30 points: Hello

Just for information really, although personally I think everything on more than 20 points could be spared (or maybe 10 :D ) also what happened to the one per artist rule re: Stevie?

I guess if we’re including Westlife as cheeky 1.5 later on we can do the same for Mr Wonder haha

Hah! Stick em in and let people make up their own mind. Richie has a lot of form for nauseating ballads and Stevie Wonder still knew perfectly well how to write a classic song in the 1980s. And also I Just Called a popular song. Ebony and Ivory is the awful one 😆

yes, let the people decide :D

I just listened to Hello and really liked it I have to say, I actually prefer it to Adele's Hello, which also has kinda silly lyrics with Hello, It's me... hello from the other side...

I also prefer Lionel’s to Adele’s, but maybe that’s because I was about to say Hello to the world when it was #1. ^_^
If IJCTSILY gets added then it becomes a different rate and you'd have to include Jennifer Rush, Bryan Adams, Whitney - IWALY, Celine Dion, etc. - these may not be to everyone's taste, but they are not objectively bad songs and they are still popular with large swathes of the general public - unlike, say, Robson & Jerome whom no one in their right mind listens to anymore.

Adding Céline and Whitney sounds like a great idea to me... :teresa:

I’m absolutely LOLing at Dandy making a huge stink to get Stevie included and then only giving it +10.
are we supposed to be voting now? :o

What format? Can I give 150 points to Nick Berry? :teresa:

Votes are open in the UK charts forum.

I did bear those results in mind when shortlisting actually, but of course it isn’t the full picture when 1 voter can give up to 30 points. Save Your Love in particular got all its 29 from one voter and was definitely right to include based on the early voting in the new rate.

This exercise was never going to be perfect and ultimately anything that isn’t that bad won’t qualify for the final. Have faith in the good people of Buzzjack. :)

Oh and there’s a much worse row to come potentially as there’s no doubt going to be a big push to include a certain song from 2019 that got more than 100 points in Gezza’s rate and was voted the best of that year. :(

think Dandy needs to re-do his votes :D a +30 for Stevie and a +1 for Lionel is the only acceptable score :D

^^ It's no problem, it was only a last ditch attempt to save the songs I gave points to in that rate :D let the people decide indeed.

I guess the song in 2019 is more the issue I was getting at, that is how can the best #1 from a year also be the worst of all time. I'm sure there are also plenty who would describe Happy, Perfect or even Bohemian Rhapsody as the "worst song ever" but there's clearly an element of hyperbole in that, linked to the fact that those songs are still so popular (outside of Buzzjack at least) in the first place.

I think the 2019 song is audio Marmite isn’t it? When it comes to the last heat, my personal view is to throw it in and if gets enough votes to make the final it’s obviously made it on merit (or lack or merit depending on how you look at it lol)

Yeah I’m already resigned to it going on. It doesn’t need me to fight its battles - it can dance its own way out. :)
Oh are you referring to Dance Monkey? If so, I think it’s one of the better number ones of the 2010s
I'm pretty sure my view on Dance Monkey is a minority on this forum, don't worry. (It's completely beyond me how that's the case but empirically it is)
Dance Monkey is a great record and Tones can sing, see fab new Macklemore track for evidence. Kids of 2019 will be loving Dance Monkey in 20 years time, they loved it at my brothers 60th do asking DJ to play it, and quite right too
