Robbie Williams conquers the Ziggo Dome with humour, a good story and squatters from yesteryear ★★★★☆

The British singer tackles the audience with a lot of self-mockery. 'I'm Robbie Williams. This is my band. And this is my ass.'

LnzKZUu.png

What would Robbie Williams think if he sometimes turned his back on his audience and watched himself on the projection screens behind the stage? He's still the showman from his hit Let Me Entertain You , a quarter of a century later. He is a man of almost 50 in a gold glitter suit, who dutifully shows his six-pack only a few times: yes, all the cans are still neatly in the rack.

Williams may also think of the personal adversities he has overcome, from addictions to depression and overall career slump. He hardly ever releases new music and he no longer scores hits. But now he is back in the largest halls in the world, often several nights in a row, such as in the Amsterdam Ziggo Dome.

Williams gets those halls full because he can swim in his old successes; a single old squatter from his former boy band Take That, but especially the work with which he was able to escape that band and build his own career, from Angels (1997) to Feel (2002). But he has more to offer. Williams is also a pleasant and disarmingly honest stage personality with a lot of self-mockery and a good story.

From boy to man

His vulnerabilities, from his addictions to concerns about the aging body, are part of his show: Williams takes his aging audience on a journey through his career, which has many shadowy sides. "Let me introduce myself," he begins the show. 'I'm Robbie Williams. This is my band. And this is my ass.'

He's expected to still play that hunk, that pretty boy from Take That. He laughs heartily at himself and his audience and points to the questionable phases in his boy band existence. A shiny naked boy's butt appears on the projection screen, which apparently had to win hearts in the nineties. "This is my butt," says Williams. "I was 17 at the time. That's kind of weird, isn't it?"

It doesn't happen often that you laugh out loud a few times at a pop show. At Williams, yes. When a man gets up from his seat somewhere in the stands and disappears down the stairwell, Williams stops the music. "Hey, what are you going to do?" The man returns to the stairwell and makes the universal I-go-piss gesture. Williams: "Okay, will you come back?"

His humor sweeps the audience along. His band, with saxophones and an organ, plays the greatest hits nicely and the six dancers really do their best, but it is Williams who builds the party. Even in an extremely wry song like Come Undone , in which he sings away all the misery of show business. "So need your love, so f*** you all." Top shelf entertainment.

28/1, Ziggo Dome, Amsterdam. Repeat: 29/1 and 13/2.

These dates mean a lot due to connection of the album to The Netherlands ;)

His energy at these shows is amazing.

I really think this type of show with the narration -although possibly makes it harder in Europe -really suits his personality and makes his story come alive.

Love this picture!

MUSIC - LET ME ENTERTAIN YOU..... TWICE!!!

Robbie Williams adds second LuxExpo date

In news that will have no doubt left a few water cooler braggarts bereft, den Atelier have confirmed that one of pop's bad boys is going to rock the Duchy not once but twice this summer. In a press release sent out early on Tuesday 31 January, A-Promotions have announced that British superstar, Robbie Williams, has added a second Luxembourg show to his XXV Tour 2023. The extra show is scheduled for Monday, 10 July 2023, at the Luxexpo Open Air site in Luxembourg-Kirchberg.

If we are being honest, we knew this was going to happen. You need not have a mustache worth twirling to have seen the booking sequence for the rest of William' EU tour to spy that dates, either side of a show, were kept free and the labels were popping up all over the place 'due to phenomenal demand'. Given how swiftly the tickets were snapped up here in the 'Burg, it really was only a matter of time until we had similar news.

The initial show, den A's team say, sold out its capacity of 16,000 tickets in less than three days leaving a huge number of Robbie fans frustrated. Needless to say, the new set of tickets available to purchase from Wednesday 1st February at 10am, will go like the proverbial clappers.

Pricing (face value):

130€ General Admission

170€ Golden Circle

Stephen Steps Lowe has seen Robbie perform solo AND with Take That and can confirm that the flamboyant wild man still has the necessary chops to command a stage. Even one in a car park in Kirchberg. With 85 million albums sold around the world; thirteen UK number one albums (the most for any solo artist, equaled only by Elvis Presley); fourteen number one singles; the most concert tickets sold in a day (1.6 million on November 19, 2005); the record-breaking three nights at Knebworth to 375,000 people in 2003, it is fair to say that 'our Robbie' justifies the hype.

The complete list of shows at Luxexpo Open Air:

Lizzo –03 July 2023

Arctic Monkeys – 04 July 2023

Paul Kalkbrenner – 07 July 2023

Robbie Williams – 10 July 2023 – additional show

Robbie Williams – 11 July 2023 – sold-out

RTL Today and RTL Today Radio will be announcing a ticket competition in the coming days, via our social media channels. Keep your eyes peeled

After new show have been added...

I've updated the list (by 01.02.2023).

Some changes and remarks:

- ONE-OFF shows like Dubai and Albert Hall aren't technically a part of the XXV Tour, so let's count them seperately. They are in VIOLET.

- in BOLD - new added shows since my last update

- I deleted a Festival notes because it's inconvenient to decide when there are the festivals like Pinkpop with a lot of artists sharing the scene during the day and the festivals like Lucca where only one artist perform on a day.

Thank you, Alex for adding the statistics. I wondered to how many people he plays with all the shows and thee is the fact.

What do you think, is this now a finalized list or will there be more concerts like in LATAM?

I'm sure new dates will be added.

Two more in summer

Regarding LATAM it's basic practice for all artists to announce the dates there much later than the other ones. Mostly because of more complicated logistics.

Sep/Oct Is still possibile I suppose, but I'd not be surprised if LATAM dates Will be added in spring 2024. It's the second way (spring) what artists use for concerts there.

I think all depends on Better Man's promotion schedule.

unfortunately the German reviews are pay only. But reading the red herring first sentences they all say the old Robbie is back. If he continues like this and can keep up the level than this tour will be a similar success as the tour 2003.

Who would have thought this? Looking forward to the next show in Holland and Cologne.
