No surprise really as long as the FA have a contingency plan in place to stop people congregating at Wembley Way. I don't think those scenes happen (the stadium rush) if there was not a pandemic and a half empty stadium. From a selfish perspective, I'd much rather we hosted the World Cup, but that looks an impossible job to get under the current leadership.
To be announced officially on April 7th, the four Home Nations plus Ireland have won the bid after it emerged no rival bids have been submitted by this Wednesday's deadline. Italy are also set to be announced as hosts for Euro 2032.
It literally IS coming home then?
Will many premier league grounds be hosting games or will it be the main host stadiums I wonder?

I do think the 20,000 empty seats played a massive part in that. There was always going to be space for people without tickets where there wouldn't be usually.

The World Cup is now one vote per FIFA country so they have completely changed it following recent awarding's of it. There will still be an element of politics to it with regions/continents likely to vote together. UEFA have said there's only to be one bid from Europe for each one so we'd have to win that first. I know for the next one Spain and Portugal were interested in a joint bid.

Would be great if all the Home Nations had at least one stadium for matches, although as it stands I don’t think any stadia in Northern Ireland is up to the mark - the closest is Windsor Park, but it’s fairly small by international standards and isn’t in the best Nick.

They hosted the Super Cup in august so I imagine it would be grand for one or two groups games! Unless Casement Park is ready by then which is unlikely!

The UK and Republic of Ireland football associations have submitted a joint expression of interest in staging the European Championships in 2028.

The five associations has previously considered seeking to stage the World Cup in 2030 and conducted a £2.8m feasibility study into a potential bid.

The 10 stadiums to be used in Germany 2024 are all above 40k capacity. The UK have got 16 football grounds that hit that though many in the same places so no chance they all get used.

There is talk of Euro 2028 being expanded further still to 32(!) teams so would need more stadia which could include some smaller ones, but Windsor Park is really small and I doubt anything of that capacity would get chosen.

If it were to be 12 you'd get something like 8 England and ideally one from each of the other four countries. The Millennium Stadium, Hampden Park and Aviva Stadium would be the three that made sense.

Most likely:

Wembley

Tottenham Stadium

Villa Park

Anfield (or new Everton stadium)

Hillsborough (or Elland Road)

Old Trafford (or Etihad)

St. James' Park

You'd definitely need another in the south but unsure whether you'd go for St. Mary's or a third London Ground (Emirates/London Stadium)

So contrary to the Mirror article it turns out that both Russia and Turkey have in fact declared interest before the deadline so it’s not such a foregone conclusion.

Russia's looks to be a publicity stunt (nowhere they would get awareded it now) and I just don't feel a bid from Turkey would be able to match a GB & Ireland bid.

UEFA has warned the officials behind the UK and Ireland's bid to host Euro 2028 that they are growing frustrated with their delay in signing off on certain guarantees.

The UK and Ireland have come together to form a joint bid for the future tournament, with Turkey their closest competitors in the race to stage it.

Though while Turkey has already agreed its guarantees ahead of the UEFA vote in September, The Times have revealed that Europe's governing body are still yet to hear back from the UK and Ireland over a number of issues.
