Which other artists do you think they are trying to strike a licensing deal with? I’d like to believe an agreement can be reached with Pet Shop Boys for some of the yearbooks and maybe some other less featured artists like David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Madonna, Bee Gees, Phil Collins, Erasure and others.

I’m not too sure about Erasure being omitted as they appeared on the re-release of Now 14 but we’ll know when Now 16 gets re-released if they appear. I’m all for 90s yearbooks but 1990 or 1991 should’ve come first as there’d be a lot of missing Now hits as only 64 songs made a numbered Now in 1990 and 69 songs made a numbered Now in 1991. And as for summer Nows, if Now 118 gets released next year on 26th July, it will mean that the summer Nows are being released on the last Friday in July from now on

As I think I mentioned earlier in the thread, Erasure will appear on Now 16, but I don’t think they’ll appear on any of the Yearbooks.

Erasure and Pet Shop Boys I believe both have an agreement that they’re happy to feature on reissues of products originally released in the 80s, but don’t want to appear on new retrospective compilations covering the 80s and 90s. This doesn’t apply to their side projects, i.e. Electronic for Neil Tennant, and all of the hits for other artists (Dusty Springfield, Liza Minelli, Eighth Wonder) that PSB wrote and produced in the 80s.

Maybe their arms could be twisted - both appeared on Now Pride last year along with Madonna - but it’s been a long time since I’ve seen PSB on a UK 80s compilation. Curiously a remix/original version of West End Girls featured on German release Bravo Hits 80s Party last year, not sure if it’s on a different label due to the remix.

It’s odd that Erasure and PSB still appear on the re-releases despite not appearing on any yearbook or other compilation. And as for the millennium editions, I don’t think they’ll do an extra 2000-2001; they’ll more likely go straight to 2002-2003. When they get to that one, I hope they put AIP on there instead of Evergreen as the latter is the b side and the former never appears

Some really good stuff on here, and some random stuff. Seems they didn't miss any No.1s on the main edition that they didn't have the rights to. Shame Boyz II Men aren't on either and that Erasure didn't want to be part of these.

The Kylie singles, I Found Heaven by Take That, Darlene Love's Christmas song, Nick Berry! Can't see my playing Disc 2 much but 1 and 3 look pretty interesting. Tetris and A Trip To Trumpton <3

I’d rather they put Barcelona on 1987 instead. Seeing as it’s on 1992, I hope they don’t put it on any of the 1987 yearbooks. Nice to see Darlene Love’s Christmas song on there which is never on any compilations and I reckon it could appear on the next Now Christmas. Here’s the link for Now Yearbook Extra 1992 and it’s released on 18th August https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0CBLD4533/

Fingers crossed that 1987 is the next yearbook without Barcelona on any of them. Too many non top 40 hits on this one and loads of missing hits

There's songs on that that I do not remember - even now.

Also, take it for granted that I am disappointed with sequencing of any yearbook. They just don't care very much for it any more.

I'm new to these yearbooks but is there a reason why big hits appear on the "extra" release while there are duplicate artists on the main edition?

Barcelona, Too Much Love Will Kill You, Don't You Want Me, Shake Your Head, Heartbeat, My Girl were all significant hits.

Is it because they want to retain some hits for the "extra" edition?

All it does is dilute the main release.

I don’t know for sure but I suspect it’s also the cost implication. Licensing 80 big hits on an £11 CD probably isn’t as profitable for them as licensing 50 big hits and 30 I guess cheaper to license smaller hits, plus there’s also the dangling carrot of many of the missing hits on a second £9/£10 CD, which I would guess makes both products profitable.

I’ve not yet listened to the Now Yearbook 92, although I received it this week, but this comment on a Facebook group I follow is concerning me about what to expect…

I wish they'd stick to the single versions on the Yearbooks. For a while they seemed to be doing that pretty consistently, but Now Yearbook 1992 is all over the place in comparison...

Simple Minds - Love Song - is not the 1992 single remix, but the original 1981 single version

2 Unlimited - Twilight Zone - not sure where this mix is from but it's not the UK single version

KWS - Please Don't Go - listed as the 77 Sunshine Edit (which was the name of the single version) but on the Yearbook, the song has a different structure and has a "cold" end rather than a fade out

Paula Abdul - Vibeology - I don't know where this edit is from, but it's about a minute shorter than the single version

Shakespears Sister - Stay - is the album mix rather than the single mix

And if I want to get really nitpicky... 🤓😂

CeCe Peniston - Finally - is the 1991 edit rather than the 1992 edit

En Vogue - My Lovin' - is a shorter edit than the single by about 20 seconds

Charles & Eddie - Would I Lie to You? - is a slightly shorter edit than the single

Deacon Blue - Your Town - this is a European promo edit that's about 30 seconds shorter than the single (but at least it's labelled correctly)

Chris Rea - Nothing to Fear - is not the single edit (but at least it's labelled correctly as being a 2001 version)

Is this all verifiable?

Richie Anderson is on Radio 2 this morning and picked the Now Yearbook 1992 vinyl to play a song from and chose Rhythm Is A Dancer

Seeing as we got Tina Turner at the end of Now 115, it makes me wonder if we get Sinéad O'Connor at the end of Now 116 and as for Simple Minds, they should’ve include Love Song on Now 23 instead of Alive And Kicking

We probably will.

We probably will.

If we do, then we’ll see it again next Summer if Now 18 does get re-released. I’m surprised The Best was included for Now 115 seeing as we’re gonna see it again towards Christmas when Now 16 gets re-released

As much as I appreciate seeing vintage artists on current Now CD's, I don't want to return to the time when it was seen almost as entitlement that they only feature a major artist when they have died. I mean, I am a fan of Nothing Compares To You, but do I want to look back on this time in years to come and remember it as the time when Sinéad O'Connor passed away (or Tina Turner as in the case with the current volume). I don't really know how to feel about honouring artists by featuring them immediately after their death by placing them on compilation albums. By the same token, the new S Club single should also feature as a tribute to Paul who died, and those are just the high profile cases, there have been many other names that get less media attention when they go, does that mean they too are not worthy to be considered for such an honour? It is a sensitive subject I understand this, and I do not mean to cause debate or offence at such a delicate time as ones are grieving loss, but it is just a personal observation that almost as soon as an artist dies people expect and hope to see their music in the charts again or on a compilation, and it just feels wrong to me somehow.

I’m not too bothered about a tribute on new Nows when a star passes but I can easily see how it’s not something you’d truly want to remember happening at the time.

I just wish they’d try to go with tracks that haven’t appeared before. There was a chance on Now 115 to feature Proud Mary instead of The Best again. I know the latter charted highest this year but Nows don’t exactly have to follow the charts these days.

It’s be nice to see the new S Club track on Now 116 as a tribute to Paul but also as it’s a new song by the group. As for Sinead, her biggest UK hits have already made the Now series so I guess they’d be stuck for a tribute.
