The Premier League "needs to re-examine the assurances" it was given about potential Saudi state control of Newcastle United, says human rights group Amnesty International.

Newcastle's takeover by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) was approved after "legally binding assurances" the Saudi government would not have any control over the club.

However, in a US court case Newcastle chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan has been described as "a sitting minister of the government" with "sovereign immunity".

Feels very much like the league is Arsenal's this season- everything going for them in the end.

Only caveat to that is there's still a lot of games and those huge emotional wins with 10+ games to go might not be the best sign.

Every game at this point in the title run in is difficult though!

Crystal Palace have sacked manager Patrick Vieira after a 12-match winless run.

Palace have not won a match in 2023 and were beaten 1-0 by Brighton in the Premier League on Wednesday, their third defeat in a row.

They are 12th in the table but are only three points above 18th-placed Bournemouth, who have a game in hand.

"It is with enormous regret that this difficult decision has been made," chairman Steve Parish said.

Seems a bit harsh when you consider they're 12th in the table but it's deceptive. They're in the worst form of any team, literally haven't won a game in 2023 and can't even get any shots on target never mind score. Were sleepwalking towards relegation...

I would say the table is deceptive but the other way around. Arsenal on Saturday is their 12th consecutive game against one of the 11 teams above them, an insanely unlucky run to have in which they have got some decent draws in. Mix the fixtures a different way and they're no where near being part of the relegation battle.

19 points from 10 games against sides in the bottom half, still all 8 below them to play, 5 of them at home. This is prime candidate for a new manager bounce which is no such thing, just down to variance.

The end of the line is probably approaching for Antonio Conte at Tottenham after the events of today!

Former England manager Roy Hodgson has been reappointed as Crystal Palace boss until the end of the season.

Patrick Vieira, who replaced Hodgson at Selhurst Park in July 2021, was sacked by Palace on Friday after a 12-match winless run in all competitions.

Hodgson, 75, managed Watford from January to May 2022, leaving after they were relegated to the Championship.

I see Crystal Palace are turned to the classic 'get out of jail' free card with Roy Hodgson like some clubs have done with Big Sam and Harry Redknapp.

Thing is, he'll keep them up and the appointment will be viewed as a success, they only need 3 maybe 4 wins. But what about next season? No long-term thinking at all...

Next season I can see being a struggle for Palace. They'll probably go down.

This is the funny thing with manager these days. Even though he 100% wanted to resign weeks ago, he waits to get the sack for the massive payout.
