Robbie Williams: long live the great pop illusionist

The British singer expresses charisma and is crowned as a full-time 'showman' with his first double at the Palau Sant Jordi

Curious case that of Robbie Williams, an artist whose years of maximum recording splendor are already far away but who continues to fill as always. Or, rather, like never before, since this weekend in Barcelona has been an unprecedented feat: a double at the Palau Sant Jordi on Friday and Saturday, tickets sold out in just half an hour for the first concert and very few spaces free in the second

A triumphant return after almost eight years away from the Spanish stages that Williams celebrated in his best clothes: dressed as Ferrero Rocher, jumping like a 'hooligan' on Champions League night and claiming himself as a dedicated and diligent reveler. The great Gatsby of pop, Baz Luhrmann version. The rhythm illusionist. The show man. Let the champagne flow. And the decibels. Let the winds blow.

This is my band and this is my ass," he announced solemnly just before sinking his teeth into "Let Me Entertain You." An entire declaration of principles. Entertainment?, she says. Here we go. 'One, two, three', the 'Land of 1000 Dances' made great by Wilson Pickett, already flying. Cruising speed. Come and see. Day of open doors to the interiors and ins and outs of a pop star. "The sex! The drug! The scandal! The paparazzi! This today is therapy for me," Williams proclaimed. And in a flash he was already in 1998, remembering the days of wine and roses of 'Strong' and taking more than 16,000 people on a walk through his history.

On stage, eight musicians, six dancers and a Robbie Williams of incandescent energy, an inexhaustible dynamo, celebrating his 25-year solo career. With its rises and falls. Like those VH1 'Storytellers' but in Las Vegas format. With the fast and the slow. "I only have two kinds of songs: one where I'm f***ing wonderful and one where I'm lost," he announced. And jumping between one and the other he embroidered a night of confessions, group therapy and confetti cascades. To get close to the public to make them feel important and earn every last euro invested in the ticket. Pure script, of course, but if anyone knows how to put people in their pockets, it's Williams.

Before 'Come Undone'', for example, he decided that the seats for some spectators who were on the side of Sant Jordi weren't good enough and he moved them to the front row. He also introduced the Take That story.replaying the atrocious video clip for 'Do What You Like', including a close-up of his bare ass, and remembering his pockets full of cocaine at the Glastonbury festival before stopping dead at the concert to ask a girl where she was going. "To the bathroom? Don't like Take That? Okay, you can go." The fourth wall, if there was one, was long overdue. After an hour and a half, the entire public knew the name of her four children, that she has not drunk for 23 years and that the disease has recently struck her family. Who said that macro concerts had to be cold and distant?

As a good pop snake charmer, a full-time showman who knows that the stage is his playground, the Briton took the night away. Game, set and match for Robbie. For the chubby guy from Take That, in the words of Liam Gallagher, who is now executing his sweet revenge by taking over 'Don't Look Back In Anger' and taking her to a venue that Oasis never managed to set foot on during their performances in the city.

Talkative and talkative (for some even too much: the occasional whistle was heard just before 'Angels', while Williams asked for patience and recounted how fame and excesses had affected his mental health), he improvised a dance competition with 'Candy' , gave away T-shirts, transformed Sant Jordi into a colossal karaoke with 'Feel' and, like Robbie at home, he put on his dressing gown to be tender in the encores. 'No Regrets', 'she She she's the One' and 'Angels' and it's over. Almost two hours of partying, confidences and pop disinhibition. Little more can be asked for. The best magic trick of him, in case there was any doubt, is himself.

ABSOLUTE SUCCESS FOR ROBBIE WILLIAMS IN BARCELONA

The British artist has given two concerts at the Palau Sant Jordi this weekend in which he has celebrated his 25th anniversary on stage as a soloist

The singer Robbie Williams has performed this weekend in our country. He has done it with two concerts, one on Friday and the other on Saturday, at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona that have had LOS40 as the official broadcaster . Tickets to see the artist live sold out in just half an hour after they went on sale. The 18,000 people who packed the venue sang and danced in a show where, the one who was the star of one of the first 'boy band' of the 90s, has celebrated his 25th anniversary on stage as a soloist since he left the TakeThat group .

The British star, who drew applause and shouts from a dedicated audience, was accompanied by a band made up of three choristers and musicians, with three guitars and two basses, a drummer, keyboards, two trumpets and a sax. The singer made jokes, laughed at himself, told stories, danced and reviewed some of the greatest hits of his solo career, which are many. Let Me Entertain You , Strong , Love of my life , Feel , Candy , Rock D J , No regrets or she's the one are just some of the songs that Robbie Williams has revived live in each of the concerts of he.

The tour in which the artist is immersed is entitled XXV Tour 2023 . This tour follows the release of his album, XXV ; an album that collects many of his greatest hits and his fan favorites throughout his 25-year career.

In this quarter century, Williams has amassed more than 85 million records sold worldwide. Earlier this September, he scored his 14th UK number 1 album with XXV , which topped the charts in its first week of release. With this incredible achievement, the music icon has broken the record for the most number 1 solo albums in the UK . In 2019, she already equaled Elvis Presley 's record on the charts, when he scored his thirteenth number 1 album with The Christmas Present . Just The Beatlesexceed that figure, with 15 #1 albums. In total, throughout his solo career and with Take That, Robbie Williams has 19 #1 albums, a fact that positions him as one of the two most #1 artists of all time , second only to Paul McCartney .

After the stop in Barcelona, he will continue his tour of Mexico, Portugal, Israel, Romania and other countries in the coming months before returning to Spain in the summer , where he will perform at the Marenostrum festival in Fuengirola (June 15) , Madcool in Madrid ( July 6) and O Gozo Festival of Santiago de Compostela (July 8) .

In-form crowd in Lisbon last night :)

Video thanks to R.A.O 1986

He mastered this leg of the tour very well.

I wonder if he will have vacation the next six week or if we hear something about the movie or new album.

I wonder if he will have vacation the next six week or if we hear something about the movie or new album.

Maybe a bit of both , see bio thread on movie...

He's done so well -looks great off the back of it.

He must be tired but has delivered some amazing shows.

Well done to him :cheer:

He seems to have a lot of fun during the leg of the tour.

Yesterday afternoon he was gave a private concert in front of 16,000 people (for a huge real estate/hedge fund company). The original planned artist, Helene Fischer, you might know her from singing Santa Baby with Rob, had broken a rip while rehearsing for her tour. Robbie was asked to replace her and must have done it to huge acclaim.

Robbie Williams in Lisbon: the moment Filipa, 24, from Leiria, won't forget

“Inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale. Don't swoon, it's not going to look pretty on the internet. Are you 24 years old? Oh no, you know there's a guy called Harry Styles?" During this Monday's concert at Altice Arena, Robbie Williams spoke with a Portuguese fan, to whom he dedicated 'She's The One'. Filipa, 24 years old from Leiri, was the center of attention for almost 10 minutes

We were already in encore. After 'No Regrets', Robbie Williams, now wearing the last outfit of the night, a boxer's robe under a bare torso, approaches the audience closest to him. Repeating a usual 'number' on this tour – which ended precisely on the stage of Lisbon's Altice Arena, this Monday –, the 49-year-old English singer establishes a dialogue with a fan. The presentations: on one side one of the biggest pop stars 'made' in the 90's, on the other the young “Filipa, from Leiria”.

Surprised, Filipa – who later claims to have gone to the concert alone – cannot contain her enthusiasm. Williams calms down the Portuguese fan: “Inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale…” Then he asks her how old she is. “24”, replies the young woman. The singer jokes: “oh no, I'm old enough to be… your old friend. We can be friends, right? Let's give you a friendly hug. You know there's a guy called Harry Styles?”, she jokes, to general laughter. And then she begins, still a cappella , to sing 'She's the One', a song that she dedicates to the Leiriense, who ends up remaining on the giant screen throughout the song. In the end, there's still time for a little more talk. Watch the video of one of the most humorous (and emotional) moments of the night here:

BARCELONA

Video thanks to Mark Flaix

Just watched the videos from Lisbon concert and seems it has been the most emotional concert of the Tour by far.

Rob is more mad, fans are more mad. Amazing!

Rob looks very happy same like audience, his movements are better than usually. Maybe his voice is a little bit tired comparing to his concerts in January/February but it's not a big problem.

And seems people in Portugal has better cameras then people from different parts of Europe :)) Very good quality of video of a lot of them on YT.

Also I'm happy to see him in t-shirt, especially in that like-a-football one!

Ole-ole-ole-ole-ole!!

Wow!

robbiewilliams That’s a wrap for the 2023 ‘XXV’ EU Arena run.

I want to thank my band, my crew, my dancers, everyone behind the scenes who work tirelessly night and day to make these shows happen and above all, you, the audience for coming out to the show and supporting me.

I’m enjoying one of the best tours of my whole career and I’m going to miss you, Europe. I can’t wait to see you in the summer for outdoor shows, and onto Australasia later in the year.

Until then thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you ❤️

This is such a massive change around for him. I'm really happy for him.

For years touring was a bad experience for him and such a trial, but he really seems to have cracked it now and it shows.

He's looked fit and well the whole tour and performed brilliantly. ^_^
