Robbie Williams shocked the arena with his bare bottom

sssgrtl.png

The last time Robbie Williams gave a concert in Budapest was six years ago - then the audience could see him at the Groupama Arena, where he came with Erasure. The occasion for the return of the British pop star was the quarter-century anniversary of his solo career, which he is celebrating with a compilation album called XXV and a European tour. The concert series started in Bologna on January 20 and, according to the current situation, will last until August - the singer performed in Budapest on March 14, this time at the Papp László Sportarena.

There is no doubt that Robbie Williams is a true showman on stage. By the way, he was the first world star I could see live at the time, and what I experienced at his concert at that time largely determined my relationship to live music. Based on this, among other things, I think that it is not at all an exaggeration to state,

even if you haven't really attended concerts before. The British performer usually prepares for his performances with a lot of hits, which are also known from the radio, during which he typically communicates with the audience between songs, and in many cases even involves a fan in the show. In addition, he always puts a lot of emphasis on stage elements and visual effects, so that, if possible, it affects all the senses of those present.

At that time, the audience got to know the singer as a member of the boy band Take That. He left the group in 1995, and a year later he started his solo career with a cover of George Michael's song Freedom . Under his own name, Life Thru a Lens , his first album was released in September 1997, including songs that are popular to this day, such as Angels , Let Me Entertain You , Lazy Days or Old Before I Die . While his solo albums came one after the other, he didn't stop producing covers either, and over the years he occasionally collaborated with other artists - for example, he produced Kids with Kylie Minogue, and Nicole Kidman with compositions entitled Something Stupid . In July 2010, he reconciled with the members of Take That and rejoined the band - the result of the joint work was the album Progress , which was later taken on tour by the group. On the other hand, Williams did not work on Take That's next studio albums, nor did he participate in the performances related to them, because he decided to focus on his solo career in the future.

Robbie Williams' album XXV, released last September, is a compilation album full of hits, on which, supplemented by some new tracks, his well-known compositions are re-arranged. The release immediately debuted at number one on the UK charts, Williams broke the record for the most number one albums among solo artists. After the singer wanted to commemorate his quarter-century solo career with the new album and the current tour of the same name, I eagerly awaited Tuesday's concert to see

A POP STAR WHO LIKES TO CELEBRATE YOUR PERSONALITY AS WELL AS OTHERS WONDER HOW TO CELEBRATE HIMSELF EVEN BETTER ON SUCH A SIGNIFICANT ANNIVERSARY

I was sure that what I was going to see would be entertaining, and not just because of my previous personal experiences - just scroll through his social media pages to see that the 49-year-old singer's sense of humor has hardly worn off over the years. I was a little surprised at the ticket prices, because you couldn't get a ticket for less than HUF 33,000, and the upper limit was HUF 99,000. About why Robbie Williams is so expensive, Live Nation CEO László Borsos said in an interview with Világgazdaság :

He is truly a high-end performer. It depends on the artist how much the ticket price needs to be raised in order to be able to bring someone here, but based on Arena, Park and Barba Negra concerts, it is difficult to get a ticket for less than HUF 15,000, for smaller parties the price is around HUF 5-7,000. We would be happy to give the tickets cheaper, but then the math wouldn't work out, and in the end no one would be able to see the given performer in Budapest.

In response to the newspaper's question, the expert also stated that the price of the tickets is not determined based on the customers' tolerance, but is always calculated on the basis of the costs, at what average ticket price can the events be held. This average price is then tried to be spread apart so that every class of customer can find something suitable for their wallet. He also noted: Tickets in Budapest still cost an average of 20 percent less than in Vienna, and up to 30-35 percent less than in more western cities.

I would like to add: despite the tickets that seemed expensive at first glance, the Papp László Budapest Sportárena was full on Tuesday night, so - as in the other stops of the The celebrant almost led the celebration himself. As in the other stops of the tour, the British singer performed in Budapest in support of his new music project called Lufthaus . A dance formation inspired by the Berlin music scene, Robbie Williams founded it last February during the closures, together with his friends Tim Metcalfe and the Australian songwriter-producer duo Flynn Francis , and initially keeping the creative participation of the British pop star a secret. Four compositions have been officially presented so far: in 2022, the songs Sway , To The Light and Soul Seekers , and most recently Unloveable , for which a music video was made, the sequences of which were recorded on the XXV tour. In the fall, a record can also be expected from them. tour - Robbie Williams was able to get a standing ovation in front of a full house, which he certainly deserved based on his performance.

He burst onto the stage at the Lufthaus point at 8 p.m., with three giant cubes lined up in the background. Of course, only Metcalfe and Francis appeared live from the formation, Robbie Williams' figure only flashed on the projector sometimes. Although Lufthaus is musically very far from what the British pop star represents under his name, the atmosphere in the hall, which by then was already quite full, was raised in less than a minute - even the rows of chairs were packed in the top section, and in the arena, which the organizers divided it into two parts with a cordon, and people gathered to the point of overcrowding in both the prominent standing and back corrals.

After the electronic warm-up, there was a short break, and shortly after 9 o'clock, the main hero of the evening arrived on stage - Robbie Williams and his band appeared from behind the towering LED cubes during the song Hey Wow Yeah Yeah . What else could the party have continued with than Let Me Entertain You -

AFTER ALL, THE SINGER CAME TO ENTERTAIN, TO WHICH HE REMAINED FAITHFUL FROM THE FIRST MOMENT OF THE CONCERT TO THE LAST.

By the way, the performer, who this time wore an autumnal, slightly combed hairdo, arrived in black pants and a red shirt, and although, based on the videos available on the Internet, he sometimes appeared on stage in a tacky, shiny set at the previous stations, he took the dress code quite seriously here. During the evening, he changed his clothes only once, when he sang in a robe towards the end of the concert, and in the middle of the production he threw up his original outfit with a golden jacket. But no matter what performance clothes he chose, one thing cannot be ignored: the 49-year-old singer, who has had more difficult periods in the past, is now in particularly good shape - perhaps it is not an exaggeration to say that he could deny at least ten years.

The back of the singer in the spotlight

In order to make everyone aware, our protagonist announced right from the start that he is indeed the amazing Robbie f***ing Williams , and immediately afterwards he "introduced" his band and, of course, his butt. By the way, it is nothing new that he likes to "bulge" his backside - for example, on the cover of his 2014 publication , Under the Radar, the singer appeared completely naked, and at the current concert

HIS BACK WENT STRAIGHT TO THE GIANT PROJECTOR.

This moment came after the Chris Kenner cover "Land of 1000 Dances" and the songs "Monsoon" and "Strong", when Williams ran back in time more than 30 years and brought out Take That's first music video, which was projected onto the screen behind the stage for the audience . In other words, they would have just projected it - at one point, a picture slipped in, in which the members of the band were lying on their stomachs stretched naked, and when the camera showed a close-up of one of the popsicles, Williams announced that

THAT NAKED REAR IS DEFINITELY HERS.

Of course, the audience was laughing, as it often happened later in the evening, because the singer did such a cabaret between the songs that sometimes you really felt like you were at a comedy show. He joked about everything and everyone, and, as usual, involved the fans in the production, making those present feel as if they were an integral part of the show. The singer randomly poked people out of the crowd - there was someone he ordered from his seat into the photo pit, and later called him on stage, he climbed down to hug others in the pit, but there was also someone with whom he had a short dialogue up close and then dedicated a song to him .

Presumably, the backbone of the stream of jokes is the same at every concert, but when the singer interacts with a fan, unexpected situations can arise - apparently, however, the singer is able to react to these very routinely and seasoned with extraordinary humor. This also proves his professionalism as a performer: Robbie Williams took to the stage on Tuesday night with such flamboyant ease and confidence that it should be taught - but presumably it's something you should be born with.

The showman also showed his weakness

Since it is an event spanning a 25-year career, it was expected that the singer would invite us on a kind of time travel in terms of the songs. The twenty-song repertoire of the concert included older and newer hits, covers, and even Take That songs - in addition to the already mentioned first, Do What You Want , for example , Flood and a short part of Could It Be Magic were also played on the evening.

But not only did Williams fly back to the past through music, the same thing happened on another level when he revived old stories. For example, he talked about what he went through as the youngest member of Take That and how he got out of the band, which, as you know, was not a peaceful process.

OF COURSE, HE SHARED ALL THIS WITH SUFFICIENT HUMOR AND SELF-IRONY,

Aaptly punctuating what happened with Oasis' track Don't Look Back In Anger , which was immediately followed by Love My Life , indicating how well everything turned out later. There were two other things that he highlighted from his past 25 years and apparently consider very important ever since. One is his family - his wife, Ayda Field, who also accompanied him on the tour, and his four children, whom he mentioned by name - and the other is that he got rid of alcohol, which he was used to at the time because of the sudden success he was unable to handle it, and it caused him self-esteem disturbances and mental problems. By talking about these things at the concert, he gave an insight behind the star mask, showing his weaknesses and his human side at the same time. Williams emphasized that the fact that he managed to get rid of his addiction and overcome his problems without it is thanks to his wife and his fans - specifically, he said that

HE WAS SAVED BY HIS PARTNER AND AUDIENCE.

Blood pro at all levels

In addition to great humor and content that often dissects serious topics, the singer brought a production put together for a pharmacy in terms of sound and visuals. On the stage that ended in the catwalk, he performed his songs together with an 11-member band of instrumentalists and vocalists, and for the greater part of the evening, dancers appeared in new and new costumes jumping around. Animations and camera images from different points of the room were played on the elevated cubes and on the giant projector placed in the background, which sometimes presented total, sometimes divided images, at one point a minimal confetti raised the mood, and in addition to the forest of lights operating with colored lights, laser games were sometimes used.

Despite the visuals and the crowds buzzing around him, Robbie Williams somehow always attracted attention - the showman is quite simply

HE HAS SUCH A PRESENCE ON STAGE THAT EVERYTHING ELSE SEEMS TO BE A DECORATION NEXT TO HIM.

In addition, it is also important to emphasize that the singer's voice has not worn out over the years: it happened several times during the evening that he let it out unaccompanied, but it was just as powerful as before, and he spoke clearly every time. Many times Williams also tried to involve the audience in the singing, and when the song "Rock DJ" that closed the concert followed , he also made those sitting in the seating areas stand up.

At the end of the show, of course, the applause was not missed either, the British pop star planned three songs for the encore: No Regrets , She's the One and Angels , which he already had in hand with a Hungarian flag around his neck. In the end, he walked slowly off the stage with a string of Let Me Entertain You, Strong, Come Undone, Feel and Angels in a bouquet , while the audience sang along with him.

How did Robbie Williams manage to celebrate himself in the end? Well, the atmosphere could not be complained about at all. The audience clearly enjoyed every moment of the concert - every expression of the singer was appreciated with laughter, applause or ovation. I don't know if Williams is as much of an actor as he is a showman, but I do know that his eyes sparkled when saying goodbye - at least it seemed so on the projecto

Not sure of the number of shows so far Elisabeth, Alex or Laura might know. It is a long tour but at the end of March he has a break of 6 weeks so I guess that is family time. He sure seems to be in a very good place health wise at the moment & it shows in his performance . Very happy for him :)

Edited by Sydney11

No I don't know either Elisabeth but he is looking in great shape - so much better than in tours gone by.

He seems to be in the best shape of his life really and considering he is nearly 50 -moves like someone 20 years younger.

Good on him. :cheer:
