point did I say that the DWUW video would make the song hit #1 right away, I did say the song would hit #1, period, I didn't say when, but it would definitely happen in, at most, 3 weeks after the video was released.

However, my intuition and my chart experience tells me that this video would, in fact, shoot the song straight to #1 on the Hot 100, controversy would be inevitable and the video would go viral, the demand for this song was huge, her "Wrecking Ball" moment.

Would’ve Kanye West worked on Do What U Want?

They were gearing up for their joint tour together so there was crossover in the early days but it all fell through. Not sure he would've worked on DWUW, but gutted we never saw a collab between them anyway.

Thanks, I forgot about the failed tour. It would’ve been a great chance to get a collab,

The only ones that would work on that song besides R. Kelly would be Usher or The Weeknd.

1st single: Gypsy - hear me out. This song is the TEOG of the album. It is a glorious pop song that is made to be heard globally - the chants of all the different countries immediately makes it radio friendly in these markets. It also represents a change of pace from the previous album but with a softer touch and not drastically shifting the pace. It's a huge pop song, with a catchy chorus and could've had a great video with Gaga around the world.

2nd single: Do What U Want feat Miguel - I can't get over this concept, how perfect would it have been. The song was huge despite not having a music video and could've continued to mature into a streaming favourite over the years if it wasn't tarnished and eventually removed. A music video that played on the media portrayal of Gaga and aesthetics along the line of Taylor's Reputation album making it controversial but at the same time appealing and vulnerable.

Promo single: Aura + Dope - One shows the manic side of the album and sets out the production choices that will follow through a lot of the album, the other shows how deeply painful the album's lyrics are. We know Dope was a big promo single in its first week so I wouldn't change that. It's one of her best ballads!

*album release*

3rd single: Applause - Keep the music video the same and get a post-album radio smash even if it is FARRRR from my favourite on the album. Also move it to the start of the album, not the final track - that deserves to be Gypsy!

4th single: G.U.Y. - A much shorter music video, forget the ARTPOP film concept and just have the shorter version of the GUY video. It would be coming off the back of 3 radio friendly singles so could've got more support that it did.

5th single: Sexxx Dreams - POTENTIALLY. Either release this with no f***s given or keep it as an album track, I am undecided on whether it would work. Maybe a radio edit version "last night, damn you were in my ~bad~ dreams"? idk. Either have it as a risky 5th single with nothing to lose, or not depending on how G.U.Y. performed. If it didn't get a release, it'd still be an iconic album track which sometimes works more in its favour?

Hear you out?? But we've all been sayin the exact same thing!! Gypsy FIRST. By FAR the best song on the album, and a career high. It was originally planned to be the first single, till the label got involved. Clueless, just like with In The Zone!! Axe wounds, the lot!

Omg THIS!!!

Gypsy has cringy lyrics (especially at the end) and she screams so much in the song, it wouldn't make any noise on the radio.

Lyrics like GLOBAL smash radio and GLOBAL chart hit La La La La La (La Lover) by Fergie??

To London, Jamaica, then France

The whole damn world took effect to Ferg

Get in with the business

When I come from Kansas City

Hit Manila till it's Christmas

Out to India I'll visit

Puerto Rico is exquisite

Bring my people back to Venice

L.A. got the people saying (la la la la la)

Moscow saying (la la la la la)

España (la la la la la)

Kingston saying (la la la la la)

San Diego saying (la la la la la)

Chi town saying (la la la la la)

Germany saying (la la la la la)

La Puente saying (la la la la la)

IBIZAAAAA

Fergie SCREAMS her lyrics btw ;)

Sure sure, because radio listeners would want to listen/would memorize Gaga reciting the whole world map

Russia, UK, Paris, I'm

Italian, Asian, Kompai

Africa, India, I'm

A gypsy, gypsy, gypsy, I'm

Latin American, I don't speak German but I try

Someday in Jakarta, I'm

American, I'm gypsy, I

Bangkok, Australia, Malaysia

Sweden, Finland, Norway

Be my home just for the day

I'm a gypsy, gypsy, gypsy, hey

I've overheard your theory, "Nostalgia's for geeks"

I guess sir, if you say so, some of us just like to read

One second I'm a Koons then, suddenly the Koons is me

Pop culture was in art, now art's in pop culture, in me

Ok? :naomi:
