Not Top 20 unfortunately.

Interesting that a couple of months after Darude became the first Finnish act, they were followed by Bomfunk MCs

Isn’t Iyaz from the US Virgin Islands?

Also would argue Yugoslavia doesn’t really count

So, is Dougy Mandagi of Temper Trap counted as an Australian and not an Indonesian?

Nope, definitely the British Virgin Islands.

This list is being very generous with the definition of 'nationality' really (not least by splitting the UK into its 4 constituent countries) but still an interesting read! Combining them back into the UK and removing overseas territories/other entities that aren't independent countries (Puerto Rico, Channel Islands, Gibraltar, Aruba, Montserrat, US Virgin Islands, Curaçao, Martinique, Anguilla, Guadeloupe, Hong Kong, British Virgin Islands, controversially Kosovo) but then adding Thailand slims it down to, if I counted correctly, 86 (or 87 depending on Kosovo) actual countries, although 2 of those are ones that no longer actually exist so not sure what the exact number would be when reallocating Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia.

edit: or 87/88 actually since Hong Kong was on the list but China isn't

Never had a top 20 hit from a Chinese national? That's strange.
Yeah Rita Ora was born in Kosovo- it just happened to be part of Yugoslavia at the time of her birth - so she got there before Regard
I guess the Isle of Man should be represented by the Bee Gees if British Crown Dependencies and Overseas Terrorises are being counted separately

Any chart acts born in the former East Germany out of interest?

Anyone born between 1918 and 1941 and between 1945 and 1992 in the seven states that made up Yugoslavia was definitely a citizen of that country at that time. Rita Ora may say, correctly, that she was born in Kosovo in 1990 but the United Nations said she was born in Yugoslavia.

Iyaz aka Keidran Jones was born in Tortola, the British Virgin Islands.

Yes! Indonesia it is: I am grateful for the corrections and additions.

You are correct to an extent in terms of their birth place. However, when both parents are born elsewhere, in this case Manchester, England, I have taken a subjective view. This happened a lot with U.S. servicemen in Germany and Brits born in India - Cliff Richard and Engelbert Humperdinck were clearly English...
