April 6, 20232 yr The BBC have put out a news article reviewing and rating the chances of each song: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-65043969 Obviously an opinion piece but still quite surprising that they published this while hosting. I'm guessing the BBC's Eurovision team will look to distance themselves from it with some of the less favourable reviews in here oops.
April 6, 20232 yr Author 'Cha Cha Cha as something between Gangnam Style and J-Pop' - the words of a man who has only ever heard 2 Asian songs, both of them made for the club. To say nothing of how that single paragraph on Lord Of The Lost reveals he knows absolutely zero about metal. BBC News are always bad when they do opinion pieces and analysis as they sell the rest of their news coverage as accurate so much that it's hard to read opinions on their pages as anything other than condescending and not open to other opinions. And this certainly qualifies in some of it. Even 7th for Mae I'd say is overrating it and La Zarra as the main contender with Loreen....
April 6, 20232 yr Yes, not sure where the France prediction came from, unless I'm massively underestimating it. Surely Basshunter is a far more obvious comparison point than Gangnam Style, which I'd never considered at all. I don't hear anything about it that isn't European in sound and style. Anyway, I still think Cha Cha Cha is a bigger contender than people think, and that the juries aren't going to dampen its chances as much as people expect. It's a surefire televote smash, it's got to be in with a shot.
April 13, 20232 yr Semi final performers have been announced. Rita Ora and Rebecca Ferguson amongst them
April 14, 20232 yr The official album is out today to download, with the karaoke album also available to stream. I know it's basically a waste of money as the CD comes out in two weeks but I always download it anyway as this is always my first listenthrough of all of the final Eurovision versions in full each year. Interestingly, the 2022 compilation is still charting in the compilations chart at No.43 this week, after a full year on the chart now. The 2021 album is also in there at No.83. I know streams will be the driving force but it's cool that there are enough residual streams of the 2021/2022 songs to keep them both charting for so long.
April 17, 20232 yr I haven't even listened to most songs selected, I'm so terribly behind on getting into Eurovision hype this year it's embarrassing.
April 17, 20232 yr grand final performances announced as such: opener: Kalush flag parade: Go_A, Jamala, Tina Karol, Verka Serduchka interval 1: Sam Ryder interval 2: Mahmood, Netta, Dadi Freyr, Cornelia Jakobs, Duncan Laurence, Sonia
April 17, 20232 yr A celebration of modern Eurovision...and Sonia. I guess the Liverpool connection won her that slot  That is a HIGH profile gig for her.
April 19, 20232 yr EastEnders has announced that Cheryl Baker will make a guest appearance in the BBC One soap's upcoming Eurovision episode. Cheryl shot to stardom back in 1981 when her group The Fizz (formerly known as Bucks Fizz) were crowned winners of the Eurovision Song Contest with 'Making Your Mind Up'. In honour of the UK hosting the Eurovision next month for the first time since 1998, EastEnders will see Cheryl arrive in Walford to celebrate the occasion with the residents of Albert Square – though further details about her cameo are so far being kept under wraps.
April 21, 20232 yr There will also be more than a dozen TV specials on Eurovision across the BBC's channels, while there will be numerous themed specials across its radio stations, including a full 18 hours on Radio 2 on the day of the final. Eurovision will also weave its way into other programmes from EastEnders to Newsround, and The Archers to Blue Peter. It's actually quite difficult to give an abridged version of everything they've planned, so it's well worth a look at the full article here - https://www.bbc.com/mediacentre/mediapacks/...2023-on-the-bbc
April 21, 20232 yr Wish they invited Philomena Cunk to do the spoken word piece on the history of the contest :(
April 22, 20232 yr I'm in an LGBT choir and we've been asked to do backing vocals for a winning contestant when they perform their winning song in a few weeks time. :o I still can't quite believe that we're doing this. Edited April 22, 20232 yr by Colm
