I suspect it will fall out of the 75 next week...but return right after Audience With. I don't see the 3rd single having a big impact and Kylie herself doesn't seem to bothered as she's busy with Vegas.

It might be just outside the T50 next week. With no promo lined it, it will probably be out of the charts in 2-3 weeks. I can’t remember a chart run that bad since Deconstruction era.

But very few albums spend more weeks in the chart than Tension has! We can’t compare 2023 with any previous era - or at least not do a fair comparison. The album containing the song that has just spent 5 weeks at number one with massive streaming figures, has itself fallen to number 78 on its third week. That is what we need to be comparing with, not with albums that were released before the streaming era, or when the streaming era was comparatively young.

I don’t remember there being loads of promo for disco. It was released during lockdown when stores were closed.

Off the top of my head - The One Show, BBC Breakfast, Sunday Brunch, Graham Norton (Interview & Performance), Lorraine, This Morning, BBC Radio 2 Live Session plus radio interviews (Radio 2, Magic, Heart etc.,).

Plus promo continued throughout the campaign - Jonathan Ross Show, The One Show (again), Infinite Disco, Roxi TV Campaign

LOL Neil. Why such negativity for a number 1 album?

Plus 4.99 itunes, £5 in supermarkets, £5 with any other title in HMV, zillions of signed CDs on Amazon, HMV, Website and Chalkys, + new variants. Also Xmas time release and people who had free money from government and not doing any work and plenty of time to stream, watch TV and follow Disco and its chart battle with Little Mix

This tbh.

So many artists with big hits/number ones have ‘struggled’ with albums:

Raye: 2-15-42-77-92.

Doja Cat: 5-43-78.

Ellie Goulding: 1-84.

Calvin Harris: 5-16-94.

Sam Smith: 1-13-19-35-73.

It seems everyone expects Kylie to buck the trend when current artists with a much stronger streaming presence (Doja, Raye etc.,) can’t.

Even Miley didn’t get a massive running album off the back of a 10 week #1 single.

All hail the GreyAsh! :cheer:

Oh for goodness sake, anybody would think I was saying the album was a pile of crap which I’m not at all. I’m actually really disappointed. The chart run so far is extremely disappointing. We can dress it up and say yeah, it reached number 1 but it doesn’t look so good when you look at the chart run. Disco was only released 3 years ago and during lockdown too when all the odds should have been against it but it did incredibly well in terms of longevity and sales in a declining market.

I’m not trying to be negative, just realistic based on the figures. We can dress it up and say yeah, it reached number 1 but it doesn’t look so good when you look at the chart run. Disco was only released 3 years ago and during lockdown too when all the odds should have been against her but it did incredibly well in terms of longevity and sales in the current market.

It’s only a few chart fanatics that care about or know how long an album has spent on the charts - most people would believe Padam, Padam was a multi week #1 and Tension was a Top 5 single thanks to The Big Top 40.

The press were all over the fact the album reached the top and even reported it had done the same in the US, the GP are left with the impression of a huge success (which it has been) rather than it only spending 5,6,7 or whatever weeks on the charts.

you literally slated the song Tension when quite honestly 99% of her fans think it is one of the best songs she has released in her whole career. You said you were going to cancel your order for the album etc

We are not dressing anything up, Tension is only just out and we are celebrating the songs, the album and Kylie. The odds where not against Disco at all......

Well I don’t like tension (the song) and I’m entitled to my views and to disagree with other fans about this. Aside from that and 10 out of 10, the rest of the album is quite good. Disco was disadvantaged from the start…being released during a lockdown when stores were shut, little promo, no tour. It’s ridiculous that you think it wasn’t. Let’s just agree to disagree because we clearly have different opinions and I don’t see the point in arguing with you over the same issues. We are all entitled to our opinions and we aren’t always going to agree on everything but we are all here because we have a genuine interest in Kylie and her music so can you just stop targeting my posts in the way that you have been with constant criticism or snide remarks.

Disco was released to an Xmas Market, heavily discounted and available in more places such as supermarkets when everyone was going to supermarkets as the only place open. Everyone was at home ordering online from HMV, Amazon, Chalkys etc, thats all they had to do all day. It was involved in a very well publicised chart battle with Little Mix and was her first album off the back of her Greatest Hits and Glastonbury performance.

Tension released with zero discounts and actually increased prices. There is a cost of living crisis and released to a September market. Only a few copies in supermarkets

Could you imagine the difference in opinion had Kylie gone up against Drake and Ed with her numbers. The album has been a success for BMG already. We just as fans know it deserves so much more.

Week 2 Sales

5560 Ed Sheeran Variations

5516 Kylie Tension

I mean Ed didn't do much better in week 2 and he is a huge streamer

The drop is disappointing, I can't deny that, it's one of her fastest falling albums but in the current climate its doing well and hopefully it can stabilize a bit and stay top 100 for a few weeks.

As many people have pointed out huns, albums do fall quick in this climate of streaming where greatest hits albums clog up the charts. Albums these days are a long game and trickle sales make the sales up over a long period of time.

Just Carol Honey ❤️

I think we should differentiate the two things here:

Sure, the album market has changed - there are the vinyl/cd fans that purchase a variant or two or ten, and then there is the streaming audience. The middle ground (a.k.a. general BUYING public) doesn't exist any more.

However, the streaming numbers of the album tracks for Tension ARE really poor, there is no way to deny that. I don't know how it could've been improved, as it came as surprise to me, but she did worse with streaming than she did with Disco when there are plenty of (older) acts who have done better with than their previous release, is something BMG has to think about.

Isnt BMG doing their own streaming side of things rather than using Warner to help them. That could be a reason?

34,49 and 81 on Amazon current best selling. Big drops

i wonder if they are literally selling selling this album/lps/cds etc and then really going for it for a new edition for Nov/Xmas and totally new image/cover having seen the success of Padam Padam since the album was on pre-order and too late to change anything?
