"Honeycomb Child" Given the year she’s has in 2022, winning the Masked Singer and finally making a return visit to Neighbours for the finale episode, it’s only right to take a look at some of Natalie Imbruglia’s 2000s output. After leaving Neighbours behind in 1994, Natalie returned with a fresh image in 1997 and the hit single Torn leading her debut album Left Of The Middle. Though this was her most commercially successful period, the story didn’t end there. Counting Down The Days was Natalie’s 3rd studio album and it became her sole UK chart topper (no matter what Music Week may have said earlier this year) I’m April 2005. It contained the single Shiver, already a no.8 hit and an absolute day time radio favourite, which went in to become her biggest selling single of the decade. Title track Counting Down The Days followed but peaked outside of the top 20 and no further singles were released which is sort of what happened back then. It’s a great album. I’ve always been tempted with Natalie Imbruglia but never gone there but I’m glad I did today. Natalie seems very emotional on this record, particulate shown in some of my personal highlights like I Won’t Be Lost and Slow Down. Satisfied, Perfectly and On The Run also stuck with me quite a bit. It wasn’t too heavy and is quite a nice gentle listen without being boring or sickly. It would have been lovely to see more singles from the album. This certainly won’t be the last time I check out Ms Imbruglia. The singles: ZwAd_ag9Q0E 30RGX_A9drs
August 11, 20224 yr This is such a great album and my fave of Natalie's The two singles are awesome (both reached #1 on my personal chart and Counting Down The Days was #1 for 7 weeks) So many of the album tracks are just nice listens. So glad it was a #1 album for her. Makes it even more odd though that the follow up (excluding Greatest Hits) didnt get a proper release in the UK
August 16, 20224 yr Very much agreed, great song. What a waste that it wasn't the third single. When You're Sleeping was beautiful too - this was such a strong album. I also enjoyed her cover of Pineapple Head from this era, which was a b-side on the Shiver single. Shiver is my absolute favourite single of Natalie's, such a good track that deserved a higher peak than No.8. With its airplay and reception I'd expected it to get to about No.3/4. It had quite a decent chart run though, iirc part way through its run downloads started to count towards chart sales and it was doing very well on iTunes etc, which helped it to hold up. The same reason helped Stereophonics' Dakota and Jem's They to stabilise rather than continue quick falls. Edited August 16, 20224 yr by gooddelta
