Biography

When Austin Post uploaded “White Iverson” to social media in early 2015, he was 19, scrounging for ramen and sleeping in a friend’s closet. Plenty has changed, but Post’s appeal is more or less the same. No matter how Platinum the records go, he still has the air of an ordinary guy, a Crocs-and-Bud Light kid from the suburbs who stumbled backward into fame just by strumming what was in his heart. Post didn’t just look beyond genre, he broke it down, mixing the dark grandeur of trap with the anthemic release of classic rock and country. His signature tracks—“rockstar”, “Sunflower”, “Congratulations”—were both bleak and beautiful, spaced-out and mainstream, hip-hop but not quite. The bass boomed, the melodies soared, and there was Post in the middle, rap-singing his woes like a lonely prince self-exiled in the castle. At live shows, there were no dancers, no pyrotechnics, just Post, in a baggy football jersey with a cigarette in his hand, bringing 60,000 people into his bedroom: The pop star as moody teen.

Born in 1995 in Syracuse, New York, and raised in the suburbs of Dallas, Post grew up on a mix of country, classic rock and rap: In one well-circulated anecdote, young Post would get called into the living room to entertain Dad and friends with the dance to Terror Squad’s “Lean Back”. He turned a love for the video game Guitar Hero into a love of actual guitar, playing in a metal band during high school while also starting to explore hip-hop. “White Iverson” led to Post’s 2016 debut, Stoney; beerbongs & bentleys burrowed further into Post’s luxurious, messy melancholy, while 2019’s Hollywood’s Bleeding found him buttoning up and moving closer to the conventions of mainstream pop, all while retaining his peculiar touch. - Apple Music

I've done a total 180 on this song, during release week I thought it was a weaker link on Post Malone's new album but its wormed its way into my affections now.
surprised this isn't higher, sounds like a big big hit...

Biography

In a 2019 interview with Apple Music, Harry Styles shared a memory from the early days of One Direction. They were in the studio in Sweden working on “What Makes You Beautiful”. First single, the rollercoaster train just starting to climb the track. Someone comes into the room and says there are a couple of girls outside. Why? the band asks. They’re looking for you guys. For One Direction. “And we’re all just like, ‘But we’re in Sweden!’”

Ah, the old, “who…us?” routine. Harry! Incorrigibly charming, dreamboat for starry-eyed youth the world over. And, as it turns out, a legitimate force in pop, the kind of artist who could bridge contemporary appeal with classic values in ways that felt fresh but familiar, universal.

Part of what had made One Direction so great was that they never shied away from the pleasures of boy-band pop, but never patronised their audiences or fell back on gimmicks, either: Never mind the no-dancing policy; they were writing songs, exploring music as something beyond the show. In his solo career, Styles (born 1994, in Redditch, England) has done much the same, combining soul (“Watermelon Sugar”), confessional soft rock (“Sign of the Times”) and psychedelia (“Sunflower, Vol. 6”) with a modern touch, summarising where pop has been while also pushing it forward. “I’m just trying to go through life being a little less worried about stuff,” he said. “Definitely with working. Because ultimately, it’ll be okay.” He had a busy five years there. But he’s got a lifetime ahead of him. - Apple Music

Gaining early support and co-sings from some of the biggest names in the game - Skrillex, RL Grime, Getter, Borgore, The Chainsmokers, Marshmello, and Jauz regularly championing Luude on the biggest stages in the world and that has opened the doors to thousands of new fans who are now dying to see this enigmatic young producer in the flesh. The past few months have seen Luude release singles which have received millions of hits across all platforms and critical acclaim from reputable media. The entirely independent Luude 2.0 remix project has been met with an equal amount of fanfare with thousands of new fans visiting the account every day. The online hype quickly spilled into the offline world with Luude embarking on a huge 27 date headline Australia / New Zealand tour - which include some of the biggest venues in the territory selling out months in advance. Mattafix

Though Mattafix's Marlon Roudette and Preetesh Hirji come from different backgrounds (Roudette grew up on the island of St. Vincent, where he studied the steel drums, while Hirji was born to Indian parents in London and was fascinated by the computer), as a band they play urban, poppy music that fits in perfectly on European radio. Calling themselves Mattafix, a derivative of the West Indian expression "matter fixed," the group released the single "Big City Life" in the summer of 2005, and the song, a mix of island cadence and clean production, was soon being played across Continental airwaves. - Apple Music

I think when we look back it'll be weird that Cooped Up was the highest peaking song from this Post Malone album.

Having heard this just before the chart and again now, it's quickly starting to grow on me! Down Under felt more like a novelty hit (and the joke ended way before it left the chart) but this one's an actual tune.

Quite like both Hot In It and I Like You but not mad on either.

Big City Life :music: - really like what he’s done with this and how the original song still shines through.
