#03 – 70 – Keane – This Is The Last Time

{18}-33-48-58-60-65->6

The 4th single release from Keane, which couldn't quite follow their first 3 into the top 10 as by that point the album had already sold a lot (1.5m for 2004) so was more popular than its chart run gave it credit for.

#02 – 72 – Jay-Z & Linkin Park – Numb/Encore

{14}-18-19-19-18-17-16-17-14-17-18-14-17-21-25-30-37-40-50-54-63-63-73-64R(88)-69-68-69R(2)-71-66R(4)-74-75R(7)-74R(3)-72-74-72-65R(33)-65-67R(4)-61-64R(15)-45-65-71->43

Linkin Park finish 2nd again this time with the Jay-Z version of 'Numb', which was a mash-up with his song 'Encore'. It spent a lot longer in the chart than the original 'Numb' but isn't quite as big on streaming now. The song was a rare case of a rap/rock fusion working well and its uniqueness must have helped its longevity (at the time a record stay for a non-top 10 hit). The idea apparently was Jay-Z's although Mike Shinonda of Linkin Park was already a big fan of Jay-Z and wanted to work with him. A whole collaborative EP titled 'Collision Course' was made but this was its only single.

'All These Things I've Done' & 'Somebody Told Me' are both better than 'Mr Brightside' imo which I also do like but it's seriously overrated.

#01 – 82 – Motorcycle – As The Rush Comes

{11}-16-23-30-35-37-51-63-74->9

Motorcycle was a collaboration of trance duo Gabriel & Dresden with vocalist Jes who only officially released one song under the name but it ended up as one of the biggest trance classics of the decade. The song was a breath of fresh air for dance in the chart being a progressive trance song and marked an evolution for the genre. The song is still very highly regarded now amongst trance fans and the fair proportion of those on the site helped it win here - it received 11 votes with 6 of +8 or above. Personally we couldn't have possibly had a better winner here, it is a truly excellent song!

Thank goodness that awful mash-up didn't win (like both songs individually but together it's terrible).

Surprised Motorcycle is the winner, I like it but it's miles behind all the other trance songs of that era especially Gladiator which is 100x better.

Wow if this had been one of Gezza’s rates I’d have probably been top of the leaderboard - voted for 9 of the Top 10 (all but 8th which is also a great song) and my other vote came 12th!

Would have slightly preferred Numb / Encore to win as I think it’s possibly my favourite mash-up track ever; just pure magic. But really pleased for Motorcycle too which is one I loved at the time and still sounds great.

Decent results again, though I only voted for 4 of the top 15, with the other 6 of mine ending up mid-table (big vote split on the Scissor Sisters). The songs which finished top and bottom just missed my votes - poor Zutons on zero!
