The quality of soaps has declined across the board and I hate that some storylines just scream "awards bait", but I do still have a soft spot for the BSA albeit completely for nostalgic reasons. I like watching the montage at the beginning and seeing who receives Lifetime Achievement Award. I'm guessing Chris Chittell (Eric Pollard) could receive it this year - he's the longest serving actor on Emmerdale and it's the show's 50th anniversary later this year - but I'd love to see Gillian Taylforth (Kathy Beale) receive it, which could also be likely given EastEnders will probably receive little to no awards elsewhere.

I imagine Coronation Street will easily take home Best Soap and, from what I have seen, is by far the most deserving.

I love Linda Henry but leading performance? Really?

I think it’s probably for her scenes of when she found out Tina was dead . I do think Toby Alexander who plays Gray should have maybe been nominated instead but I assume he’ll be in the Villain Of The Year category .

I just think she’s spent most of the year doing nothing at all and even though it was good, her reaction to Tina’s death was a carbon copy of her reaction to Heather’s death. There are many great actors in EE and it’s a shame they’ve been overlooked.

Also Carters for best family? Jesus.

The following have made the shortlist for Best Leading Performance

I feel like Eastenders have massively snubbed all of Gray’s storyline which is a shock particularly the final episode of him being caught which I think was brilliant . As much as I’ve loved all of Jean’s storyline it did just happen recently and I think could of been spread out a bit more evenly between the two .
Overall eastenders ruined the gray storyline, the ending was good but I felt they took away from what the storyline was originally about. Jeans storyline felt far more authentic.

The Gray storyline was awful but I have to say I really enjoyed his final week and I'd have had the last episode as Best Episode. It seemed well received on social media too but omitting anything to do with the story (bar having Gray as Villain of the Year) feels like an admission that the storyline didn't work and EastEnders don't have faith in submitting it for awards. The way that Jean's storyline has completely dominated coupled with the fact it was "Jean issue-led storyline #3 or #4" since the beginning of the Kate Oates era in 2019 (very much overkill) makes me think that this was a storyline brought in as awards-bait, knowing that nothing else would stand a chance at the ceremony this year.

I think maybe EastEnders will grab one award for the Jean storyline, maybe Best Partnership, but I suspect Corrie will dominate (and rightfully so; not been watching the show but have seen clips and read the spoilers and I think they're very deserving following the portrayal of the hate crime storyline).

The last few years, I've mostly been excited for Lifetime Achievement, and I'm hoping that'll go to Letitia Dean or Gillian Taylforth. I also wouldn't be surprised to see some sort of tribute to Bill Roache following his 90th birthday and, of course, there will be something for June Brown.

I can't help but feel EE's nominations were quite narrow? 5 categories were focused on Jean, and whilst I'm glad Gillian and Lacey won an award, it doesn't shine the best light on the soap's past year.
