#16 - Love U More - 62

 

 

Love U More is out next at #18 and is the last album track to feature in the Ultimate 25. After this it’s nothing but singles. Like Back To You this features on Steps debut album Step One. A cover of the 1992 hit by Suncreem Steps took it on and made it their own. In fact I wasn’t aware it was a cover until many years down the track, I actually thought that when Rollergirl covered it was a Steps original! Love U More received votes from six of the seven participants. (5-20-5-13-16-3).

I did think paradise lost would be the highest placed album track but well done to love u more and step one having 2 album tracks top 25.

I’ll never forget how poorly Love U More was received on this forum in the AF Idol game (by some it was practically ridiculed). It came as a shock considering it is widely loved amongst Steps fans, so I didn’t see that one coming. We know it’s good though!

#15 - Say You'll Be Mine - 67

 

 

In at #15 is the third single from Steptacular, Say You’ll Be Mine. Released alongside a cover of the Kylie Minogue classic Better The Devil You Know in the UK on December 13, 1999 it would debut at #7 before going on to reach a peak of #4 early in 2000. This was the first Steps single to feature prominent vocals from all five members of the band. Outside of the UK Say You’ll Be Mine reached #13 in Ireland and #21 in Australia. Say You’ll Be Mine received votes from six of the seven participants. (6-12-2-17-20-10).

From what I remember, Better The Devil was on the TV more.

 

Weirdly, the Now series only put Say You’ll Be Mine on the compilation!

I think the horns used for performing better the devil you know got plenty of attention but i was trying to work out did devil overshadow say youll be mine at the time.

#14 will be coming up a little later on (probably a few hours or so). Its a cover version...

#14 - Chain Reaction - 72

 

 

In at #14 is the only new song from Steps first greatest hits album, Gold. Chain Reaction saw Steps take another very well know song and put their own stamp on it. Released in the UK on September 24th 2001 and in Australia on January 28th 2002 it would go on to reach #2 and #41 respectively, it was also a top ten hit in Ireland. (#8). As the total points now crosses the 70 mark Chain Reaction finishes with a very respectable 72. This was made up with votes from five of the seven participants. (13-18-6-12-23).

Yay for say you’ll be mine. And oops chain reaction didn’t even make my top 25. Don’t get me wrong I do like it I think it’s simply because I knew the Diana Ross one first and I always loved it so I find the steps version too much of a cover to enjoy it as much similar to better the devil and Kylie… love both of them live though!
