And that leaves us with 1 - Ottawan - D.I.S.C.O. mJpymZpk-t8 5th best seller of 1980 Chart Run 66-28-8-3-2-2-2-3-10-21-27-34-52-65-74-73-73-72 A fine song if you take away the crowd-participation-like vocals. Being, as it is, a product of Daft Punk's ancestry, an instrumental version of it could have been released any time since 2001 and been a credible hit. An unremarkable chart run hides the fact that it was only held off number 1 by the year's biggest seller - The Police's Don't Stand So Close To Me.

August 21, 20223 yr I knew D.I.S.C.O. had a few weeks at #2 and #3 but wouldn't have expected it to come out on top here! 1980 was clearly a good year for sales without ridiculously long chart runs. Thanks for this Colm!

Definitely didn't expect D.I.S.C.O to be at #1, as someone who wasn't around when it was released I don't feel it's been a particularly enduring classic, personally i'd say it's 'just fine' as a song but it was clearly very unlucky to miss out on #1.
