How would they say who they are without mentioning Elaine? As soon as she is mentioned, we’d know why they’re joining. The Carter extension ten years ago was announced in advance so I don’t see why this getting the same treatment is a big deal.

"A new family is heading to Albert Square. Find out more on BBC1 and iPlayer, Monday to Thursday."

Picture of the family... and the speculation begins, which gets people talking about the programme.

It's not a big deal though. As I said, it's not a major plotline.

I just think it's a shame when the producers give away too much. Like the Lola storyline. Did we need to know what was going to happen to her and how before she had even received her diagnosis. How much more of a jaw-drop moment would it have been if we hadn't already known?

Like the Zack HIV diagnosis or what was going to happen to Whitney's baby. I didn't know anything about those before I saw it on screen and it was much stronger.

So EastEnders announces a new family and gives away a plot spoiler at the same time.

I know it's not a big plotline, but surely there was a way to reveal this family but not say who they are, how they arrive and what they're going to do when they get there?

One thing they can't do re-decorate the Vic, until the Xmas scene is revealed

I'm loving the more mature Sam. Long may it continue.

In regards to tonight's episode -

was is it with everybody on the square having a secret wife?!

Nugget reaching new levels of God-awful "acting" in tonight's episode.

I’d almost forgotten Bailey existed and tbh despite that brief one scene I almost forgot again by the end of the episode.

Pearl, however, definitely needs as much screen time as possible.

You wouldn't be blamed for forgetting about Bailey, this was her first appearance since December 23rd.

Mack and Mia haven't been seen since December 19th!

I love how Bailey’s last story was her going missing and like now would we even notice?

I guess the actor has had exams and stuff but it’s still odd.

Who is Bailey? Are they are relation of Kim's?

And who is Pearl?

(Sorry, still relatively new to EastEnders)

Bailey is Mitch’s daughter, being raised by him and Karen.

On a similiar note, have Karen’s youngest two sons been retconned out of existence?? I vaguely remember a throwaway line about them going to live with their dad but has anyone mentioned them since?

Bernie's overacting had me howling at the start of tonight's episode

And who is Pearl?

Kim's daughter. Her dad was Vincent who was played by Richard Blackwood.

As for Chatham and Riley, they're definitely still with their dad. Karen will occasionally mention them but only in passing

Thanks about Pearl and Bailey.

There are so many characters that suddenly pop up and I sit there without a clue

I was shook. Whoever gave her that direction really misjudged her character? It seemed really really odd

I'm sure Bobby's a lovely lad but my GOD, that acting when Jean was sat comforting him... :manson: :drama:

The whole thing was just so bizarre and unnecessarily over the top. Mitch scrambling around looking like an idiot also didn't help!

I’m uncomfortable with the Freddie storyline. I hate it when teacher=bully. I’m not saying it never happens but it’s awfully rare and actually in modern times, it’s more likely to be the other way around.

There's got to be more to that storyline than it randomly coming up yesterday and then him confronting the teacher today. I've said it before but I do think Freddie has undiagnosed ADHD and it does feel like that is what they're hinting at here.

Also today was the first time I saw potential in Nugget as a character. Sometimes the teens are terrible but they have genuinely developed this group over the past 6 months or so and he was the last one to be really given anything for him to do

So was Jack joking when he told Amy it was time to find out if she’ll be an auntie or an uncle or was it horrendous writing? Couldn’t quite make it out.

Sam is just one of the best characters, I’d like to see her get a break for once.

I think it was a joke, which Jack just didn't pull off.

I wonder what they've done with Vinnie's tracksuits. Talk about a Glow Up!!

Is Sam actually leaving? This is the second time she's mentioned going back to Spain. Absolutely loving the dynamic between her and Honey though. Sam has had some good interactions lately.
