I think tension has the potential to really strike a chord in the same way padam padam did but that's only if it actually gets released.

100% agree. I think Padam needed to come first to attract attention with its slightly gimmicky presence and turn some heads but Capital and Hot Hits UK will likely playlist anything as a follow up as long as it’s another one with a dancey vibe. And I think it has really good broad appeal. I don’t want to jinx it and say it would be another 10 hit for her but I’m not going to say it probably won’t be…

Yes tension has the broad appeal vibe so fingers crossed its the next single and the general public like it as much as we do.
Another kylie top 20 hit I'd love to see, imagine her getting 2 top 20s from 1 album.

It would be incredible my hun

I love hold on to now, dont get me wrong. It reminds me very much of all the lovers, I believe in you, say something sort of vibes huns but now is not the time for that as it has not crossed over well in recent years, during the streaming era huns.

Tension should be the next single as, although it is not Padam huns, it is the closest in terms of its sort of dance vibe my huns.

When she says her name in the song though is iconic huns

Hi my huns

How are we all today? Sorry I have been MIA, I have been out and about around Liverpool pride. I thought I would give them another chance huns. So again, lots of Padam in all the clubs my huns but lets see if it rises in the respective area of the country.

I’m expecting to see PP at #1 on the Liverpool Spotify and Apple charts :P

Me too my hun, me too

What more do they want from me? I cant live my life for one part of the country. At this point I am at a loose end my hun

I feel all my efforts have not been recognised by the liverpoolians.

Okay with Tension releasing next month, I think it's time we start predicting what its first week figures are gonna look like.

I want it to do 70,000 and blow us all away, but that seems a tad bit too high so I'm gonna keep my expectations a little lower and say that it's going to debut with 60,000 units.

It’s difficult to predict actual first week sales. Initially, I thought it might sell about 60k in first week but I fear we might be over predicting the first week sales. Ed Sheeran’s last album only sold something like 76k in the first week and he is a major artist, much bigger than Kylie. It would be great if tension could at least match the first week sales of disco but let’s remember her last album was released when shops were closed during lockdown and people didn’t have much else to spend their income on. We are also now in a cost of living crisis and many people’s income has been squeezed so buying an album isn’t a priority. Also, having a hit single doesn’t automatically guarantee album success and the publics response to the follow up single will play a big factor in how successful the album will be. How has tension done based on album pre-orders? I know disco sold higher preorders so this will give a clue to how it might do in the first week.

While I agree with a lot of what you say, Ed Sheeran's numbers are not really indicative of what Kylie is going to do, since most of his albums are bought by the general album-buying public while Kylie's main album buyers are her fanbase. The former group is affected by existing market conditions as well as the artist's ability to churn out new huge hits, whilst the latter continues to buy music released by their favourites regardless of hit singles and so sales for these artists are a lot more consistent over time. Additionally, Kylie's main demographic is the one least affected by the cost of living crisis, as her fans tend to skew older, and so they will have a greater likelihood of buying the album regardless of the crisis. The lockdown thing doesn't really hold up considering how bad album sales were during lockdown; if you recall, Disco was the fastest-selling album of 2020 by a solo artist with 'only' 55,000 units sold. Had people been forced to buy albums due to a lack of alternatives in lockdown, overall album sales would've been a lot higher.

This is what the BMG president said about Disco's performance compared to Golden when early reports of the former outperforming the latter came out: “We’re 100% ahead of where we were on Golden already. That’s on every metric: streaming, social media, Amazon pre-orders, D2C pre-orders, video views. And what's very exciting is the US response.... and there’s already lots of interest at US radio." We know that thus far Tension has outperformed Disco on streaming, social media, video views, and US radio response, and that Tension has had multiple sold out variants on Amazon pre-orders, so it only makes sense for us to assume that Tension is overall doing better than Disco was at this stage. Anything less than 50,000 would not only be shocking but a disappointment for Kylie at this stage, and that's a testament to her longevity.

You make some interesting and valid points but I don’t think you can accurately say that Kylie’s demographic group is least affected by the cost of living situation. On what basis are you saying that? The majority of Kylie fans will be from mid 30s to around early 50s age bracket who are more likely to own their own homes and therefore be impacted by mortgage rate rises and energy costs. In comparison, it is younger people who are least likely to be affected, particularly those who are still living at home with their parents but

fewer younger people tend to be fans. That said, I agree with you that Kylie’s audience is different to Ed Sheeran who appeals to a wider range of the general public but my point was his latest sales are an indicator that albums are no longer selling in the vast volumes compared to even a couple of years ago when 100k was easily achieved by popular artists. However, if the pre-order metrics are correct compared to disco then this would suggest Kylie is likely to continue bucking the trends and we can expect some very healthy first week sales. It will also be interesting to see how the album performs longer term and whether it will outsell disco and golden.
