Did Hot Chocolate not get a top 10 hit every year right up to 1986?

No they scored 5 top 10 singles in the 80s (one was a remix of "You Sexy Thing" so only 4 original top tenners)- getting their last in 1983 (the remix aside in 87).

Coming Up by Paul McCartney is a good song.

Da Da Da by Trio was huge across Europe. Wiki has it at 18th place on their list of the all time best selling physical singles worldwide.

Awww really sorry no one else joined in my adoration for Da Da Da - (obviously) love that track!!!
The trend seems to be early 80's doing less well than late 80's inside the 100 so far.....
Yes, I think it was similar in the #1s rate. Only 4 songs left from 1980 already!

What does mean Da Da Da? :P

We all know the 1980-84 period was the best part of the decade!

We all know the 1980-84 period was the best part of the decade!

I don't think so. :teresa:

for me early 80s is the worst ever, 1980 is like 90% still 70s sounding

the last part of the decade is a million times better

I think the late 80s is just a continuation of what was put in place early in the decade with a whole lot more artists and bands jumping on board. Only difference was house music introduction to the mainstream. The early 80s were the origins!

You could also say that for any first year of a decade 1960 sounds like the 50s, 1970 still sounds like the 60s and 1990 sounds like the 80s. For example the 90s didn’t take off to what we remember them as until 1994 for me, doesn’t mean you can’t see the later changes if you don’t open your ears for example songs from 1990 started sounding more Brit pop for some artists but the market just wasn’t dominated with it by that stage.

I agree, early 80's was inspiring innovative and varied of genre but primarily synth music, ska, New wave, New Romantic, Rap, Dance, mid 80's was global Big Pop with massive stars like Madonna, Jacko, Prince, U2, Pet Shop Boys and late 80's was House, AOR Rock, Madchester/second summer of love, SAW, but there was a lot more manufactured pop in the latter part than the early DIY 80's where everyone had been inspired by Punk.

That said, everyone always loves their early and teen years over previous eras, so age range has a lot to do with favourite eras. I'm no different mid 60's late 60's and early 70's for me. And mid 70's late 70's early 80's mid 80's cos I took longer to grow up

Culture Club is fab, Macca's is fun, Trio is good natured as long as you dont hear it too often as it has a whiff of the novelty song about it...

So Kylie loses her first 80s No 2, this spent a month trying to get past Yazz unsuccessfully. Three left for her though.

NO 89- 31 POINTS

Wild Boys Duran Duran (Voter: Fiesta- 10 pts, Mack- 4 pts, Popchartfreak- 13 pts, Bjork- 4 pts)

(#2 for 1 week in November 1984 behind “I Feel For You” by Chaka Khan)

They’ve got 2 left in the rate but this is our least popular Duran Duran track in the vote.

Far too low for 'Kings Of The Wild Frontier' hopefully 'Antmusic' will fare quite a bit better. The burundi beat double-drumming is a riot as per with them *.*

I like Duran Duran in general and the music video is memorable but musically 'Wild Boys' has never been a favourite for me

I'm surprised some of the songs I voted for are still in and surprised by the ones that have gone out! Glad I kept McCartney from nil points.

I love Kylie but The Locomotion is clearly her weakest 80s number 2 single.

I'm pleased I didn't lose anything in the last 2 or 3 days.

Got to be Certain is Kylies worst #2
Adam is always fun but Antmusic is way better, Kylie is an all-time fave act for me but The Locomotion was just a bland pop copy of the great Little Eva/Carole King original. Even the Huge bloated US hit version by Grand Funk was better than her version. Wild Boys is a widescreen Wall Of Sound epic worth the price of admission just to see Simon get a dunking in the video in his Mad Max outfit. Duran are even more brilliant in 2022 than 1984 - see recent Tove Lo collab for proof. Seen all 3 in concert, Kylie's the best always a total SHOWGIRL, then Duran, then Adam.
