My goodness, the one week I can’t watch due to being on a residential with school, seems it’s all happening! Will be binging this week’s episodes tonight!
Well after tonight's further reveal, it's just screaming for a

Masood return. Doesn't he still own the Panesars house? I have no idea why they have businesses, flats and houses under their ownership but they don't actually own the house they reside in but at least that's way for him to come back if ever

Nice that Jane is in a relationship with Masood and that but I’d soon have Zainab back!

Lovely scenes between Jane and Bobby again, I liked Bobby apologising for injuring Jane as well as Jane telling Bobby to forgive himself.

Glad to have a little bit of backstory to how Ian and Cindy reunited. Cindy just calling Ian up out of nowhere is such a Cindy thing to do.

Brilliant episodes. Bobby’s stint has been so successful and the only thing missing until this week was interaction with Jane and, along with Cindy’s scenes, they absolutely nailed it. By the time Jane and old Bobby exited, the show was in a complete state, almost bizarre how odd it all was. Jane and Bobby in particular were huge casualties of that and Jane’s exit never made any sense and she was barely mentioned for years which was ridiculous given how impactful her character was. Bobby has been brilliantly portrayed since the recast and become a proper character rather than some loony child killer and his scenes with Jane were the icing on the cake. Jane herself will be truly redeemed here too, thank you so much Chris Clenshaw!

And clearly we’ll be seeing a Masood return which I hope would lead to a Zainab one. With the other news in this thread and the murmurs that we’ll be seeing returns for the 40th, I can’t help but feel they’ll get some big name comebacks over the next year. It reminds me of when Neighbours dragged itself back up into a good place and could then literally get any character to return. Eastenders has come so far in the last two years.

Completely agree with all this. It was never explained why Jane stayed away from the square after everything Max had done was exposed at Christmas 2017, we kinda had to fill in the blanks ourselves. I recall Jane ringing Ian in January 2018 but Ian hung up because Mel had just walked into the cafe, that's about it. It's been the elephant in the room for so long and I'm really happy it's been tied up with some really poignant scenes. I'm sure this isn't the last we'll see of Jane but, if it was, I'd be satisfied with what we've got.

Completely agree with everything in your post.

Janes exit was awful and like you said made no sense but that time really was the start of the show going from bad to worse, everything was literally all over the place and thankfully Chris Clenshaw saved the day and has somehow successfully managed to help rectify this. I do like how Chris really seems to have studied the show and has such a great understanding of the characters as in a very short period he has managed to undo many of the wrongs the show inflicted on us in the few years prior to him taking over.

For anyone who hasn't seen the mini-series on socials this week to accompany Anna's story, someone has combined them together. It's difficult to piece together the time jumps in the daily TV episodes as a lot of what happened aired online (be prepared for cringe Felix and Bobby though)

Didn't Jane leave because she was twrrified of weak Msx for some reason?!

Yes, he had his revenge plan to get back at the Beales for putting him in the frame for Lucy's murder. Jane found out and it eventually boiled into him making her leave... It's all a bit naff looking back on it

It was all rewritten from what I remember. Jane was going to be killed off in the disaster week-it looked like that was where it was headed and it would have made sense at the time. But around this time John Yorke took over quite abruptly and changed the story so that Jane would live and Steven would be killed. Also axing Lauren and Abi at the time whose story probably would have played out differently if Steven had survived. I’m pretty sure all of this is why Steven had a terrible funeral and a non reaction to his death from Ian. It also explains why Jane’s exit felt rushed and made little sense. Her never coming back didn’t sit right whereas had she died, it would have been understandable. I’m glad she didn’t die but that whole era was just completely bonkers.

I hated abi but she's a character they could easily have written out and brought back recasted at some point where she'd be new and improved. Stephen I didn't really care about dying but it would have been awful if it had been Jane.

I'd love to see a Christian and Syed comeback as well (and Zainab ofc), maybe the door is open for that with Jane and Massood still being linked.

What is the point in Junior may I ask? The stuff with him and Cindy is insufferable.

Highlight of Thursday's episode was clearly

"Congratulations E-Laine!"

"...it's Elaine."

I'm expecting a Junior/ Lauren and Cindy love triangle but I think they should try and build him more into George's family unit instead.
