September 9, 20222 yr Yes it's a shame for people whose escapism is watching sport at the weekend. It's not like we all had the day off work today either. Ah well, fixture disruption is something we've become very accustomed to in recent seasons! Honestly, I am very glad of the disruption at this time! Supsect there are a few clubs who are (Brighton, Chelsea, Liverpool - probably Man Utd too).
September 9, 20222 yr Nah we're on a good run right (yesterday aside) so would have liked to continue the momentum.
September 9, 20222 yr It looks like Rugby and some other sports are going ahead. This is a knee jerk reaction from the Premier League and EFL in my opinion, black armbands & a minute of silence would have been enough. Same thing will likely happen next week as well.
September 9, 20222 yr That's bizarre re rugby! I'm sure I read somewhere that it's literally written into the rules of the game (and with cricket i think) that if a monarch passed there'd be no matches the proceeding weekend. Football has no such rule and yet that's the sport that gets canned?
September 9, 20222 yr Nah we're on a good run right (yesterday aside) so would have liked to continue the momentum. Exactly why I am happy! Kills some of the momentum of other teams who had favourable runs like Arsenal and slows other teams down too. Did City wonders back in 2020., so fingers crossed a similar effect here for Liverpool. Would prefer the football back next week, but suspect we are all waiting for the funeral announcement.
September 9, 20222 yr But on a more serious unbiased note - I understand this weekend, although I feel as the whole "no football whatsoever" is a bit overkill, especially at grassroots level. The problem will be next week, with the fixtures being played just before the State funeral where you would expect police to be deployed en-masse. This does highlight the stupidity of planning a winter World Cup - as much as I love football it feels the schedules get packed tighter every year and there's little wiggle room.
September 10, 20222 yr I think Potter is a bit different. His background is very different to a lot of coaches of the flavour of the month managers in recent times like Rodgers and Howe. The one thing with Potter is I don't think I've ever seen him have a really bad run of form, so it's unclear how he would react when that happens. I know Brightin had patches where they could not score for love nor money, but they creating the chances and that was clearly down to the personnel rather than the tactics and coaching. He did an amazing job at the Norwegian side he managed who played Arsenal a few years ago in Europe. He then left Swansea quite quickly as the conditions were poor for him support wise and found his feet perfectly at Brighton!
September 12, 20222 yr We really need some urgent clarity of what's happening with this weekend's fixtures.
September 12, 20222 yr Author Wolves have signed former Chelsea striker Diego Costa on a free transfer until the end of the season. The 33-year-old has been without a club since leaving Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro in January.
September 12, 20222 yr United v Leeds and Chelsea v Liverpool the postponements. Everything else goes ahead, albeit some rearranging of Sky games.
September 12, 20222 yr I kind of get the Chelsea vs Liverpool game being called off, but Leeds vs United just reeks of the Premier League being worried about fans spoiling the occasion imo. I'm guessing the reason is "high risk" and "lower risk" fixtures, but with United vs Leeds, surely that doesn't mean an extra 1,000 police officers? I'm kind of glad the Chelsea vs Liverpool game has been rearranged - new bounce bounce, we're in bad form, injuries etc. - gives us time to have another mini pre-season. Although no idea when we might be able to play any of these fixtures!
September 12, 20222 yr Theres surely gonna be some teams who have to play 3 matches in a week later in the season like we did in 20/21
September 14, 20222 yr Author Arsenal's league game with Manchester City, originally set for 19 October, has been postponed to allow the rearrangement of the Gunners' Europa League tie against PSV Eindhoven. Arsenal's game against PSV was set for Thursday, but "severe limitations on police resources" after Queen Elizabeth II's death prompted the postponement. Arsenal will now play the Dutch side on 20 October.
September 15, 20222 yr Author Mainz coach Bo Svensson is on Brighton's shortlist to replace Graham Potter as manager. The 43-year-old Dane is one of a number of candidates being assessed by Brighton owner Tony Bloom and chief executive Paul Barber. Svensson has attracted attention for his work at Mainz. They were facing relegation when he took over in January 2021 but he guided them to safety and led them to eighth in the Bundesliga last season. They are sixth in the table after six games this season. Potter recently left Brighton to take over from Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea.
September 15, 20222 yr Author Councillors have approved plans for Leicester City to expand the King Power Stadium by 8,000 seats. The club applied for planning permission from Leicester City Council in October after a public consultation. Plans to build a new hotel and business centre, a flagship fan store, an events arena and residential flats have also been provisionally given the go ahead. The council's planning committee voted to approve the plans on Wednesday, following planning officers' advice. Leicester City will be able to expand the capacity of their ground to 40,000 seats, making it the 10th largest among current Premier League sides.
September 16, 20222 yr Author AFC Bournemouth owner Maxim Demin is in advanced talks over the sale of the club. Bill Foley, owner of NHL side Vegas Golden Knights, is understood to be heading the takeover
September 16, 20222 yr Author Forest already feels like one huge expensive cock up. And I fear Cooper will bear the brunt of it even though I don't think he would have gone this way if it would have been solely down to him.
