February 10Feb 10 Halfway through Series 3! Loving it so far! Some laugh out load moments. Also Julia's theme too  Edited February 10Feb 10 by ElectroBoy
February 10Feb 10 So I finished the binge and I think it was a step up from Series 2… which I did enjoy too but I think after Series 1 had a lot to live up to. This Series though was both funny and sad… episode 4 onwards though was more on the sad/ emotional side. I guess I should go spoilers for the next bit... Episode 5 I knew where things were heading and that was confirmed at the start of the final episode that in real life Danny did commit suicide and wasn’t got to in time. So what we get here is the alternative… which I think works. What happened in real life is addressed and the scene between Danny and older Jack says everything and I guess means that the series doesn’t end on a completely down note. Katy Wix is oddly the star of the last episode – I was kind of geared up for me crying/ being upset by the final episode but instead it was very different. Also Alison Hammond cameo as well! I think overall a pretty much perfect end to the series – the last episode could’ve been very different, but then I think the series would’ve ended on a bit of a down note had Danny’s suicide played out and the last episode was the aftermath of it. Jon Pointing was great throughout, he does the comedy and emotion so well. But I think its Shannon and Peggy that steal a lot of the scenes. Also Annette Badland gets some very funny one-liners too. But very funny and its so good with its cultural references as well. Its a shame that its the last series, but I think it does tie things up and I think there wasn't really anywhere else for things to go. Edited February 10Feb 10 by ElectroBoy
February 10Feb 10 Watched this all yesterday and today, absolutely brilliant. So emotional and touching but never lost the comedy, I couldn’t have asked for a better ending personally. I knew what was coming due to reading Jack’s book even before the TV show aired, and I could see it coming as the episodes went on with everything falling apart for Danny but what a gut punch. Such a powerful portrayal of and statement on mental health and grief. I loved that ended on that what if “perfect” moment, it felt so powerful and bittersweet.
February 15Feb 15 Yeh loved this - kinda emotional how everyone goes their own way after uni, some never to be seen again!
February 15Feb 15 Can anyone tell me what the brilliant song was on episode 6 when they were buying ice creams?
February 16Feb 16 Author Binge watched the whole of the series on Thursday night. Just magnificent. Like many, given the real life context of Jack's story, I had been fully building myself up for it to be Danny dying by suicide. So the ending in that respect was a real surprise. And I get completely why he made that choice when writing it. It's a brilliantly written and acted bit of telly, moving yet joyful in equal parts, and the decision to incorporate Katy Wix's character Jules into bringing Danny back from Margate was inspired. Jon Pointing himself has really made the role of Danny his own and the way he has bought both the humour but the depth and gravitas to the role is just. He basically deserves all the awards and I suddenly want to watch his career closely now the show is over. Other thoughts on this series: episode 3, which focused on Jack's brief flirtation with being a spoken word poet was absolutely hilarious. That group leader and several others who were giving "nepo baby masking with a Mockney accent" was spot on. Feel like the first episode was a little bit weaker, maybe because it took the show away from it's usual setting. Plonking the cast in Greece was giving Inbetweeners movie and not in a good way. But yeah. This is joining Derry Girls and Miranda in shows I'll be rewatching in years to come.
February 16Feb 16 Well that's my emotions completely wrecked after finishing the series today. What a fantastic show, give Jon Pointing all the awards. Can anyone tell me what the brilliant song was on episode 6 when they were buying ice creams? It is SOAK - Sea Creatures
February 16Feb 16 This was excellent, very tastefully done at the end too although I was an emotional wreck all throughout the last episode.
February 19Feb 19 Well that's my emotions completely wrecked after finishing the series today. What a fantastic show, give Jon Pointing all the awards. It is SOAK - Sea Creatures Ha of course, I just couldn’t put my finger on it. Thanks Lewis!
